  1. Because so far I must say this is my favorite Doom that I’ve played. After playing Doom Eternal, with all the extra time on my hands due to covid, and with these recent PS4 Classic Doom updates making them awesome, I decided to go back and play every single canon Doom game in chronological order. So far I’ve beaten The Ultimate Doom, Sigil, Doom II: Hell on Earth, The Master Levels for Doom II, No Rest for the Living, and now I’m on to Final Doom. I am only up to level 10 of Evilution, and it is the most fun I’ve had with Classic Doom since The Ultimate Doom (so far that and TNT are probably tied for my favorite). Every level so far has just been a total banger. I know the game gets a pretty bad rap, so I thought I would ask if anyone here actually enjoys TNT, or even better, considers it their favorite. Does it just get worse and worse from here? If I enjoyed the hell out of maps 1-10, how likely am I to like the rest of it? With the level of detail put into the visuals and the overall level design in the first “chapter” (first 1/3rd), I find it hard to believe that the same developers could end up making trash to the level that I’ve heard this game referred to as
  2. Yeah I finished it and I actually loved it. I would say I like it better than Doom II. I like how the environmental progression/storytelling is back again from Ultimate Doom. After I beat it, I also beat Plutonia, which I like even better. But yeah, final Doom is my favorite of the 3 so far. I just started Doom 64 though so we will see if that one is even better!

The opening movie for Doom 64

I like to think this was the first attempt at an assault on the Mars base. They sent a whole battalion who went in guns a'blazin' and were utterly slaughtered. So then the government is like "they're all dead, what are we gonna do?" and then another guy says "there is one last hope, but he's in retirement". "Get him on the phone!"

The opening movie for Doom 64

Thank you for that tip. And actually Doom 64 is longer after Doom II. The manual for Final Doom heavily implied that some hears have passed since the events of Doom II, Doomguy has been promoted to the Marine Commander, and he has been having nightmares about the creatures he fought it Doom and Doom II (these nightmares are probably what the Master Levels are). And then the Doom 64 manual implied that an even longer amount of time has passed since Final Doom, since Doomguy has had time to see multiple different military doctors and PTSD specialists, and notes that none of their treatments have worked (so enough time has passed to determine that also). So this is long after Final Doom and all portals have finally been closed and dealt with, then the conflict is that there was one demon who was never killed in the initial outbreak on Mars/its moons, who happens to have rejuvenation powers.
  5. This has nothing to do with others! Its my own mind that can hinder my enjoyment lol

The opening movie for Doom 64

But maybe after the motherdemon sent the message to earth, those marines went there with doomguy, and he was the commander, and then he got away (the marine we see escaping around back) and then finds an entrance or a portal like you say to somewhere safe, and then the game begins

The opening movie for Doom 64

Well but Doom 64 takes place like 10 years after the original Doom, because Doomguy is older now and suffering PTSD from going to Hell so many times. And the portal was opened in the very first game, which did not have mancubi or Arachnotrons
  8. Oh im not worried about other people at all, its more like my own mind and what some part of it in the back of my mind thinks affecting my enjoyment of the game if it feels like ive been doing it wrong
  9. I have read that this was the case for the N64 version. I also read on another thread here that someone beat the campaign, and then went to play the fun levels but they didn't have the features menu anymore. does it go away in the new PS4 version? Also, does the PS4 version save your passwords, the way the N64 would if you had a controller pack memory card?
  10. I don't understand how they can save your specific information when you can also find them online. Does that mean if you find one online for a particular level and enter it, it will just have saved some random persons information, like whoever posted it online? Or are they all the same and it would just give you generic pistol start if you haven't reached that level before, and give you your stats if you have reached it before?
  11. I thought the passwords were specific to your play through? If they are general, and can be found online, how do they also reload all the weapons that you had and the keys and health and all of that? Don't they do that? I thought I read that they did.

