  1. I had this idea for a Doom-themed forum game: challenging each other to make sector art drawings in DoomBuilder, of pretty much anything! The rules are simple, you try to make a drawing (made with sectors in DB, obviously) of what is described by the user above you, and along with a finished picture of said drawing you also set a new object/theme for the next user to draw. For a start, I'll go easy and choose something pretty simple. I challenge you to make a drawing of a pizza!
  2. That one's intentional and actually a very clever pun. In the box art, the second "Live" in the title is rendered backwards... And "live" backwards is... Well I think you figured it out already.
  3. That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the level name, but I guessed it was just a coincidence. Nice to see its really where the name came from! By the way, a little fun fact: The Doors also have an album titled Waiting For The Sun, and, funnily enough, their song of the same name is not on that album (its on Morrison Hotel instead).

    Thoughts on Starfield?

I'll be honest, I have zero interest in this game and I don't really care about it at all. However, there is this random guy that threw an huge tantrum over the smallest most innocuous detail ever in this game, and watching the entire Internet clown on him has been really funny and entertaining.

Did ponies use to be banned on doomworld?

Going to second what Zulk said: this is indeed the entire Internet in a nutshell. Sometimes its hard not to wish for some brain bleach the moment you get across shit like this...

    Youtuber pranks Quickbooks scammers

I love the anti-scammer sphere of YouTube, they're so fun to watch! I'll never forget the guy that went to a center and delivered a bunch of packages with cockroaches and mice:
  8. Personally, I have conflicting views. On one hand, I think its a pretty entertaining place. Lots of stuff and trivia to learn about, and if the writer of the page has a good sense of humor the articles themselves can also be very funny. But I'll be completely honest: I do also think it had a large negative impact in the world of media criticism on the internet, along with CinemaSins. Its supposed to be a silly website, there's no point in taking it so seriously like some do, as if it was the Bible of storytelling itself. I feel like it has reduced that art to something among the likeness of building blocks and checklists, taking all the nuance out of the picture. I don't really know how to express my thoughts properly, but I hope what I'm trying to say is still understandable enough.
  9. I've heard the sound effect for the IOS spawning the cubes nearly a dozen times by now in other media.
  10. Fighting games have interested me for a long time now. I find the idea very appealing, in theory they should be a great deal of fun, especially with friends. I've tried them out again and again, but every time I end up just not quite "getting" it. They just don't feel right or natural to me... Its hard to explain. When I played Doom or Mega Man for the first time I obviously struggled, but I don't ever remember being out of sync with the game. Is it because fighting games just naturally require a giant amount of effort before they get fun to play? Or is it just a "me" thing and they just aren't my thing? I just want to ask everybody, did you struggle like me trying to play those games too? And, if you're a regular player of this genre, how hard was it to learn how to enjoy it, and how should I approach them to get the same out of them? PS: I did fare better with Smash, but its so different from the "regular" kind of fighting games that I don't really think it matters.
  11. Oh, I remember that one! Very original and creative premise even in this day and age, more than 20 years after its release. You see, and I hope you don't take it the wrong way, but to many new players fighting games are a bit stale, in the sense nearly all of them have their mechanics originating in Street Fighter 2 (obviously each one has its nuances, but to newbies they are imperceptible). But games like BB (or that turn based TAS-like one I mentioned in a previous comment) bring a lot of freshness and innovation into the scene, and for attracting new blood I think they could be incredibly beneficial for the community at large.
  12. Yeah, I've heard SS is a good place to start for beginners because it focus more on spacing and execution. I guess its a good place to start.
  13. I'm very surprised: I've always had the idea that the fighting game community was extremely toxic and unfriendly. Well, guess I can't judge an entire group of people based on a few idiots from Reddit and YT. The training modes were indeed were I had the most fun playing those kinds of games. Just screwing around, trying to get a feel of the game and seeing if I could pull off any special moves, it was pretty entertaining. Still though, wouldn't having another person try and teach you the basics be the better option? There is only so much you can do in those modes when you're just starting out. It seems you get the most out of them when you are already quite experienced yourself. Dude, no freaking way... I once saw a comment on YT describing an hypothetical game that could be used to teach fighting game skills to newbies, and what they described was exactly like what you are talking about. Talk about predicting the future! About the game itself: it sounds very interesting, I might check it out later. Yeah, it indeed is the huge amount of options you have that screws with me. Like, take a look at Street Fighter. In that one there's six different buttons for attacking, and the attacks themselves also change if you're crouching or jumping. Add the specials on top of that and to me it just becomes too much to track. What attacks should I use in what situations? Even in games with fewer buttons I'm still left not knowing what to do. Smash is very different from traditional games because of its focus on platforming and knocking away opponents off stage, giving you much more freedom to move around as much as you want. Not to mention, the controls are simplified too. Sorry, but I can't say I've ever had much interest in hack 'n slash games myself.
  14. It was today's morning when I took knowledge of this on TV: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2023/aug/10/hawaii-fires-wildfires-lahaina-maui-death-toll-latest-updates . I was beyond horrified. I don't have a way with words and I could never in a satisfiable way translate my precise feelings, specially while speaking a second language. I'll try my best and just say this: a few years ago my country went through a similar tragedy that is felt deeply to this very day. Watching a similar event play out again brings back some awful memories. Over 30 deceased people... Such horrible waste of life... And knowing this year so far has been the hottest in recorded history, the lines that can be traced back to climate change can't be ignored, and that's the main thing I kind of want to talk about. Thanks to the greed of a few rich fucks, future's not looking so bright for planet Earth. However, many of those said rich assholes are already a bunch of old farts, and they know they'll be six feet under before the time the planet becomes a living inferno. Younger folk like me, however, will have this absolute nightmare as our inheritance from the previous generation, and that thought deeply depresses me. Its not something I think of everyday as I have several more personal and immediate problems to deal with daily, and this is only something that will happen in the near future. But looking at those news I couldn't help but think about it again. The fact its probably irreversible at this point and all we'll be able to do is just to try as hard as we can to hold on doesn't make it any better... I just wanted to ask other DW, do you share this feeling of hopelessness and sadness too? If so, how do you cope with it?
  15. Nobody lives forever, it was only inevitable for him to step down after so many years. The man has already done enough for millions of people around the world, and its good to see him get a well-deserved rest.

