    Doom: Annihilation update

....or it could just be a cute reference. I'm leaning towards that. The name is too on point for it to have been a random, unintentional pick.

    Doom: Annihilation update

Point to note; while iD did distance themselves from the project, they never really attacked it either. I think it was fine of them to say that they have nothing to do with it, which they don't. Don't think that's the same as them treating the film makers badly per say...

    Doom: Annihilation update

I'm more of the thought that it looks....tragic. The low budget, the obvious "direct to TV/ DVD" pitfalls, all the signs of a bad Sco-Fi (oh, I'm sorry, ScyFi, god I hate that...) channel original... it's all true. And yet, there are so many little details in both trailers that only someone intimately familiar with Doom would pick up on, or think to put in the movie. It's not like the other adaptations where they merely look to be reaching for the easiest thing to put in. The fact that we're seeing nods to everything from Ultimate Doom, through Doom 64, to Doom 3 and 2016, says that at least someone in the team has been paying attention, and is trying. Just that they're hobbled by having jack shit to work with. No budget, probably some interference from on high, not to even mention being disavowed by the license holders (which frankly, should have happened to the original Doom movie, because that looked just as awful in many ways). (And yes, I am standing here saying that the original Doom movie looked as bad. I re-watched it on TV recently. It is terrible. I don't care what anyone here insists, it had no redeeming quality for, much less anything "Doom" about it. And I may be the only person to say this, but I thought the FPS segment was tacky and lame.) At this point, I have little doubt that this will be a better "Doom movie" than the last one, but that it will be a worse "Movie" in most regards. I still intend to give it a look, if for no other reason than curiosity. Again, it's just sad that it looks like it will be terrible despite it being obvious that someone was trying in their own way.

Another nod; I feel like his fire throw was reminiscent of the Doom 64 imps.

    Doom: Annihilation update

Didn't see this posted anywhere yet (if it has been, sorry!). This seems to have dropped day before. Get a better look at the imps in this one, plus what appears to be a scene in hell, possibly inspired by The Titans Realm , going by the lighting?

    The Titan

Thought Doom 2016 described the Icon of Sin as being a sort of parody-reward for the Betrayer? His son being turned into a super demon and all.

"Doom Hunter" was inspired by "Hell Tank" from Zentrix?

Going with the Sabaoth as well. Granted, Sabaoth is a tread tank and less mobile, but his overall silhouette/ form lines up more IMO. Conceptually it also lines up; what if the Doom Hunter's are all made from former marines in Doom Slayers original dimension, ala Sgt. Kelly?

    Good Movie Soundtracks

Adding to Sin City would be its sequel: A Dame to Kill For. That one had a pretty solid OST as well. Other good ones: Serenity The Social Network Hanna (the movie. Don't know about the new series) John Wick (original, sequel's OST was kind of so so compared to it, and I haven't seen chapter 3 yet) The Matrix Trilogy Blade Runner Also surprised no one has mentioned Star Wars, given how iconic its score is.

    Eternal possibly removes the pistol?

Have to say @Rifle Infantry, to each their own, but I really don't see what you do in Doom's original pistol. It was about as basic a pea-shooter as they get. I can't say it's tempo, ROF, sound or recoil anims ever left an impression of any sort, other than "Need a gun, I need a gun, I need a gun right now!" . Now, Quake 2's Blaster. THAT was a meaty pistol.

    Doom: Annihilation update

THIS. It's almost an impossibility that Doom: Annihilation is going to be great by any measure, and a high chance that will be terrible. With that said, there's something to be said about criticising stuff that honestly is troubling or was shown, rather than just inventing issues out of nothing. As for the box art, the first thing I personally thought of was this:

    Post your Doom 64 picture

Man, I love how simple and to the point that poster is! So many other titles have to spam the set with all kinds of blabber, chaos and what not. Here, it's just the imposing visage of DOOM. Nothing else needs be said.

    Heaven in Doom Eternal

Eh, I still don't see the lack of such as "sanitized" myself. The brute violence was more or less the same at the end of the day, with the only real difference being whether it was evil incarnate, or near-soulless aliens. Doom 2016 definitely leaned towards "Fantasy Hell", I'll give you that, though I'd argue that plenty of the originals did too. Barring the occasional inverted cross, it was for the most part a DnD dungeon romp with shotguns IMO. Or perhaps a closer analogy would be Diablo's Hell; very obviously Christian influenced in its design, but not going out of its way to make people who actually do have beliefs feel like they're becoming the butt of a long running gag. For that matter, I honestly don't feel like even the original Doom's were particularly vindictive either. Again, there wasn't a lot of direct Biblical stuff that I recall, other than Episode 4's names, and the aforementioned occasional cross. Heck, even the existence of Satan/ Lucifer himself is... not really clarified. Ever. Unless we're assuming the Icon of Sin was Lucifer? (This observation comes from a guy whose Hindu born/ raised primarily outside of the US, so it's entirely possible that I simply missed other direct shout outs).
  13. As far as we know, the microtransactions are: 1) Skins for multiplayer, pure cosmetic. 2) Planned single player DLC/ campaign expansions. Both of those fit into the catagory of either: A) Not necessary at all unless you decide it is. B) Actual content that could potentially be worth it, like old expansion packs. Not sure what the problem would be in either case. As I said, we used to buy expansions before anyhow. This is hardly Horse Armor DLC....

