    Wow, everything I'm experimenting with is getting pulled. I'll see what I can do to reupload, there's a lighter option that loads faster and is less pronounced that I got off of Doomworld. Search for PBR materials, those look quite nice in the mod compilation I am currently experimenting with.

    Hello fellow Doomers! I was just wondering if there is anyone like myself that almost exclusively plays Doom through Delta Touch on Android? My goal is to get the Delta Touch Wiki updated as well as pool user experiences for any tips and tricks with the different source ports included in the app. And I want to keep it very user friendly, this app is a great way to introduce newcomers to the world of Doom modding, without overwhelming them with different UI's and stuff. I would also like to get a spot where we can share our settings to get better performance on a per mod/wad basis. Took way to long for me to realize that I should try every version of gzdoom before I give up on that wad because of a low framerate. (Thanks to an ancient unrelated zdoom forum post! :P) I currently have 3 devices that run Delta, a pixel 2, Galaxy S7 and Acer r11 chromebook. I just wanted to reach out to other Android only Doomers.

    I'd love to get a Doomworld Community Play Date together. Classic Doom would only make it easier for cross platform play. I'd find something weird to play on, like an Amazon Fire Stick gen 1. We'd have to find out the best source port to use based on what's available for each different OS.
  4. I have an older Acer R11 Chromebook that has Google Play app capabilities. If yours has access to Google Play download Delta Touch, it's $2.50 US. If you can't pay there's always Freedoom which has an app that's free and supports the retail maps, but has limitations. If your Chromebook doesn't have a touchscreen you will be stuck with keyboard controls, so a controller is a worthwhile investment, I use a moga pro power. Most older Chromebooks with Android app support are limited by the version of Android on it. If you have a newer Chromebook with Android 8.0 or above Delta Touch supports the mouse or touchpad for gameplay. I am primarily a Google OS user for everything so the only time I needed to break out my old laptop was to do the initial install and grab the iwads. Currently there is basic support for Linux on chromebooks, I think sound was just implemented in stable, and Linux would only have access to your processor and not the built in gpu, which is what makes GZDoom worthwhile as a sourceport. Since Delta Touch is an Android app there's one more way to get it that I've only experimented with. If you or your friends and family have an old PC, you could also download Android x86. It's lightweight enough that it seems snappy even on old machines, has excellent support, and is similar to your Chromebook while possibly having access to a better processor and more ram. All that being said, Delta Touch not only gives you GZDoom versions 1.9, 3.2, 3.7, and now 4.0. It also brings Zandronum 3.0, a network multiplayer fork of GZDoom that runs most mods and has a multiplayer server browser. It has Chocolate Doom, which stays true to the original Doom, with all of it's wonderful nostalgic charm. It has Doom Retro, which updates chocolate Doom for high res support and other options while keeping it in a simple package. And finally PRBoom +, the speed runners sourceport with so many features and tweaks all while staying true to the original feel of Doom. All from an app that can run on any Android device, it's quite impressive.

    Have been playing around some more and wanted to post another vid of some gameplay that shows a little more of the graphics features of GZDoom on Delta Touch. I have a pixel 2 with snapdragon 835, I'd love to see what the 855 can do. No sound on the vid I apologize.
  6. Delta Touch for Android is the best option if you have an Android smartphone. If your Android is version 8 or above you can even play with mouse and keyboard. Beloko just released an update bringing zandronum 3.0 as well as the newest version of GZDoom. I have a Pixel 2 and with the new update it opens up so many possibilities. Even older phones are still pretty capable. Good luck and happy Dooming!

    My work is nothing compared to yours Beloko, I cannot praise your efforts enough, you single-handedly rekindled my love for classic FPS just when I was becoming jaded with modern gaming. I found my old iwads (even an un-updated doom wad with the wolf3d easter egg and red cross health), purchased the whole classic quake collection for Quad, even heard you worked on Xash3d for the controls, so I dug out Half Life as well. It's been over 10 years since I've purchased an actual PC, my laptop was a hand me down and stuck on OpenGL 2.1. You've given me a new way to enjoy something I love, I also owe it to you to master your greatest asset to all your apps the Controls! These set the standard for all others to emulate, I have not found one single FPS that has controls anywhere near as accurate as yours. If there is any way to license your controls to other Devs you will be swimming in money. Just know that I will never forget what you've given me, I got my Doom back, and it's better than ever! Oh and BTW, here's the error message when I run Doom remake 4 with modern Dev, runs without the PBR textures on Legacy, but has the slower framerate like the plastic textures video. It's like it's processing the PBR textures but not displaying them.

    I'll take a look, right now I'm using AZ recorder, I'll see if that shows my phones performance more accurately. It was only the Plastic Shaders and GLe1m1.wad that I found on Moddb, I loaded it earlier with Project Brutality 3.0 and it seemed to run at the same speed, but didn't get much time to test.