I was taking a look at the original "Elon Musk buys Twitter" thread, and I must say I had a good laugh at how shit the very first reply has aged:

    Who's your favorite villain?

As I've said it before in another thread, I've recently got into old Marvel comics, and I must say, their villain catalog is really freaking good! If I had to chose one though, there's only one option for me: I know, a bit of a boring and predictable choice, but come on, its DOCTOR FUCKING DOOM!!! Top tier character.
  19. Hey there, sorry I couldn't have said this earlier, but I was away on vacation and didn't bring my PC with me: welcome back! It's good to see DW's funniest user again :)

Not too long ago I saw two classic Luis Buñuel movies, Viridiana and Los Olvidados. Two essential watches from one of the masters of cinema!

      TheMagicMushroomMan

That's pretty cool, I'm not really familiar with Buñuel save for Tristana, which I thought was great when I watched it. Definitely sonething you need to be in the mood for though. I watched Balthazar, which was a better movie than I expected, not too long ago. That and some stuff by Ken Russell. I thought The Devils was awesome, incredible performance by Oliver Reed and beautiful cinematography. Movie is still dark as hell over half a century later, and the uncut edition (never been officially released) is very explicit. His other films I watched weren't as good. Women In Love just doesn't work for me, despite Oliver Reed. The Music Lovers is pretty good, but I can't find subtitles for the thing anywhere, and I can't make out a lot of the dialogue. Mahler is okay, a bit silly though. Gothic, quite frankly, kind of sucks. Savage Messiah is decent. Overall, only The Devils truly works for me, because the director's shock value fits the dark subject matter, and for the wonderful costume work, set design, cinematography, and lead performance. It also seems pretty true to the real events it's based on, with the artistic liberties mainly coming in the form of dream sequences.

