This right here is one of the oldest joke wads ever made, and its parodies of bad map design are still relevant to this day.

What's this? A city level that's better than any of Doom 2's city levels? This wad is great. Not only does it have an impressive amount of detail for 1995 (mostly thanks to the custom textures), but it's also really fun. The layout is a bit confusing at first and the secret soulsphere can be hard to find, but once you figure out where everything is, it becomes a blast to play.

One of my favorite wads. The action is fast and the maps are short, sweet, and to the point. The only exceptions are the slaughter maps at the end, but I enjoy those as well.

This right here is the quintessential babby's first Doom wad.

One of the all-time greats, as well as one of my favorite wads. Sure, the aesthetics are a bit antiquated in places, but it's still fast and action packed. The gameplay holds up well even when compared to modern wads. It also features awesome music. My favorite maps are MAP03, MAP14, MAP15, MAP23, and MAP24.

This is the most beautiful Doom map ever made. All of the most popular contemporary wads pale in comparison to this.
