  1. Last week Friday (26th of Nov.) I snagged a new PS2. I didn't really care that it was the new downsized version, I just wanted to get one. Long story short, it's Tuesday and controller port 1 doesn't read the joystick, yet it works just fine in port 2. Suffice it to say, I'm kind of mad that I have to ship it all the way to CA to have the system, the controller and the memory card (they wanted all peripherals) replaced. Are there any horror stories of these new PS2s being faulty in anyway? Someone I know said they're more prone to overheating, but that could be a rumor.

But yeah, I'm not too happy about this situation.

i see more PS2's than any console at work. so as far as how well made it is, not very. i would say the new ones are an improment. but if you had any games that needed the HD yoy are SOL.

i have never seen an xbox or game cube come in for service. however in my time there i have seen about 20 PS2 systems. ports being a common thing broken.

i have seen morons buy an Xbox or game cube thinking it could play games from the other systems. then they return it and bitch about it. duh....

  2. Has anyone else noticed the dirt cheap yams lately? At the Giant Eagles around here they're normally $1.49 a pound. Recently they went down to 50 cents per pound. I went home for Thanksgiving after that and found them for 39 cents per pound at Farmer Jacks. But they're back up to 79 cents per pound over here. Anyone seen them even cheaper over Thanksgiving season?

      Ralphis said:

They don't. They grow on trees for thanksgiving and your mom goes out and picks them all when you aren't looking

she does the same with our carrots.

never really took time to check out the local yam prices. however eggplant has dropped in price her. i dont really know what an eggplant is or even what it taste like.

anyone know what eggplant taste like? is it worth trying to eat?

also what about lamb? should i try eating lamb and eggplant?

i was more along the lines that someone just bought a hampster. which is hardly worth a blog.
"hey guys! guess what? i bought a hampster! now i have a use for all those fireworks!" thats the cue for the animals rights person to start bitching at me about jokeing to blow up a hampster.

  3. From this website, am I correct to assume that the most expensive one would be the best? If not, what would truely be the best?

Or would there be a better one from this website (under $200)? If there would be a good deal, I could go $50 higher, but only if I have reason.
I just don't have much knowledge on graphics cards (or anything on computer components for that matter).

Thanks for helping if you do so.

  4. This morning in my computer class, I was getting tired and bored. So I started looking for genesis emulators. Couldn't download it since there was no winzip on the comp. Now let me remind you that the computer is a whole logon thing and you have nothing on your desktop but a start menu, task bar, and blue screen for a desktop. You can't access anything on the comp except whats in the start menu. Lame, I know. Well seeing as how I've tried installing computer games before back in middle school and trying to download emulators then, they didn't work. These computers are better then the ones in my middle school however. So I take a trip to winzip.com and download it. To my surprise it worked, and is installed in the users drive under my name. Next I used winzip to download and open the genesis emulator, and extracted into my folder again. Now I have to re-download, goto File-->Open Archive *All files, and then browse my folder and double click Gens and run it when prompted. Soon enough I was playing Altered Beast in a window mode, and the kid next to me was like Hell yeah! I know what I'll be tomorrow in class **.

in highschool we had a class for A+. the internet was blocked, though not very good. when ever you tried to open IE it asked for a password. however if you opened any program and clicked the internet icon it bypassed what ever program the teacher was useing. Instant internet.
later we discovered her password. she was talking with the ROTC guy across the hall and told him the password was her first name. I over heard this and looked in the year book. so "alice" was the password. soon all the junk like that was disabed on those computers.

in a more comic event the former school PC admin was fired for childporn, or maybe regualar porn and the teachers wanted to scare us.

i liked how towards the end of the war we started working with some captured nazis to find suspected communists. then we let some of them go. I think part of it was to make it end and the other part was to show off to the russians, oh and don't forget that bit of revenge.

hell even conventional bombings were just as deadly. i think some 80,000 died in a firestorm in tokyo during allied bombings.

  6. This book pissed me off. Burning books because they are fiction, and couse dangerous thoughts? A girl that loves nature and asks why society does things a certain way is anti-social and should be killed or sent to a psychaitrist? what kind of crap is this? I swear to God that this never happens. but... 3 dimentional pornos (it's in the book) would be interesting...

( if you mention Michael moore or the Nazis I'll burn your copy of Id Anthology.)

WHat parts became true? Are books THAT bad because they challenged the new way of life? Will Overtype ever be eliminated from Microsoft Word?