    DSC's Thrash Metal Repository

Someone posted them in the other thread too!
  22. Not too long ago there was a thrash metal appreciation thread here, and if you go there and scroll down to see the posts you'll find a comment of mine stating my big surprise, because I had a very similar idea in mind myself! And today, I'll actually make said idea a reality: welcome to the DSC's official ultimate archive for badass thrash metal music! Unlike that other thread, which was simply asking for albums you liked, here I will link to every single great thrash album I know of. No Big Four, to give some focus to the more obscure stuff. I will also for now only list stuff from the golden age of thrash, 1984-1992 roughly speaking, but I might update it in the future with modern material too. If you want to see any album or band yourself, just ask! Here it goes: -Dark Angel (Darkness Descends, Leave Scars) -Death Angel (The Ultra-Violence) -Devastation (Idolatry) -Evildead (Annihilation Of Civilization) -Exodus (Bonded By Blood) -Forbidden (Forbidden Evil, Twisted Into Form) -Heathen (Breaking The Silence, Victims Of Deception) -Holy Terror (Terror And Submission, Mindwars) -Rigor Mortis (Rigor Mortis) -Sadus (Illusions, Swallowed In Black, Vision Of Misery) -Testament (The Legacy) -Vio-Lence (Eternal Nightmare) -Watchtower (Energetic Disassembly, Control And Resistance) -Demolition Hammer (Tortured Existence, Epidemic Of Violence) -Nuclear Assault (Game Over, Survive, Handle With Care) -Overkill (Feel The Fire, Taking Over, Under The Influence, The Years Of Decay, Horrorscope) -Toxik (World Circus, Think This) -Whiplash (Power And Pain) -Flotsam And Jetsam (Doomsday For The Deceiver, No Place For Disgrace) -Incubus (Beyond The Unknown) -Morbid Saint (Spectrum Of Death) -Sacred Reich (Ignorance) -Assorted Heap (The Experience Of Horror) -Deathrow (Raging Steel, Deception Ignored) -Destruction (Infernal Overkill, Eternal Devastation, Release From Agony) -Exumer (Possessed By Fire) -Holy Moses (The New Machine Of Liechtenstein) -Kreator (Endless Pain, Pleasure To Kill, Terrible Certainty, Extreme Aggression, Coma Of Souls) -Mekong Delta (Dances Of Death, Kaleidoscope) -Paradox (Heresy) -Protector (A Shedding Of Skin) -Sodom (Persecution Mania, Agent Orange) -Violent Force (Malevolent Assault Of Tomorrow) -Sepultura (Schizophrenia, Beneath The Remains, Arise) -Annihilator (Alice In Hell) -Obliveon (From This Day Forward) -Razor (Evil Invaders, Violent Restitution) -Sacrifice (Forward To Termination, Soldiers Of Misfortune) -Voivod (Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross, Nothingface) -Onslaught (The Force) -Sabbat (History Of A Time To Come, Dreamweaver) -Xentrix (Shattered Existence, For Whose Advantage?) -Artillery (Fear Of Tomorrow, Terror Squad, By Inheritance) -Coroner (RIP, Punishment For Decadence, No More Color, Mental Vortex) -Hexenhaus (The Edge Of Eternity) -Invocator (Excursion Demise) -Mortal Sin (Mayhemic Destruction) -Pestilence (Malleus Maleficarum) -Agressor (Neverending Destiny) -Solstice (Solstice) -Cyclone Temple (I Hate Therefore I Am) -Aggression (The Full Treatment) -Darkness (Death Squad) -Assassin (Upcoming Terror) -Acrophet (Corrupt Minds) -Revenant (Prophecies Of A Dying World) -Atrophy (Socialized Hate) -Chemical Breath (Fatal Exposure) -DRI (Dealing With It!, Crossover, 4 Of A Kind, Thrash Zone) Enjoy! :)

    Doom Sector Art Challenge

Reviving this challenge because it seems people liked it well enough. Lets just see if we can stick to the rules this time! Here's the cover of one of my favorite books: Now, I challenge the next person to draw the cover of the album Stained Class by Judas Priest!

Great job Whoosh! It truly shows how great your talent is, being able to release in such a short period of time and without years of experience, not one, but two whole megawads of high-quality and very polished work! I sense a bright future ahead for you in the community. And, who knows, maybe even a Cacoaward could be on its way...
