  1. @Austinado Thanks for playing For The Love Of DOOM! The final map is (a bit) more interesting when pistol-started because you have to find the heavier weapons first. Being a tribute to DOOM 1, after all the slaying it ends with a much quieter, short boss map. But I can see why you would rather have another full length map to enjoy.
  2. @HAK3180 Thanks for playing For The Love Of DOOM! It's great watching you gun through it and I appreciate all the comments. While it's true that the lighting is on the bright side, the game looks unusually bright in gzDoom's default settings. Personally I use software sector lighting and no texture filtering. It makes the lighting look so much nicer. I never realized that it could look so different to others. I should go and fix that one day. You got to E1M4. You will leave tech bases behind, soon ;)
  3. Happy holidays! OK, here is a large map for DOOM2. It took most of 2019 to make ... anyway here it is: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/v-z/war01 The outline of the map is supposed to be Antarctica, where demons started their invasion in Hell on Earth. You start off in a small base, venture outside and battle through fortresses, caves, and arenas. I use gzDoom, haven't tested other ports so your mileage may vary. The blue key area can entirely be skipped, but you don't want to skip anything eh? Go and get 100% kills. The secret areas are probably the best, so do try and find them. Screenshots:
  4. Please play For The Love Of DOOM (a doom1 episode), at least map E1M6: Theatre of War https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/Ports/d-f/ftl_doom or if you want a large map, please try Demon War MAP01 (for doom2) https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/v-z/war01 (it's new)

    For The Love Of DOOM

@Revved you are right. I never noticed because gzdoom does open the sector, even without tag.

Thanks all, especially @Suitepee for streaming and linking the video. It's been a while but I watched the stream just now, it was pretty exciting watching you play! It's not a very dark wad, but I do think it looks brighter on stream (?) or maybe my gzdoom is darker. There was an update that fixes the door in the very first level. There is a lot of ammo (and health), but All maps were made with pistol start in mind (even the final map). Also thanks for showing the secret level, there's a couple more secrets around that will take you briefly to hell. I hope you (and everyone else, of course!) want to play again some time.

If you like this wad, be sure to get the April 13th update. It's very minor, but I think the very first release had an issue in E1M1 where you could not go back to the blue door without finding the yellow key. In E1M1 the yellow door area is supposed to be optional by design (still most fun if you do go there, of course). And I fixed some exit door textures. There are plenty of monsters to kill, I like flash-flood style fights still without going all out slaughter wad, challenging but not insanely difficult. DOOM 1 never gets difficult so I just kept adding monsters :) Knee Deep also has these big fights, and Romero does it again in e1m8b and e1m4b. I tried copying that style of fights. (Another favorite is No Rest For The Living, which throws heaps of monsters at you, but it's DOOM 2)
  10. Peepz, Last week I dropped an episode: For The Love Of DOOM. It's 9 levels of fun for DOOM 1 and I hope you will enjoy playing it, at least until SIGIL drops :D Being a huge fan of the original (1993!!) it starts out with tech bases and you make your way into more hellish surroundings. You may find some secrets transporting you briefly into hell early on and there is a secret level as well. Gameplay-wise ultra-violence is recommended (this is no bullshit slaughter wad, I reckon hardcore doomers may find it on the easy side, even though there are some pretty big fights included). Only the original assets are used, making this a small download. Personally I play with GZDoom and put on the music from IDKFAv2.wad. My first wad ever, but it was made for the love of DOOM. Some screens to tease (although stills don't do the game justice ...) I hope you like it!
