    2021 Goals & Intentions

Nearing the end of October Ghost of Tsushima as well as Sekiro both had updates that easily got me distracted from mapping, after that I just kinda stopped mapping altogether. I want to get back into mapping but I recently changed from Windows to Linux and can't find a way to get Doom Builder to work (yet). Thankfully I have my ideas more organized and can hopefully finish the maps I planed to make a couple months ago.

    NaNoWADMo 2020 - The month-long mapping challenge!

Apologies for late posting. I didn't make any more maps other than the one that I posted earlier in October. I got busy about halfway through the month and didn't really do much after that. I'm going to continue working on my miniwad and hope to have it out before Christmas. Here is a very rough layout of my next map: An here is the map I scrapped. I pretty much gave up on it after a day or two, I'm pretty sure it was the layout that I didn't like. The map doesn't even have an exit but I wanted to post it anyway because I'm going to recycle the aesthetic and music for a later level. Community Chest 4 textures are needed. Proyect for megawad and request for advice/feedback

You could simply draw the words as floor sectors and then hide them in secret areas, looking at the automap would allow the player to read the words easily. Doom-1 did this in it's first level but with an author's name. As for the folder, it would be easiest to make zip files that are blocked by passwords. Simple, just upload it here and ask the community to play test.

    NaNoWADMo 2020 - The month-long mapping challenge!

So I decided to change my dispay name (formerly known as DragoKnot4200). I decided to make a tech base themed 5 level mini wad, but while working on the second map i wasn't liking how it turned out and decided to stop working on it. I'll post the unfinished map separately at the end of the month but for now I'm just gonna work on a different map. I wanted to get at least 2 maps done before posting anything but for now here is map 01, a very short entryway level. This wad uses the community chest 4 textures which have NOT been combined with the wad yet and can be downloaded here: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/cchest4 Tested in: GzDooM, PrBooM-plus My map: Entryway.zip

SHRINE - A Total Conversion Mod for Doom 2

I'll download and play once i get off work. Looks awsome! Always love lovecraftian stuff. Edit: got home just to realize that it doesnt release till saturday.
  9. I've only completed a few levels, but these are very good maps. I also really love the names as they fit the theme of the map pack very well. The secrets (at least in the first few levels) are very basic and obvious, but you made 30 maps within a month so I can understand; they also don't really hurt the overall quality of the map set at all. With a bit of polishing I think this WAD can become a classic.

    NaNoWADMo 2019 - The month-long mapping challenge (that's a wrap!)

Here are the maps that I have done, all made with a pistol start in mind. I don't really plan on making any major projects with these but I do plan on making more maps in the future. Here are the maps in order that I made them: Map01: The Cellar An underground style map where you pretty much just move from room to room killing groups of demons as you go. Gets pretty slaughtery about halfway through and the final room is pretty rough. Map02: SWAT This was a bit of a speedmap that I made in just a few hours. The scale is larger than I wanted so it doesnt go as "fast" as I initially wanted. Map03: Ritual A fully fledged slaughter map. I'm pretty proud of this one as it is definitely my favorite of the three. It's also the only one to feature (non-original) custom music (a midi version of Black Sabbath's Paranoid.) It shouldn't be too difficult as long as you keep moving and avoid the fireballs. EDIT: Forgot to mention that difficulty settings are not implemented into this map. Well...here you go: summaps.rar

    NaNoWADMo 2019 - The month-long mapping challenge (that's a wrap!)

I managed to complete three maps and create a layout for a 4th. Tomorrow I'll compile them all 3 into a single wad and upload them here.

    How Do I Start

Use Doombuilder for making maps. Slade is for adding custom music and other things.

What was the first custom wads you have played?

I'm pretty sure the first custom WAD I ever played was Scythe2. I remember being blown away at the design of the first few levels, especially compared to the vanilla game. I got to about map 13 or so then moved on to hell revealed but never finished it.

Is it to late to join? I've only started making maps recently and want to improve my skills. I think NaNoWADMo is a great opportunity to force myself to make a few maps so that I can get better at it. Because I'm new to making maps I'm going to try and make some smaller, fast paced maps similar to Scythe.