Some questions about DOOM 64's settings

For controller settings, there are 3 turning styles: yaw, roll, and reverse. I've tried all 3 but I cannot notice any difference between them. What are these supposed to do? There is "move sensitivity" and "turn sensitivity", but then there is also "sensitivity" just plain. What does that one do? Why are there different ones? One for left stick and one for right stick I understand, but then what is the general one? is that for the buttons? What settings should I do for PS4 that will perfectly emulate the movement/turning feeling/sensitivity from the Doom and Doom II PS4 ports?
  13. So it shows you the password when you go to the password section in the options menu? So you have to finish the level, and then exit to the main menu before you start the next level? And then it will be filled in for you?
  14. Oh yeah it shows me the password at the end of each level, but what did you mean by it shows you it if you go to its section in the main menu?
  15. Where do they show it? When I go to passwords from the main menu, its just blank with a keyboard to enter one, even though I am in the middle of an active play through
  16. I just started Doom 64 for the first time, on the PS4, after doing a chronological 100% playthrough of all the previous canon games (Ultimate Doom, Sigil, Doom II, NRFTL, Master Levels, Evilution, Plutonia Experiment), also on PS4. I want to have a play experience as close to authentic as possible. I was wondering, when are the “Fun Levels” supposed to be played? Do I play them after beating the main game? Or am I supposed to play them as soon as I unlock the features menu, after Hectic? I have read that the last Fun Level, after you finish it, takes you back to the first level. Is this true? So are you supposed to play Level 1 > Hectic > Fun Levels > and then play through the game starting with playing Level 1 over again? Also, I am wanting to do a total and complete 100% playthrough. I really wanna squeeze every feature, secret, and bit of content out of the game that there is, in a single playthrough. Is this possible, and if so are there any things I should know about ahead of time? Anything weird or complicated like the first secret exit? thank you!

(DOOM 64) When are the Fun Levels meant to be played?

What is map 40? and how do you get to it? I don't see a 40 listed on the Doomwiki

(DOOM 64) When are the Fun Levels meant to be played?

Is there a reason for this? Why does it do this? If you beat the campaign and then play all the fun levels in the same save file, does it register that youve beaten the campaign or does it somehow reset that after you finish the final fun level? Why do they make the final fun level go into level 1?

Is this the total canon for the life and times of Doomguy?

Oh yeah I definitely agree that at some point during Doomslayer’s escapades in Hell, the UAC from a universe that is not his native one found his sarcophagus. I thought that was pretty much canon though, and I thought the guy I replied to was saying that the games from UD to DE couldnt all fit together in one chronology

Is this the total canon for the life and times of Doomguy?

Why not? The classic trilogy, doom 64, and the 2 newest games all do have a coherent timeline. Its only doom 3 that would require a differrnt timeline

    Default Difficulty for Doom 64?

I have been trying to figure this out for a while now. Doom 64 only has 4 difficulty, or skill, levels, instead of the usual 5. In Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom, “Hurt me Plenty” is the default difficulty, the one that the base game is initially developed for, with the other difficulties either adding or subtracting items/enemies in order to make things easier or harder. In those games, there are 3 difficulty categories: easy, normal, and hard, with 2 difficulties in the easy category and 2 in the hard category. Doom 64 only has 2 difficulty categories: easier, and harder; each has 2 options. So which skill level of the 4 is the default one, or the equivalent to Hurt me Plenty? According to most people on reddit, and a single gameFAQs post I saw, the skill levels are the same as the classic games, just with the omission of “Nightmare”. This would make “I Own Doom” (the first option within the ‘harder’ category) the default or equivalent to HMP. But this page on ClassicDoom.com says that “Bring it On” is the default difficulty. Do we have any information on this? Who is correct? Which difficulty is the “normal”, default experience of the game? (http://classicdoom.com/doomcode.htm#n64

    Default Difficulty for Doom 64?

I’m pretty sure They didn’t choose for it to be default, it just was because that was the game they made, and then they added things to it for the harder modes

Is this the total canon for the life and times of Doomguy?

No, not in any official capacity. Some fans have theorized that it could be, but officially speaking, even id software themselves said that Doom 3 is a remake or reimagining of the first game. So Doom 3 is not the same Doomguy as the other games. The games I listed above all follow the same main character

Yeah now that’s what I’m talking ‘bout!

Is this the total canon for the life and times of Doomguy?

I disagree about Final Doom, it was officially published by id software, with its own storyline. I definitely count that one. And the story manuals from Final Doom indicate that Doomguy has been having many nightmares about the demons ever since saving Earth in Doom II, so I assume the Master Levels are a collection of Doomguy’s dreams. The Final Doom manuals also say that there have been a few little “clean-up” operations on Earth after the Icon of Sin had been killed, and the backstory for No Rest for the Living basically says the exact same thing, so I assume that is just one of those smaller-scale cleanups.
