    Todd Hollenshead interview

We shouldn´t expect that all the stuff we see in concept art sketches will actually make it into the game. Although I really like the look of that Giger-esque female flying head... maybe it´s an advanced Lost Soul ;)

    Doom 3 Petition

You could easily skip scenes like the one where Pinky is eating a zombie, or where the Commando attacks you with the minigun, without losing parts of the plot. But there surely are other cutscenes that are important to the plot... well I think I just have to get used to that annoying view switching, and if it will not be done excessivley, it should work OK.

    Doom 3 Petition

Zaldron, what´s with the "no-cutscenes way of playing" Doom3? Or was that just a technical thought?

    Todd Hollenshead interview

Yes, and we know that since almost 2 years now...

    Doom 3 Petition

Really?! Where have you heard that? If it´s true, it´s pretty cool, because I dislike cutscenes that interupt the flow and switch to the 3rd person view.

    Todd Hollenshead interview

Todd was talking about the E3 presentation, and the content of the leaked video IS what they presented on the E3, not the Legacy video...

    Todd Hollenshead interview

And it would be cool if the level designers will come up with really crazy ideas for hell, something we´ve never seen before.

    Todd Hollenshead interview

You´ re right, some id guy said something about a trip to hell.

    Todd Hollenshead interview

But there was Drooly shown at the E3 presentation, not Birdman...

    Todd Hollenshead interview

I found the part interesting, where he explains that the whole game will be basicly one gigantic level. Although I hope we will see Hell as a seperate place, and not just the UAC base before and after the invasion.
  11. Here are some interesting news bits from the german Gamestar magazine: http://www.gamestar.de/news/pc-spiele/action/9591/ Here is my translation for you: "During an Activision press event we recently were able to take a look at the newest version of Doom 3, including a fresh pixel beast and a new level. The newcomer monster was equipped with two rocket launchers, attached on it´s shoulders - similar to the Revenant in Doom 1. At our request they confirmed us that the Doom remake will not only contain revised monsters from the first part, but also will provide some new cannon fodder - more precise details weren´t mentioned. Apart from the level that was presented at the E3, there was shown a new polygon construction*, it´s interior didn´t show any particular innovations, opponents were only spawned in by pressing a key. With reference to the present development status, there will be no areas which are completely outdoor, but the id Software guys plan to remove the ceiling polygons from time to time, just to ensure that there actually is a sky texture. To demonstrate the grafical magnificence to the specialist audience, the textures were removed at the touch of a key, and you could see surprisingly few polygons. It´s still not definitively decided if Nine Inch Nail band leader Reznor will do the music and ambient sound. The presentation run on a Pentium 4. More details will be reported soon from the QuakeCon." * Note: "polygon construction" is just a silly transliteration for level ;) Well, I´m not so happy about the "no outdoor levels" part, but maybe the Gamestar guys just misunderstood something there...

Gamestar news: Revenant and no outdoor levels

Yeah, I was thinking the same... Activision probably just made clear, that Doom3 will not have gigantic outdoor missions a la Unreal2. But some outdoor parts should be there. Just to give the player the feeling that he (or she) is actually moving arround in a real world. A large panorama view outside a window to a Mars valley would do it. Or maybe a part where you ride a train trough a canyon or landscape, while fighting Cacodemons and other floating evil just like in an arcade shooter :)

Gamestar news: Revenant and no outdoor levels

Yes, at least that´s what the Gamestar article suggests. On a side note, Gamestar is somewhat hated in the german Quake community for beeing a bit biased and pro-Unreal... when Q3A and UT were released, they wrote a quite retarded review about Q3A (showing that they don´t have a clue with movement and game physics etc.,and have no experience with Q1 and Q2), while praising UT because of it´s many gimmicks. So, maybe they just want to hear that the Unreal2 engine has great outdoor levels and the Doom3 engine don´t... No problem :)

Gamestar news: Revenant and no outdoor levels

Sorry, my translation was a bit sloppy in this part (just edited it), they write "Freiluft-Areale", which means outdoor areas. And in the next sentence they are talking about Q1 style sky lights... But possibly they just mean there will be no entirely outdoor levels, it´s not that clear.

Gamestar news: Revenant and no outdoor levels

I never liked the look of the old Revenant, but I´m pretty sure the Doom3 version will kick ass :)

what do you want to see in DooM III?

The Q3 Rocket Launcher is one of the coolest RLs ever! It feels, sounds and looks just right in the Arenas (it´s kind of a RL Sport version especially designed for deathmatch combat, not for warfare) -it would however look totaly out of place in a game like Doom3.

    Tri count

I just said why... the size of the maps is another thing.

    Tri count

But the polycount of the reference models should also be mentioned! At least they create the detailed look of the bumpmapped surfaces.

    How many Pink Demons?

I think the new Imps vulnerability will be similar (1-2 shotgun blasts), but its jump attack seems indeed very dangerous... can´t wait to fight one. Its fire balls seem to be less dangerous, because it just throwes them like a small napalm bomb or something like that...it needs a good aim to hit you with it.

    How many Pink Demons?

Not outstanding, but why should it be not as good as the AI in Halflife? I have no clue about how the AI works in recent games etc., but is it that hard to program a HL-like AI today?
  21. Tetzlaff

    How many Pink Demons?

I hope the Spectre version of the Pinky will NOT be in Doom3... invisibility just doesn´t fit the character of such a brutal straight-in-your-face monster. A Spectre Imp would work better, or a completely new demon.

    about the actual gameplay video

Hey, he is a scientist! Not a politician or businessman ... He is eager for knowledge and wants to know what´s going on there, behind the portal, and want´s to know what sort of intelligent beeing is communicating with him. Probably he doesn´t even believe in hell and satanic power.

    about the actual gameplay video

BTW, for me it looks as if the guy attached to the glowing pentagramm is the scientist again. Will he be sacrificed? Or maybe transformed into some sort of boss monster you meet later in the game?

    Where is CACO dammit!?

I don´t understand what you mean with realistic in this case, is the Cacodemon unrealistic because he can fly? But the Souls fly as well... Or because he is such a weird creature?
  25. Tetzlaff

    Where is CACO dammit!?

I didn´t found the Cacodemon that cartoonlike (the most cartoonish design was the Revenant IMO), it somehow resembles indonesian demon masks, which are colourful but look nevertheless scary. Something like that: http://www.indonesiaexport.com/masks-bali/picture/m-35b_a.jpg Here is even a one-eyed demon, just like the Caco: http://www.scs.uiuc.edu/suslick/images/kssart/mask.bali1eyedfanged.jpg
