Let's get this straight right now, Doom is irreplaceable. But I can't help but feel weirdly nostalgic about Freedoom. I have only been playing Doom for a year. Freedoom was weird to me back when I got into modding. It seemed like a bad indie fps you would find on the app store in 2012. But at the same time, that's kind of its unique charm. Everything seems plastic. I played through most of Freedoom Phase 1 on this GZDoom port I had on my tablet, and it was so annoying and hard to play because a game like Doom wasn't meant to be played on a tablet. But I had a great time with Freedoom, and I don't know if that sounds like blasphemy or not to a lot of people. You gotta respect how much work they had to do to make Freedoom. What do you think of Freedoom? Am I alone here?

Thanks for all your comments, I'll try something else. Forget this ever happened. For all of you who are so interested in what it is specifically that I wanted help with, I simply wanted to make a retro-style, challenging megawad reminiscent of Doom 1. Admittedly nothing special at all, but I just wanted to see who might be interested. I'm glad you guys were able to point me in the right direction, but I'm finished with this thread.

Trust me, I regret ever having thought of this.

Thanks, I'll remember that. I have plenty of ideas for a megawad, but I just didn't do this in the best way possible. I'll be more selective next time.

My headset is a Kotion Each G2000, and I've checked if my headset mic is the default mic device, and I have the volume on on it, but all that it registers is noise. It's connected, but it doesn't actually record anything. PLEASE HELP ME

I got some guitar gear, a book about the Master of Puppets era and a tablet!

My dad loved Gone Away by The Offspring, but I didn't know FFDP's version was a cover, so when I found out it was, and I showed him the music video, he said he didn't feel like it needed a remake. That kinda ruined both versions for me, but I still love the original.

If I have kids, I'll raise them on games I love as well as what's popular at the time. I want my kids to be able to appreciate the beauty of a game like Doom. It's not going away.

A Moment of Clarity by Death, Hurt by NIN (as well as the Johnny Cash version), A Tout Le Monde by Megadeth, Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold, Lateralus by Tool, Soothsayer by Buckethead, and Swan Song by Set it Off always get to me. Also A Warm Place by NIN, Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin, and Perrenial Quest by Death (the outro is so sad that for a while it haunted me, and every time I thought of it I thought of how I was gonna grow up and leave everything I love behind, because the song is about pursuing the future, and its lyrics, solos and message are so powerful). One by Metallica makes me wanna headbang, scares me, makes me sad, and makes me wanna play guitar all at the same time. Balloons by Madnopony is one of the saddest songs I've heard, and Voice of the Soul by Death is so beautiful. I also think that The End of Doom by Bobby Prince is one of the saddest songs I've heard in a game (the song that plays when Ruben dies in MCSM also comes to mind, that one breaks my heart into a trillion billion pieces). Negative Comments Song comes to mind, too, even though at first it comes off as funny, but you also begin to feel like it has a double meaning; it's funny and sad, and I love the solos and production. If I think of any others, I could add more. *Almost forgot To Live is to Die by Metallica, that would have been a tragedy, like Cliff's death. RIP. (RIP Chuck too) *I would post more videos, but I don't wanna flood the page.

It's projects like this that justify id's decision to make Doom very open-ended and moddable. This is freaking amazing!

I mostly use Zandronum and PRBoom/GLBoom. I don't use GZDoom much because I don't have the hardware for the hardware renderer, and all the other renderers suck for the kinds of mods you would wanna play with GZDoom. I like the Boom source ports because they feel pretty vanilla but still have some great accessibility and features. I also love Chocolate Doom, but I hate trying to load custom wads with it because I think you need to make a batch file or a whole new configuration just to load something besides the base game.
