  1. Ah but you see, Hugo is a well-known House demolisher in his past time, of course he’s pissed off I mean those guys are goddamn bloodsucking parasites!
  2. Doom 2016 had a different writer, so idk why you’d think they won’t do it again

The Ancient Gods 2 - Impressions and Story Spoilers

This is why I don’t get overly-stressed about franchises. I used to be a Star Wars fan, and well if I took that seriously and emotionally I’d be in an insane asylum. You’re a moderator, you should know this. Take it easy, we still have doom mods and they are not going anywhere, plus ID Software did release that Doom 64 port on steam last year, so it’s not all blunders.

Eh, I think we’ve had enough of “Doom” in general. The ID guys definitely agree.

That seems to be the common consensus. Doom eternal is a good game but the vast majority prefers 2016, Hugo Martin has stated himself that they have not made what he thinks to be a really good Doom game. Unlike what most people think, Hugo is actually quite humble in that regard. I did read that the next ID game should be smaller scaled and perhaps that would be good for Hugo and the team. Than again, 2016 was a smaller-scaled game so perhaps that’s what they should aim for.

I would say “different strokes for different folks” but then people will go on a debate on subjectivity vs objectivity so I stay clear away abt it. If someone does say their thoughts are “valid criticism” I leave them be. Makes things easier.

He still is, he got his godlike powers after surviving hell and proving himself worthy to the makyrs. So yes, for a time Doomguy was just a marine who survived hell through a combination of wits and sheer luck.

May I recommend a Quake mod called Slayers Testament? It combines the best aspects of Doom Eternal and 2016 into one. So you have the dash and less reliance on flame-belch and chainsaw. (It’s a one hit kill like 2016)

My only thing I like abt the new doom games is them bringing more people into the old-school FPS genre, so they can discover shit like DUSK or ULTRAKILL

Welp, no arguments there I suppose. I do agree with people saying 2016 is the overall better experience, but I find myself coming back to Doom Eternal more, I mean playing 2016 without the dash feels empty:

Don’t listen to Sgt Mark, he forgot to consider that there are 7 billion people on earth and 7 billion of them won’t even have the same exact thoughts on the quality of Doom Eternal.
  13. Let’s get this out of the way first, I fucking love Doom Eternal. however, after reading multiple posts in this forum and thinking about it for a while, I’ve realized that the game while great, could do with some tweaks to make it better. My problem with the game is the inherent fat and lack of streamline in game mechanics. some fixes I would’ve done include: - removal of grenades. They’re cool, but we already have the grenade launcher attachment for that. - keep the flame-belch - less cool down based gameplay. For example, to recharge the chainsaw you don’t have to wait for a timer, instead you could charge it through glory kills, a bit like the Blood Punch so you don’t have to stand around waiting for it to charge. The more demons you glory kill, the larger the charge. - remove blood punch. That’s it. - Crucible can deflect projectiles, make it more melee based instead of a one kill weapon. - keep weapons as is, but I’d probably change the HAR to look more similar to ‘16. thats all I can think off.

    Bringing back the Chaingunner

You forget that the Shotgun Zombies are Hitscan, then again that is one class in an entire game
  15. This. This is the problem with Doom Eternal. It’s not “shitty micro-management” or “it needs to be Doom 2016 no. 2” but the cohesion of the player experience. The mechanics are there, the gameplay is fun but the pacing, story is wack. Doom might not need a good story, but it could atleast have good atmosphere, themes and a thrilling experience. Idk why that was dropped.

Has This Game Become A Joke?

Ah yes, I love using military strategies when I do the bing-bing wahoo platforming
  18. I can definetely see that. Different strokes for different folks. Glad to see fair discussion still exists here :)
  19. So UnderTheMayo makes a video of new stuff you could do with Doom Eternal’s mechanic, showing that the game gives quite a lot of player freedom and now you call it “bugs”? Wtf is with that? Strafe-jumping was a bug in Quake and got turned into a feature so I don’t see how finding new things to do in DE is a “bug”.
  20. Idc anymore, this whole thread is stupid. I feel like both sides have good arguments so that’s cool, but then you have the real toxic stuff and I feel this thread has devolved into the toxic side, I’m out
  21. Ok before anything lets start off with this. All I told you right now is that there's a demon called a Mancubus. It is a projectile based enemy and it's attacks can be tampered with by shooting off a weak-point. After that i show you this image. where do you think the weak-points are? Obviously the first thing you'll see is the fact that it has 2 large cannons on it arms. But wait, what's this? it looks like a heart and from my experience in watching movies, getting shot in the heart hurts. So should i shoot it? is that the weak-point? nope its not lol. This could easily be fixed by removing that whole heart thing entirely making us focus more on those blasted hand-cannons. I mean the og Mancubus didn't even have a heart (boohoo). After that, i tell you more demons have weak-points, so i show you 2 pictures of demons, one of which has an actual shootable weak-point. is it the Revenant or Mecha-zombie? At first glance you'd think the Mecha-Zombie's arm is a weak-point, similar to the Mancubus's arm cannon, but nope it isnt. Its the Revenant. How does anyone know that at first glance? The only thing telling us this is tutorials. So here in lies the problem with DE's weak-points. Mechanically, they are a fun addition to the game making you do an extra bit of thought in your slaughter. The problem is....... Inconsistent Demon Design (or something idk). All of this can be fixed without making the demons look edgier btw, just shit like removing the heart thing from the Mancubus or have the Mecha-zombie's arm cannon look dissimilar to the Mancubus's. In-fact i'll suggest removing the arm cannon entirely, what if he just shoots projectiles from his arms? idk. Just something i thought about.
  22. You know what’s funny? We’ll give solid counter arguments to most of NeoWorm’s “”points”” but he’s just gonna ignore all of them and keep on spouting this bs abt “Player freedom” or something.
  23. If you want to criticize things objectively, atleast do it right. Different and demanding style doesn’t mean bad. If you played a tactical shooter the same way you play Doom ‘16 it wouldn’t be possible, because that’s not the type of game it’s going for. Objectively criticizing things is taking into account what the game sets out to do. If the game wants a specific and hard playstyle that doesn’t allow “”player freedom”” or so you say, that doesn’t make it bad. What I’m understanding is that playing Doom Eternal the same way as ‘16 is both possible and not possible but objective qualities is more than “playing the same way as something else” or “the playstyle needs to be like this”. It’s about execution most of the time.