"He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels"

My take: The Night Sentinels were an order of Knights, not a Nation unto themselves. The "crown" of the Night Sentinels could have just been their grand master, or even simply a moniker to identify their best champion. I wasn't under the impression that the Night Sentinels, either way, were the lords of Argent D'Nur themselves. So I reckon the guy in the throne is either said lord, or possibly even the Betrayer.

    unpopular retro opinions

Couple more here: 1) StarCraft is seriously overrated. I resent how it's seen as the gold standard in RTS design, as I feel that other RTS titles have provided far more in-depth, tactics rewarding experiences (Age of Empires 2, Dawn of War, Ground Control...). 2) Diablo 2 is likewise overrated 3) Icewind Dale 1 and 2 were superior to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. 4) Neverwinter Nights 1 was dull. Neverwinter Nights 2 is good to this day.

    Eternal possibly removes the pistol?

    A) Individual small batterries aren't much... but several billions worth of those batteries, of varying sizes, shapes, output, etc? Remember that ALL of civilization at this point is using some kind of Argent energy cell. The source was Mars, yes... but remember that the entire operation was based on Mars sending out "energy packets" via the projector using the Gauss cannon tech. This has also been going on for -quite- a while, so effectively, imagine every single bit of tech- from phones, to vehicles, to entire cities- using energy from Hell (Argent tech). The byproduct of which nothing is spoken. They claim it's completely clean, but whose to say that the byproduct is not strictly physical, but a reality rupturing force? Either way... as many argent cells coursing with Hell forged energy as there are people on the planet. Perhaps even more. Mars base has the source at one local point, which itself is half in this reality, and half in the other. Earth is fully saturated. 2) I didn't say Earth has already been invaded. I said It's POSSIBLE that it's going on. Specifically: "we don't know how much time has passed. For all we know, just as Doom 2016 was taking place, Earth was already being invaded. " As for the demons traveling between planets; again, it's possible that they don't need ships, considering they are warping in all over the place.

    Eternal possibly removes the pistol?

The well, yes... but Argent energy channeling devices have been seeded all over the Earth for possibly more than a century now. That's direct energy from Hell itself, which essentially translates into hell-damned souls at the end of the day. Shoving enough of that into a concentrated mass could possibly be tearing at reality for all we know. That's not even counting all the -active- cults specifically trying to work towards inviting Hell. UAC is the most known cult, but it's entirely possible that they are only one of many. And further more; we don't know how much time has passed. For all we know, just as Doom 2016 was taking place, Earth was already being invaded.

Wouldn't that be Co-op though? I always thought his presence on the cover was meant to convey it's existence.

Doom Eternal is the Biblical Apocalypse

Thinking about it some more... I don't think Doom Eternal is going to suggest that Hell is subservient (or at least, willingly subservient) to Heaven. Likewise, I doubt that 'Heaven', such as it is here, will turn out to be deliberately evil so much as "They mean well, but man, they're led by a bag of dicks" (Khan Mayker). Also worth noting about the whole "Biblical Hell and Heaven" thing; Hell is not the Biblical Hell. Not exactly in any case... Why do I say that? Well, think of all the things we hear about in Doom 2016. Unless I'm mistaken, Satan/ Lucifer himself isn't exactly referenced. There is some stuff about the various Dark Lords who rule Hell in each cycle, but not a lot of mention of -The- Devil himself. Conceptually, I think the connection between Biblical Hell and Doom Hell is merely that it's a realm of eternal punishment/ evil, but that's about it. That or it's just a hodgepodge of every kind of underworld you've ever heard of.

    Angel name revealed.

Well, "Khan" is both a last name and a title in a lot of eastern/ middle eastern cultures. As a title it designates a leader/ ruler. In this case, it could just be a moniker identifying this glowing pigeon here as the leader of the angelic forces we'll run into? EDIT: Though, if it was the ruler, the correct way to identify him would be "Mayker Khan". With the way it's written here, it could suggest that he's the King-Maker, aka the one sent to crown some new king... maybe?