  7. Well, it's (un)officially happened. In two weeks, I will be receiving a check for US$8500.

And that's only the beginning. This is the result of 6 months' dev time. Yeah, our LLC has been making $600 there, $1200 here... but this was our big project. We extended a single feature of our product for a client (essentially a limited license), which will fund our further development for the next 6 months.

So it's $8500 up front, another $8500 when we deliver in January, and a cut of each client they pick up using our software per year. All in all, this will probably net us 40k in the next few months.

With that in mind: I'm taking a personal vacation. All night tonight and into Sunday, I'm totally going to vegetate in front of my PC/PS2. I'm going to fire up Half-Life as soon as I'm done this post and play some Firearms, and maybe some TFC. Tomorrow, I may hook up my PS2 to play some Tony Hawk's Underground online.

Look for the name "Bucket" in the East Coast servers.

Everybody load up Steam and come to 209.67.61.233:27015!!

  8. Well took a bit of a break before christmas. So i went up to see my grand parents who i will not see agian for a while, next summer.

This place is really wierd. They claim the house is haunted. IF you know more about the area then you can kinda see why.

The area was home to native american tribes. It's rare, but sometime bones are found when homes are built. A walk in the field behind this house can turn up handfuls of arrow heads and other objects. The road outside of the home is a death trap, literaly. numerous deaths have occured infront of this house or land surrounding the house. Mainly due to people being drunk or stupid. Infact a rather creepy message has been scrawed onto a telephone pole in front of the house.

Needless to say this is NOT a house to stay up and play silent hill 2. I did that the other night, and it really freaked me out. mainly cause my grandfather walke dinto the room very quitly and a saw something moving in the window, his reflection/shadow.

    things that are wierd here.
foot steps, often from the basement or attic.
voices, but very rare. usally heard by children. once heard by adults during christmas.
moving objects, common. fucking ghost took my damn X-box controller! maybe it just wants to challenge me to a game of halo? no, shit just moves around. pictures have "flown" across the room. and in one case a toy riendeer was unpacked and turned on in the basement.
electornic devices behave oddly. batteris die early or devices randomly come on and shut off. so far computers not affected. However the area does have odd geological activity and there are 3 large radio/TV stations near by. those may also explain "voices"

Its creepy here, but peaceful. Nothing bad has ever happened to a family member here. Only to the careless drivers and drunks outside of the home.

    1. Sephiroth

      Sephiroth

well the ghost is said to be a young girl. but who knows. The place is kept up, not abandoned.

however a girl i dated had a home in a near by town. this town was baiscly abandoned in the 1950's. there was like 1,500 people liivng there. now there is less the 30. Many of the old homes are gone, but a few remain. The house and land they owned was surrounded by woods. It was going to be tore down and rebuilt.

the message is scrawled in white paint. and looks to have been made by a teenager.

"you are loved dan and james/jamie/jane? (the names is really blurred and pushed together). You may have died in twisted metal and fire, but we will.... for all enetity.... the blood you spilled cannot be forgotten.... love all your friends at FRH."

parts of it cant be read and its all bunched together. The pole was replaced after the accident. I also belive it was the accident where the man driving was decapitated(nearly) by debris.

strangly no one ever speaks about this stuff before 1983. It started the month after i was born. My grandfather would wake up to someone pulling on his toes and the voice of a girl. He would hear footsteps. then pictures began to move, they even claim a few flew across the room. object disapear and appear in odd places later on. I have lost toys and games this way, however how much of it is a joke or stupitity is not known.
voices may be linked the the transmission towers here.
computer speakers and telephones can produce fairly loud "voices" from radio waves. usally i get CB transmissions.
nothing violent or evil is siad to happen.

the so called ghost is said to be friendly and enjoys children. Activity died down when i was about 10, but would surge later on. I have heard the footsteps, yes the other night. However the voices are what i dont want to hear. also movemnt in the windows has also been reported. SO i dont even glance at the windows. I also close all doors.

the war might have lasted until 1947-1950 with a tradtional ground war.

  11. All of a sudden yesterday, I found the musculature of the left side of my face royally borked. I couldn't close my left eye without also closing my right, and I was unable to focus with my left eye. Just now having woken up from a few hours of sleep, the focus is slightly better, but I still twitch half my face every time I blink.

I wonder if there's some curse related to this avatar.

Edit: actually, now the focus isn't any better. Stupid.

Edit 2: oh yeah, it isn't just the eye. I can't chew properly either. But that's less troubling.

the rigth side of my face has a similar problem. i can't move many mussles on that side and i have reduced feeling. however that is due to injureis and an illness i had several years ago (lymph node removed and damage to a nerve. caused by lymph node infection)

my eyes and ears are not affected. mostly my cheek/lip area also an area on my neck has reduced feeling.

