    Rotated pastes never stitch vertices

    One thing i've noticed is that when rotating 90 degrees sometimes half the vertices will be 1 unit out of grid alignment, presumably due to a rounding error, would be nice if there were 90 degree rotation shortcuts to get around this (alongsige the horiz/vert flip shortcut buttons)

Update: ok so i finally got around to starting work on the RC, so far: Weapons: Knife : now 50 hp damage max, seems to be 50/50 wether or not it takes 1 or 2 hits to kill an imp, humans usually take only 1 Scimitar : now 120 hp max and a little faster, seems fine for dealing with demons, faster than the chainsaw at taking them down at least Monsters : Calfdemon : fixed death frames, falls to floor, should also be ressurectable now Maps : MAP 05 : added tripwires to open the yellow key area's doors from inside MAP 10 : fixed the 100% health platform MAP 11 : fixed the prBoom voodoo script issue, now possible to progress Next : going to attempt to rework some weapon sprites i found on the net (inc ninja wars, or whatever it was called) to make the knife and scimitar anims at least a bit better.

I can't draw jack s**t but my scimitar wad needs a, well, scimitar, aka cutlass, the type that pirates use, I also need a knife to match, looks like the sprites in ninjaduel.wad might help me and I can probably bodge the gloved doomguy hands onto those if need be, but then my scimitar wad will have a katana, so it's not a big panic or a major demand but if anyone can come up with a nice Scimitar for me then I'd be very gratefull, pretty pleeeeeease!

    halo wars

    wasn't halo originally concieved as a RTS game waaay back in the day? hence the big outdoor settings, dumb troops and variety of vehicles and gun posts. if that's not an urban legend then it really has come fully circle, i mean, full halo :-)

    A little help with /newstuff

    just checked filezilla out and it looks exactly like bpftp, the one i use. which is an evil complicated beast but handy off topic question though: why are ftp clients either super souped up life the above or crappy winzip type wizards? would be great to be able to just mount my web server as if it were a folder or mapped drive in windows explorer. except the ones i've tried (albeit many moons ago) that tried to work in explorer were bug filled crash fests. ho hum

    Rocky VI, what are your expectations?

    I think it will rock. Love the trailer and the jokes about him been far too old for it, and i think that's what'll make it. Unlike T3 (and indiana jones 4, probably) it's not pretending that stallone is still in his 30's. This is another chapter in the life of Rocky, when in western cinema have we had the chance to so closely follow the life of one character through his major ups and downs over ~4 decades? I do agree though that it should mirror the first, he goes the distance but looses on points or something, but the optimistic ending is that he goes home, opens his restaurant the next day and the boxer kid comes in for chow, and shows his respect to the old boy after mouthing him off for the rest of the film. yeah, big cheese, but that's rocky for ya :-)
  8. Yeah this is boom-compatible so the weapons are very limited to the dehacked patch, would love to make the knife/sword silent (to enemies) but alas can not. The strengths you mention ARE what i plan for though.

There are three quite simple solutions to your problem (disclaimer: i spent 5 out of the last 6 years living with 3 large, hungry and very under-your-feet cats so i consider myself an expert): 1. Be very vey nice to said cat, until it loves you, this will involve nothing short of cat worship on your part 2. Declare war on said cat, be very very mean, but not violent, it has claws, you will not win, psychological fear is what you need to invoke. Give it a bath, medicate worming tablets and apply flea shampoo and a collar, for example. 3. Take off your size 14 army boots and watch where the fuck you are stepping FFS

I think i've still got my first ever (circa 1994) attempt lying around, it's a doom episode 2 replacement but involves mostly bases and slime. did try to play through it a couple of years back only to find that i cleary had no idea how to use line specials to operate things, getting lifts to work was a bit of an art. interestingly it used the "levels join together" technique made famous by unreal/half-life even back then really should at least make it play-throughable and clean up the medusa effects, should be a blast!

  12. Thanks for all that feedback, good stuff. The scimitar and dagger are supposed to be mean enough that the beserk is not needed. Any thoughts on how strong they should be then? being able to kill a demon in one blow with the scimitar is a good suggestion as for your aiming/jumping issues, some of them you can circumvent, at no point have i tested these maps with vlook or jumping (so if a switch is high up you may be able to shoot it from a high up place nearby, for example)... but i will give it a thorough prboom testing to test everything you've found. map05 key grab, well spotted :-) originally there wasnt a wall closing the ledge in so you could grab the key and just jump off, so it's an oversight on my part map08 is big, it actually started off as two maps which i werent happy with so joined them together, but the map size does start to increase at that point anyway, if i get time i will open it up so it'll still be physically as large but hopefully not as much as a drag map11 - flood - the gates are on a timer, controlled by a voodoo doll, you may simply have had to wait, but again, i'll check it out in prboom, it might be getting stuck

  15. Well, 14 people have downloaded it according to my logs and only one person left any comments, i guess that means it's perfect already :-) i might finally get chance to play through very thouroughly myself this weekend and take notes about the monster/ammo/health and such

    Can you filter the lumps? it just shows a big list of all the lumps with question marks next to them, not very easy to track down a single patch in a megawad, for example

    hmm, what about jumping to the window near the blue door on the left on map03? there's a deaf soldier parked there and I managed to (probably) use him as a bit of a booster to get across after about 30 tries in chocolate doom. The window is 64 units wide and only 160 units away but you have to arrive at quite a sharp angle to fit your fat ass through. something that the layout of the map makes very difficult due to the central octagonal building. Could shave a second or three off yer normal speed run though edit: after quick look at compet-n... bollocks, looks like a standard trick, heh

    I've been wandering about this, there's an old demo thread about actually getting through it but has anyone figured out the magic formula (Aside from it being 32px wide and exactly NS/EW) for *creating* one in a map? Maybe it's just me and the ports I've used because I can never get through them.

    well a wholly unscientific look at these by using the automap and zooming in as far as you can go suggested that it only happens when you are exactly lined up with the gap and not a fraction of a degree out. Next I tried running a quick custom version of winmbf to printf the player's (desired) speed at particular moments in time. which seemed to discount this. the first north-south one worked when (roughly): momx = -300 momy = 400000 if my theory was correct that -300 whould have been zero, when you're bobbing up and down and not getting through the gap the y speed is approx 100000 needs more code analysis but i'm busy right now so will have to wait. a quick look shows that the wall (line) detection code runs lines from the corners of the player box to see what they hit and then attempts to slide the payer along whatever walls it encounters. at a guess in this example the glide works when the corner of the player that wants to slide along the wall (your left in the first NS glide) wins over the one that wants to stop dead on the front side of the pillar (to the right)

  24. ok can someone explain this to me, a load of pringles floating about making trippy patterns, fair enough. but then they bring up a pretty girl who demonstrates the action of eating said pringles whilst pulling "yummy" faces. on three occasions. like, what? how is this supposed to get me to part from my cash?

    Pringles "Everlasting Love" ad

    naa, i'm a hula hoops man myself (ready salted with salad cream in a sandwich) though it does remind me of the time we had a pringles eating contest, you had to get as many (whole ones) as you can in your mouth at once, chew and swallow them. once you get above about 20 you have to wait quite a whlie for your saliva to start disolving them so you can move your jaw to start the actual chewing process. can be lethal though as you find youself choking on the crumbs, especially if you laugh.