    Wow, I just downloaded DR4 when Delta Updated. Zenimax is on shaky ground at best in regard to DR4 being infringing. If he really wants to make them mad he can just say "OK Zeni, I'll remove all the Doom Reboot stuff like you asked" and since his mod is called Doom Remake 4 he does nothing, plus they have to prove damages.

    high 20's average on GLe1m1, it does drop to single digits sometimes and I'm still tweaking the settings, but that's with Bloom, lens distortion, and low ambient occlusion on. I have a few mods and total conversions I want to try running and will make a note of any tweaks I did to get it running. Finally slowed down at work so I can use my Chromebook to search for all the wads I'm going to test, just now getting a list of wads/mods to upload to drive. The main mods I want to try are the ones my laptop hasn't a prayer of running, like Doom Slayer Chronicles, Doom Remake 4 or anything with those sexy rendering techniques. It's strange, I don't even want to play the game I just want to see what I can get to run!

    I am having an absolute blast with the new update, I've been focusing my efforts on the new version of GZDoom and what it now brings to the table for mobile Dooming! I've looked into Wads and Addons that would push the limits of the app and my devices, so far I'm very impressed. I have made another video, this time with an experimental e1m1 with light sources that'll work with PBR. The framerate on my phone was much better than seen in the video, must have been an encoding issue, also there is no sound since it wants to record from the microphone and work was loud.

    From my understanding Vulkan code on desktop is the same as mobile. I may be wrong because I used to read about it when it was new. It is much more efficient than opengl in most cases, and helps to do more with less. On a side note I did have a few mods crash with error messages. I didn't get a chance to screen shot it, but when turning on FSAA it errors out and crashes. I also tried Doom Remake 4 with the update. Modern Dev gives me a wall of errors ending in no code being generated. Using Legacy Dev loads the mod but without texture upgrades. I'm also experimenting with how my devices handle PBR materials and high end graphics mods. I'm loving the update so far, just hating my busy schedule. Thought I'd post a pic of my Galaxy S7 setup I made. It charges through a wireless charging pad behind the phone and uses USB OTG and a powered hub to add 3 additional USB 3.0 ports around back. Just hook up my cheap kb/m and I got a micro computer.

    Got a Snapdragon 835 in my main device and and a Snapdragon 820 in my backup. Also have an Acer R11 chromebook that has an Intel N3150, I think it does opengl 3.2, no vulkan though. I played around for only about a half hour and only on my main device. Just one question though, is vulkan supported through the app, I tried running Hurt with both opengl and vulkan but didn't see much difference, neither crashed though, which is nice.

    Today is a great day! Just got a notification that Delta Touch got a new update! I haven't tried anything yet but I am so excited to try all the new features. I've been downloading wads in preparation for this and will try to put a few first impressions together.

    Thanks for the link, I'll look into that dock, even if it doesn't work I have another upgrade in October, it'll probably work with my next phone. Android Pie's successor is supposed to support a desktop mode, that'll be amazing. I actually built a wierd rig for my old s7 so I could charge as well as use multiple USB devices, but without rooting, I can't do much. I left it at work but I'll have to snap a pic. I was curious about those maps you mentioned Valiant and Sunlust. I got them and both they ran really well with no slowdown with basic and smooth Doom, didn't try any other mods yet. I've been playing order of the Odonata and Hurt in different configurations, but still get frequent drops in fps. I even tried that Doom Remake 4 with models and such and that did everything except pbr materials at a playable framerate.

    I do have USB C in my Pixel 2, but it has no HDMI or MHL compatibility. I can't even stream to miracast, only Chromecast. The pixel 2 was great for updates and stock Android but horrible if I wanted to make it into a micro portable Android PC. My old phone, a Galaxy S7, which I still have, also has no HDMI or MHL compatibility. This feature was present in the previous s6 as well as the following s8! I have the worst luck regarding my phone decisions. I also have a moga pro, but it's very cumbersome to carry around, and I didn't use it for much. Tried touch controls on a few popular Android games and most seemed lacking something, either responsiveness, or fine tuning. D touch and Delta Touch always had great responsiveness, it was harder to circle strafe but you could do it with practice. With the addition of gyro functionality it became something more, so much closer to full mouse control. Now I can respond faster than with any controller, my gyro is a bit over 1:1 so if I overshoot with the stick I can adjust back, it's so intuitive. I have 20 years of Doom to catch up on and no PC to do so, I commend Beloko for giving someone like me a way to do so, all from my smartphone.