Let's be smart. Let's be special. Let's quote every man in history as a way of expressing ourselves through other people's words, when we could come up with something meaningful ourselves. Voltaire, Stalin, Jefferson. Anyone you like, so long as its what you think, and in someone else's words so you don't have to come up with it. Things have a habit of meaning more, when you do them yourself. Maybe that's why I've never been one to ask for help, regardless of how bad I needed it. I could sit there stuck on a math problem for the entire hour, or not understand it. I wouldn't ask how to do it. I'd half-ass it and hope it was right. Sometimes, success. Often times, failure. There are annoyances I have to face. You have to face. They have to face. You can't do anything about it either. It's a pleasent thought, isn't it? But the weak ones are the ones that are the creators and controllers of said annoyances, that can make them go away. You know what one of those annoyances is, for me? One-way minds. The minds that insist that the way they're doing things is the only way, and refuse to explore other possibilities, other methods, other outcomes. The ones who think if they don't continue the way they're going now. Right now. That they will fail miserably and be doomed for the rest of their life, regardless of if the path their own right now will ultimately lead to them being unhappy anyway. People. People are idiots. Last Tuesday, over half of america proved that they're ignorant, stupid, bastards. Trent Reznor said it best. "One step closer to the end of the world. The one-two combo of corporate greed and organized religion apparently proved to be too much for reason, sanity, and compassion. It's a sad and shameful day, to be an american."

American. America. The United States of Hypocrisy. The land of the fr..wait. Freeze. Stop. The land of... what? The word is missing. Without purpose things disappear. The land of "blank." The purpose of the word "free" in that sentence has disappeared. It's reason for being there, now null and void, has caused it to discretely fade away as we head into the future. It's purpose used to be to explain that we are about freedom, choice, and practice of our own beliefs, without hinderence. What happened? Ironically, America, as many well know, went on it's own holy crusade to rid the world of the Red Scare, aka, communism. There are but few communist nations left in this world. Ironically, the U.S., grows closer to being one of them.

Dateline, November 5th, 2004. Webb City, MO. A new student from Arkansas is suspended from school for wearing gay pride shirts. Said student is gay, and was a member of a Gay Youth club in their previous school. But. It's okay for kids to go around with anti-gay material, and pins that say "God made Adam and Eve, Not Adam and Steve." Atleast Steve isn't a slut. Shhh. I didn't tell you that. The picture is all wrong. No, not that picture. Go bigger. Even bigger. The biggest you can imagine. The entire fucking world, in a frame. The entire world is in a glass frame, and everyday a hammer is repeatedly being taken to that picture, breaking it, destroying it. The glass has shattered, much like the dreams of those who live there. One hit. Two hits. Three hits. You're out. It's no wonder the people like to live in their own little dream world, ignoring everything else around them. This the previous generation has left us with. Thanks mom and dad, grandpa and grandma. Thanks for fucking up the world, and handing it to us so we can try to put it back together. But again, wait. Broken, bruised, forgotten, sore. Too fucked up to care anymore. It's beyond repair. You can't fucking fix something, and you can't bring change, unless enough people are willing to do so. No. They aren't. They're too busy being happy fucking things up even further, blindly. Ignorance is bliss...until you get whats yours.

We need a new world. Just go to sleep. Everytime I close my eyes there's a vivid new world waiting, chapters unfinished, fading. Dreams and nightmares were never more safe to live in, than they are now. Enjoy your dreams, because more than likely, that's all they'll remain.

i understand what you mean, most people are blind to reality. Sometimes we have only our selves to blame, other times society and other times shit just happens. We tend to forget the past too easily. We cover up our errors and try to make it "not so bad"
Most of the time we want to forget "the bad times" however we only doom ourselves to the same mistakes.

Truth is there will never be a perfect society given the current state of humanity. We are as stupid as we are intelligent.

Things are better than they use to be, go back to the 50-70's, the cold war, WW II, the red scare, slavery, the civil war, the revolution. Thing do need to improve, and always will. Its just what we are. It the fact that we try to evolve that makes us great, but its our blindness that causes us to stumble.

  14. My mom just told me some news about her cousins in California. She doesn't know them too well but hears from them every few years.

Backstory: A few years ago (5 I guess) they put some money in a stock and it exploded, they became millionaires and moved to California. About a year ago they came back to visit and bragged all about their fancy house they were working on. They seemed pretty arrogent and snooty.

