  1. So I've been having a blast with Quake multiplay since the latest update, but kind of struggling with something that seems to be getting worse with age. I really noticed it playing stuff like Quake Champions and DOOM 2016/Eternals multiplay modes (and it even occurs during stressful or high intensity ares of singleplayer). Aside from my eyesight getting worse as the years go by, it seems my nerves and muscles are also going haywire these days... especially in my hands. While i use to love playing competitively and for thrill over the past few decades of FPS, this tremor or anxiety-induce shaking in my hands under stress or excitement is really ruining one of my favorite past times. I'll do fine for a few moments early on, but as it progresses or things start getting heated up in-game, my hands and other muscles start "spasming" or twitching/shaking, messing up my control and aim. I'm still able to do "OK" in most matches and infrequently come out on top, but just kinda bummed that maybe it just only gets worse. If I were to describe it, it would be the same effect as someone who is way, way over-caffeinated or hopped up on energy drinks to a dangerous amount. I don't drink coffee or energy drinks, I do on occasion every few days drink some coke (no more than a can at a time, and very infrequently). I've always chalked it up as part of a life-long anxiety & panic disorder that I've suffered from, though with anti-anxiety meds i take these days, I'm not so sure. While the anxiety/panic and racing heart beats have been under control with the meds as of recent, this trembling of my hands still occurs in gaming or stressful situations. Now I'm wondering if it's not just me or this is something everyone else is facing and has learned to control or manage it successfully. I drink a lot of water and eat pretty healthy (though i do use those nicotine pouches like Zyn and Velo, but not like excessive amounts), my blood pressure and pulse and stuff are always great. So why is this occurring primarily in intense gaming marathons? Are there options I can set in game that can help "null" or counteract these tremors, like smoothing or speed adjustments or something? Is there something everyone is doing who may encounter the same that I'm not? I've tried deep breathing and stretching arms and hands and stuff before matches. I'm 40 years old, but I still think I'm way too young to have to shelve one of my favorite past times over something so ridiculous. Any suggestions or anyone else experienced this before (or currently having issues with the same?). Any advice... I'm all ears.

If you're gonna welcome Christ into your life and your home... Why not your games, too?

    Quake Remastered

And here I am playing it via Steam Proton on Fedora Linux, so we know it'll work fine on the Steam Deck when it ships :) I was using a cheap wireless mouse on one of my Linux laptops while playing, so I was really sucking ass, but regardless.. it ran beautifully.

    Quake Remastered

The 90's was a time period of proving possibilities. This is common in much of 90's media as we progressed into a digital age. You'll notice extra attention to detail and design in many 90's things to overcome the hardware/software limitations of the time and make it as believable as possible. This was true of DOOM, Quake, but so many other games as well. But not limited to games. Look at the OG Jurassic Park... the cgi and dinosaurs just looked so much better than any of the sequels to follow. They really wanted to "wow!" us back then with industry firsts. This also goes into 90's TV (x-files still holds up against any other sci-fi shoe today) and music and audio, etc etc. It set many of the standards across media that we still follow today.

    Quake Remastered

If you're happy using source ports and mods and comfortable configuring and setting those up, nobody forcing the new rerelease down anyone's throat. Can even load up the OG Quake on Steam or GoG if you prefer. This is just another option. Some folks just want something simple with modern options and compatibility that they can quickly install on various systems. To us, yes, dark places is pretty straight forward to setup and configure, but the average gamer isn't gonna want to mess around with it or may not have the knowledge to do so. Some may have played Quake in the past and want a trip down memory lane, or some this may be their first time to see what all the fuss is about and this gets them up and going without all the extra steps (even if there's not many). Some of us who are diehard fans will still play the re-release because it's something new to try, and some will stick to the vanilla or sourceport flavors of Quake. Just another option is all it is. And it's a pretty solid option to replay a classic with nice extras and content.

Hoping they add a option to crank the music up a bit. I've got it at max of 10 and it's still whisper quiet :( That Reznor score must penetrate my inner ear like a anima!!

    Quake Remastered

Sounds like a lot of the same type of bugs encountered when they released the "revitalized" doom ports a couple years back. Sound, controls, options, etc. They actually corrected most (if not all) of those issues and continue to update and release new content for those ports. I'd expect the same treatment with this new Quake port here.

    Quake Remastered

Not to look to far into things, but I assume this remaster of Quake is to hype us up for a new Quake game in near future (wonder if a new Quake title will be announced next Quakecon and this just to hold us over?) I mean, that's just a educated (or uneducated) guess.... but my spidey senses are tingling!

    Quake Remastered

If you're running Linux, and have steam version, make sure to enable proton under steam settings, set it proton experimental, and also set the games settings to use proton experimental under play compatibility mode, too (under the games properties options in your library). It defaults to proton 3.7 despite what you have set in steam main settings, and won't run unless you set it to experimental. Running perfect and full frame rate for me on FC34 (though I am using kernel 5.14rc6). The OG Quake for steam has native Linux support, this update though... Gonna need to run it with proton on.

Doom Eternal: End of an era?

It's one of those games where a decade-long rest between each iteration keeps it fresh and fun. We don't need yearly release cycles for doom games until it's beaten to a bloody pulp and becomes same thing over and over. That's what kills so many game franchises these days. "Too much of a good thing"-sort of outcome. All fine with it taking a backseat for another decade for the next set of fresh minds to come and give it their touch of magic, as that's how it's been handled thus far and this approach has worked very well.

    Nobody likes Lost souls.

Well I do, damn it. It's never a better time than watching one get stunned and float away backwards across the map in a jaw-droppingly shocked expression all like "you... you hit me. how dare you."

    Romero reveals Sigil 2

I was being facetious. Don't shoot! *Raises hands* I don't think a little light-hearted humor at his giddyness and excitement to talk to Romero is going to hurt his feelings :) The sheer irony here is that I do suffer from debilitating anxiety and panic disorder, and if it wasnt for my daily dose of Xanax and Lexapro, I'd probably not even be able to make it out the front door... much less a interview.

    Romero reveals Sigil 2

Dunno who this bridgeburner dude is, but he needs to take a deep breath or a xanax or something. All that fidgeting and nervousness during the interview even made me a little antsy in my pantsy.

    Doom (1993) v1.2 for sale!?

about $425 dollars overpriced. If it had a good condition box, addendum, manual, shipping manifest.... it might warrant the $450. Probably still too much. Just the the floppies? $25 to $50 depending on who you ask. If even that.
  20. It's visual engine trickery could also be a possible form of 4D... https://researchblog.duke.edu/2017/04/26/visualizing-the-fourth-dimension/ And if you're modder, you are the 4th dimensional being to Doom Guys 3rd dimensional world...

Holy shit, it actually does say "To Do" Well, I think this is some sort of subliminal secret that we've uncovered here. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

    Which way is it???

Well if this was 1994 and I walked into a untidy game shop and noticed the box displaced on the shelf, then we must consider all positions as potentially accurate... Like say:

    iD please fix this mess

I mean there are literally so many ways to reach out to id software devs via social media, mail, tagging, etc to voice your issue encountered... I am just flabbergasted by OP's rant directed at everyone *but* those who can actually make said fixes. More so, I have never really had the opportunity in my life to use the word 'flabbergasted' and this was that opportune moment to do so. In that respect i say 'thank you' OP.
