Whats the best Heretic/Hexen-based DOOM wad?

This is pretty much what you're looking for and combined with this texture pack you can pretty much disguise any doom map that uses vanilla textures into something that looks and plays like Heretic, just not without its quirks and stuff.

    GLESZDoom - GZDoom for potatoes

Yeah, different actors for different parts of the body. Even the damn gibs are treated as actors. Decorations are actors too. And, if you enable the shootable rocket ammo, they'll be treated as actors too. I think it can be fixed if the engine has limited rendering distance for actors.

    GLESZDoom - GZDoom for potatoes

I tried this with "Total Chaos:DC Retro Edition" and I got a significant FPS boost. On GZDooM 4.5 Vulkan (running on Native Linux) it runs on 5-35 fps while on GLESZDooM (running on Wine) runs on 15 to even 60 fps. This definitely helps run the more graphical demanding mods than the normal ones.

    GLESZDoom - GZDoom for potatoes

Well SgtMark is working on his own game so it might take a while before the next update. Vulkan is just better so I wont be using this engine for a while.

    GLESZDoom - GZDoom for potatoes

Yeah, BD is famous for its spaghetti code that is a nightmare for other modders to work with and PB is still in development. Anyway, I tried this with the Lithium (mod) with NOVA (mappack) and I saw some improvements with the FPS, but not much. It's better in most cases but if there's a lot of entities in one area it performs worse. This is being compared to GZDooM 4.5 Stable with Vulkan. My Specs: CPU: Info: Dual Core model: Intel Celeron N3050 bits: 64 type: MCP L2 cache: 1024 KiB Speed: 1033 MHz min/max: 480/2160 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1033 2: 763 Graphics: Device-1: Intel Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor x5-E8000/J3xxx/N3xxx Integrated Graphics driver: i915 v: kernel Device-2: Microdia Integrated Webcam type: USB driver: uvcvideo Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.10 driver: loaded: intel unloaded: modesetting resolution: 1366x768~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 400 (BSW) v: 4.6 Mesa 20.3.4 Yes, I use Linux so I use Wine.

    Wad with 3 Maps!

Please make this a megawad. The level of detail and the difficulty (In UV) are just right. 3 Cacodemons in the first level without an SSG is a bold move but a welcome one. The encounters can be cheesed with infighting and there's quite a lack of closet traps. Ammunition are very abundant the and the secrets aren't that hard to find. I liked the use of computers as the buttons instead of the usual switches. The open urban areas are my favourite as it portrays a city that has been invaded very well. Overall an easy wad. I'm patiently waiting for the megawad. Here's some screenshot of my favourite areas.
  8. I actually have that on my autoload as I can't be bothered to quicksave or to repeat a whole level just because I fell in a pit. It isn't that different from quicksaving though, it just Automates it.
  9. Have you tried AutoAutoSave? It's an addon that automates your autosave. Here's the link.
  10. I always bind the use key (Open doors) in my "F" key even if it's already bound to the "E" key.

Crimson Temple, my first Doom map - again!

The best map that I've played for a long time. The atmosphere is great, the architecture is great, and the battles are great. Finding secrets has always been my favourite thing to do so when I opened the automap and I saw that there were 14 secrets, I instantly got a huge grin. The battles aren't easy nor tough, It doesn't feel unfair because of the abundant ammunition nor does it feel like a walk in the park. The places that the battles take place, however, is a masterpiece. The scale of the arenas are insane, considering that they're inside a temple. Even though I only found 11 out of the 14 secrets, I still enjoyed finding them. They are surprisingly not that hard to find, but the size of the map might discourage some people to find all of them. Overall a 10/10. I don't know why the secret exit has a rad suit though. He's just standing there, menacingly. The whole automap when I finished the map. A graphical glitch.

Best performance settings in gzdoom and lzdoom?

Switching to vulkan really helped my "Intel Celeron 1.6 ghz 4gb ram" piece of shit laptop run gzdoom. It even performs better than lzdoom. I'm running on linux though so that might be the case.
  13. A simple mod that perfectly executes what it sets out to do. It may make your playthrough much easier than playing with the vanilla weapons but due to the ammo's scarcity it still feels fun and engaging. Doesn't add much nor take something out of the experience. 10/10 mod makes me happy that lost souls can be killed by a fart.

Do you consider mouselook as a cheat?

And the biggest problem of freelook (and the reason why I didn't like the ending of DooM 2 on my first playthrough) is that the Icon of Sin becomes easier. I hope that someone would fix this (Like what Lithium does when it detects an IOS).

Do you consider mouselook as a cheat?

    Yeah that's one thing too.