Frontstory: Ok so they keep working on this house, and they tell their builders to keep adding new things and new things and more rooms. Appearantly there was an arguement and the father decided that's it. Begone! I've paid you enough! My house is complete! Woops, appearantly they had an important contractual agreement. The builders sued and won. The family had to give up their house to pay it off, and the parents are now looking for jobs. They had it all!

She keeps talking and it gets funnier. The older son was in the top 5 of his class in his exclusive private high school. Uh oh! The younger son participates in worldwide tennis tournaments. Oh dear lord no!

Please forgive me if I seem to be heartless to smile at something so cruel. But you see... But hey... Well actually I have no excuse. Guess I'm heartless then!

I'm in love with this game, got all the genesis sonic games, the game gear games nobody played, and ristar, the ooze, comix zone, and flicky. That's all the good genesis games there are, right? Oops they forgot tiny toon adventures, but I'll let it slide. Hey, it was only 20$!

Problem with it is I have to unlock those last 4 games. I can't even play ristar yet, because I haven't unlocked it. And the way to unlock it (and all of them) are dumb. I have to start all the genesis games and exit them 20-30 times each. Yuck. Can't wait to play ristar and comix zone, have great memories of those games.

I was considering a job witht he cable company, however was told that i should get my concealed carry license if i got stuck in dayton. a good friend of mine worked for them. He was shot at 8 times by drunks, people with illegal hook ups and accidentaly wandering into a gangs hideout, an alley.

She turns in her ID card as she no longer can use it. So they change some things in RAPIDS. i don't know what it stands for. Well, instead of putting my dad as divorced, they put him in as dead.

So what does this mean? No medical coverage for me for one, so if i got my arm lopped off i'd bleed to death in the emergency room. My dad won't get his retirement check. DFAS has probably cut a check because he died back in october. I guess you can't in the army national guard.

  21. After getting home tonight, I ran across a Slashdot article which pointed me into the direction of Maze War, apparently the first FPS DM game ever (ran on, I believe, ARPANET, using an ImLacs PDS-1 computer). Well, reading up on the old ImLacs, I got interested in reading up on more old computers, and eventually ran across this site: http://oldcomputers.net/

It's a rather interesting site if you want to see some older vintage computers.

After going through this site, I've decided to take up a new hobby: collecting old, vintage computers. Not many, and I don't want this to turn into an extremely expensive hobby, but I think it'd be rather fun to do. Pick up an old one here, write a BASIC program or two for it there...

The first one I'm thinking about is a Kaypro II since I found one rather cheap. But given that I'm in Japan, it puts a slight kink into purchasing it. Sure, I can ship it to my house where my mom is, but...the issue of funding comes into play.

    If I can find a Kaypro 2000, though...yeah, that'd be something ^_^

Oh well, we'll see where this goes. Now, off to use an emulated TI99/4A since mine's at home and not here...maybe write some meaningless program in TI-Basic, the first language I learned.

yea i got a big ass 30MB hard drive too. its about the size of my laptop. the cool thing about it is the plastic surroding it is sort of clear. so you can see it work, that is if i decide to hook it up the something.
got that at medelson's as well.

also i have a much smaller but nearly just as old 25MB hard drive. it works. it uses the same type of plug as the old floppies.

  22. Ok, it's 8:09 and I'm in my computer class right now. Fire alarm is off and she won't let us go, plus its supposed to stop after 5 minutes and has been on for 10 minutes. WTF?!

Edit: and 10 minutes later, it's just a firealarm.

we had test in our school for the system. this was after they installed a new fire system and security alarm.

they told the teachers and then told us not to leav when it went off.

a week later there was a problem. a teacher needed to use the computer lab, but they didn't know how the alarm system worked. she thought she had turned it off. she walked into the room and set off the silent alarm and 5 mintues later 6 police cars and a firetruck rolled up. i remember this happening a few more times due to the alarm. at a later point, when i was in 6th grade, part of it was broken and would randomly set its self off. i remember them having to redo the system.

I personaly never really played it, just not my kind game. we had all of them until he sold his gamecube and his play station games.

Now, off to use an emulated TI99/4A since mine's at home and not here...maybe write some meaningless program in TI-Basic, the first language I learned.

japan seems like a kick ass place. Would you consider living there for the rest of you life?
typhoons and earthquakes, yea those can suck. however they are not as bad as an allied bombing raid.

      about old computers?
well there is a store here called medelson's. it has just about everything you can think of. I bought some cool stuff there. They had a few of those compaq systems, portable 1. I did buy the 8 inch floppy drive, that thing was fucking huge, as big as a computer. i sold it to the guy down the street, but i kept the disks. i bought 2 unopened boxes of 8 inch floppy disks.
