  1. So this is apparent for me on the PS4 version. While in a given instance of the application running, you can only load your quicksave a limited number of times. Eventually, you will no longer be able to load, or save, and if you look at the load game list, your saves will all be missing, until you close and reopen the application (after which your saves are all there again, and everything is back to normal until you load a quicksave another whatever number of times). From a google search it seems this is something others have experienced. I apologize if this has already been brought up on the forum.

Even Simpler, a simple level based on Dead Simple from Doom 2 that later appeared in Doom 2016.

Next one is Dark Citadel from the Brutal Doom 64 because of its hanging guys screaming and crying, too macabre... But the bad thing is its purple sky that makes it suck, I prefer the starry one as the original.

what do you mean it later appeared in Doom 2016? Even Simpler did? like the area where it takes place? if so, what level is that in?

Wasn't Hitman 16 released as an episodic game with less content and got updates over time?

Also, how does the game graphically look compared to 2016/Eternal, which have a mostly super detailed art style and are meant to be fast paced games.

I wouldn't mind seeing modern Doom games trying to have some sort of open field/slaughterwadish/Serious Sam style fights, since those can be fun and could be different from most arenas.

i would say it has more content than Doom, such as destructible windows and interactive environments (car tires, etc.), and more variation in the npcs, you rarely see 2 npcs with the same appearance or clothing. it was initially released episodically but currently you can buy the whole game. each level is an open, contained area with a pre-determined number of NPCs all places in certain areas. so you can kill everyone in a map. funnily enough this is exactly the way the classic doom game levels were structured. and the graphics for hitman 2016 are definitely on par with doom 2016, but its in a more realistic environment so they are kind of different graphical styles

Maybe someone should ask id Software why they continue to make dead monsters disappear, if modern hardware can manage to depict lots of dead bodies in various pieces and positions and poses, compared to previous generations of their games.

    :)

what about a game like Hitman 2016? with large open areas, hundreds of NPC’s which don’t dissapear, which you can even shoot at any point and they will still react even while dead. That game runs at 60fps even on consoles, and has great graphics.

Hey @LucidLocomotive, it is poor etiquette to make 2 posts in a row asking the same question, and generally 2 or more posts in a row. You can group all questions into the same post, quote multiple people, and even edit existing posts. Thank you in advance.

    As for your question:

    There are no rocket launchers.

whoops, sorry. thanks for the tip. I’m new to message boards other than reddit. also thanks for the level info, that is good to know.

A few hours ago I started to type out a response to Xymph, asking about this, but then it dawned on me, "hey, I'm a programmer"... so I may have accidentally grabbed DMMPST's source and started adding Doom64 support for it. :P

So far I've got it reading in the map format and outputting map & thing statistics (including Doom64's new things, Unmaker & all), and I'll probably be at the point where I can export all the relevant wiki markup once I add support for D64's secret sector flag (probably in a day or two; I'm getting sleepy :P ).

There's still a bit more tinkering I'll need to do before my DMMPST "fork" (or update, if Xymph is up for adopting it) is ready for general use, since the Doom64 PC IWAD stores maps as wads-within-a-wad and I'll need to sneak in support for that at some point, but the goal is to produce something that'll be usable for generating wiki page skeletons for Doom64 pwads, should that ever become a thing. :P

hey do you know if you can check if there is a rocket launcher pickup at all in map 12: altar of pain? there are a lot of rockets lying around but I cannot find anything about a rocket launcher in any guides

It'd definitely be possible, though I don't know how accurate the D64EX maps are compared to the commercial Doom 64 release. I don't see any reason why Things and whatnot would be different between the maps though, which is what those tables would need. And SLADE can certainly open up the "new" DOOM64.WAD file, so it doesn't look like much has changed in that sense. (Though it's got hash differences, so there's definitely changes.)

At that point it'd just be down to looking in EX's source for the necessary map format info, implementing that into Xymph's tools, and having it parse DOOM64.WAD to generate the info to slap into the wiki.

do you (or anyone else here) know whether or not there is a rocket launcher in map 12: altar of pain? is there a way to find out by checking the code of EX?

Oh i don't use much guides except for when i'm really stuck. And i just use them to discover that, sometimes, i'm a complete retard for not thinking something soo obvious jajaja.
I'm gonna check if there is something interesting.