    I figured it out! Precision Shoot slows the speed of your mouse when firing a weapon. Most noticeably the chaingun. I didn't notice a big difference until yesterday, I use gyro so much that it's effect is lessened. Try it out by moving the right virtual stick, then try again while firing. I'll have to practice some more with it, I'm making it a point to master the controls for Delta Touch.

    Is there a way to play classical original doom games on android phones?

    Doom 1 and 2 aren't available on the app store as stand alone games. The apps that were linked above will only allow you to play Doom 1 and 2 if you own the PC version. If you have access to a desktop or laptop you can purchase the games in their original format, install them normally, find the files that hold just the game data (these are called iwads) and copy those to your phone. It sounds convoluted but this is the most legitimate way of getting Doom on your Android device. I would avoid any app that says it is the full game. Good luck in finding your wads and happy Dooming!

    Definitely get Delta Touch, it has multiple source ports so you can run most everything. It's very stable, updates are frequent, the UI has improved dramatically and the touch controls should be licensed to other developers, they're that good. I have this app on most of my Android devices, and it runs great on all of them with a bit of tweaking, even my Chromebook.

    It took a ton of work to get it just right, but it works so well I don't bother connecting my controller anymore. I have even used Delta Touch to play multiplayer with others, I'll set them up on my old laptop to with a kb/m and I'll just use my phone. Every once in a while I'll make a mistake and hit the wrong button, in that vid it was that errant grenade throw. I've Been thinking of a map/add-on combo that'll test what Beloko's controls can really do. Read about the Sunder map pack and I might give that a go to test myself. Any recommendations from the community would be appreciated. Also if anyone else uses Delta Touch exclusively and want to trade performance tips I'd love to discuss. I think the app is amazing! My laptop is very old and no longer has access to updated drivers and is stuck on opengl 2.1, my phone can handle the effects better than my laptop, it just bogs down when the level is very large, or with sophisticated geometry. Just hope Emile can get gles3 or vulkan working soon, I want to push my devices and see what they can do.

    First attempt to make a recording of gameplay. Upload quality is pretty bad, and it wasn't a serious run of the level. As with everything in life, I hope to improve upon my next attempt.

    Great choice with Delta Touch, it has amazing controls for mobile FPS's. I've been playing with both this and quad touch for a while now and have some pointers. First, use gyro functionality. Whether you use a docking controller or just touch controls it helps out by letting you fine tune your aim, I wish this would be implemented on more Android FPS's. It's something to get used to but will make it easier to aim, move and fire at the same time. Second, use a small amount of auto aim. GZDoom allows for auto aim tweaking depending on playstyle. I like mouselook, but on mobile it gets difficult because of screen size and your fingers being in the way. I turn on monsters only and set auto aim near the left side of the slider bar, about 3 key taps is enough for me. With a crosshair (I use a circle) it should only auto aim in a small area around the crosshair, making it easier to hit your target, but not as much as vanilla's auto aim. Third, get familiar with the control settings and adjustments. If you run mods you'll definitely want to find a good layout for controls that'll work for most if not all of your add-ons. I'll have to post some screenshots of my layout for reference, and maybe some video of game play so you can see how it handles. I've been long out of the Doom scene and have only recently rediscovered my absolute love for this game and finally decided to quit sitting on the sidelines and participate in the greater Doom community. Edit: I have uploaded a screenshot of my control layout, I've moved things around to make it more comfortable for extended play so yours may be different. I'll split the description by sides of the screen so you have an idea of why I have it set up that way. Left side of screen at the top is the usual map and back/esc button, next to it is the additional buttons toggle, i use this so the screen isn't as cluttered when I just want to play vanilla or a lightweight mod. Inventory is up there as well, but I haven't gotten to deep into wads that use it, so it's just out of the way for heretic/hexen/modded play. The red crosshair icon above the left control stick is my aim down sights button, I keep this redundant with the alt fire button so I can aim down sights no matter what the opposite finger is doing, since most mods have this I learned that one button wasn't enough. The blue icon underneath is for dual wielding in mods mostly, it's just out of the way enough for my left finger to not accidentally touch it when in heated combat. Right of the gear at the top is a button for mods that have flashlights mostly, don't need to have quick access and can be rebound if the mod doesn't use flashlights. Under save and load is months and months of tweaking to get it right, here's a quick description. Top Green Icon - Grenade if the mod supports it Red Icon touching the fire button - Reload Green Lower button - Used for any quick attacks that the mod supports (like Brutal Doom's kick) Alt Fire - As I said earlier this is also mapped to the red crosshair on the opposite side. That's about it for my control scheme, this makes it easier to do many of the same things you can do with the controller, but shrank down to be used by two fingers. I'm getting really into this! My poor wife has been forced to deal with my Doom obsession and it has been very therapeutic to type this to an audience that just wants more Doom in our lives! I'm going to definitely post more.