Hope you can enjoy your play ;)

its a great site for all kinds of thing. lately I’ve been using it to get the manual backstories for all of the classic wads in UD, D2, FD, and D64

There are plenty of wads that doesn't have documentation at all.
Not that i am complaining, but a workaround for that some of here use when we want to find our way around maps is opening the builder, loading the map and check things out.
Unfortunately, in your case, that you want to know every secret of Doom 64, i think thats not possible with the actual Doombuilders.
So i recommend you, instead of the wikia, check some gamefaqs, there are some really detailed and really well explained wlakthoughts there. Also for Doom 64, thats what i did back then when i first played Doom64 Ex.
For the lost levels, well, you have time to play around with Doom 64 normal maps, maybe when you end the campaing, there is a dedicated page on the official Doomwiki.

okay thanks I think I will just use ClassicDOOM.com. have you ever used that site? it’s really good. and also yeah you are right about a lot of wads being empty, the only thing is that Doom 64 is an official, canon game in the main series, that’s been out since 97, so it just surprises me that its so empty

The Doom Wiki started life on Fandom and after several years the community of editors who created it decided to leave it and become an independent site. Fandom don't let you move your site because they make money off the ads on their pages, so the old site remains, confuses people and competes with the real wiki in search results.

That's why we all hate Fandom so much. It's not just because "the pages have lots of ads and that's annoying". Fandom disrespects our community and fucks us all over for profit. If you care about this wonderful Doom community we're all part of, please always use the real Wiki that's community-owned and maintained, and tell all your friends to never give Fandom money by visiting their site.

but what if I need to know where the secrets all are in a Doom 64 level? just use classicdoom.org and look at the maps?

They've been disappearing since Doom 3, hell has shitty frame rates.

yeah but I am not including that one because its a different universe. i’m just talking about my headcanon for why they started disappearing *in-universe* at some point during the life and times of doomguys adventures

  12. why did doomguy slaughter thousands of Demons in the past without a single one of their corpses disappearing? well, my headcanon is that for whatever unexplained reason, it has something to do with the death of the Motherdemon. the concept of disappearing corpses appears for the first time in Doom 64, where it happens occasionally as part of scripted sequences. since the attack in that game is led by a specific demon with a special rejuvenation power, I like to think the corpses disappear (back to hell/to a deeper part of hell) because of the motherdemon. after the motherdemon dies, some other demon (satan maybe) decides to just alter the spirituality makeup of demons so that this will happen every time one of them dies. since doomguy has killed so many at this point, Hell is doing the same thing the UAC had always been trying to do from the second game onward: trying to prevent another giant slaughter. so maybe satan or whoever, using the same mechanism used by the motherdemon, decides to immediately take back all demon corpses, in order to prevent doomguy from just wiping out Hell entirely.

another fun one: nothing has changed about the archvile, he is still resurrecting dead demons. it's just that the bodies disappear so its not as obvious, but I like to believe that every demon an archvile spawns, is an individual demon that you have already killed at some point in the game.

Which could easily be added, it's just that nobody's bothered to really do it.

Maybe that will now happen with the re-release.

As for trivia... well, key thing to remember is conjecture versus sourced notes. Anyone can put down trivia for anything, but someone doing their job will have a source or a link or something, or at the very least put down that it's community conjecture or something.

but the only problem is that even if someone adds it, apparently from what others here have said, it can take months for it to be approved, and it most likely wont be unless you are certified (according to the other commenters here)

Unapproved edits are not visible to guest users, only registered. If an edit was pending approval, you wouldn't have seen it until you made the account.

If you click a sub-edit button next to a section, you'll only see/be able to edit the text of that section. You either need to click the edit button of that relevant section, or the edit tab at the very top of the page.

that has to be the explanation! somebody else edited it in a while ago, but I didn’t make an account until then, so it didn’t show. and yes indeed i was logged out again when i went back to it.  you have cracked the case. this is awesome. thank you

No need to apologize :) I am not attacking you, i am just vehemently against Fandom's existence solely because some of its entries pop up higher on the Google SEO list than the official Wiki, meaning that Google, of all things, thinks Fandom is more relevant for certain subjects than the actual wiki.

This is especially annoying if the DoomWiki version actually has the accurate content. So you could argue that Fandom essentially promotes misinformation and does nothing to mitigate that issue (of which there are many).

That's the thing - you don't know if its accurate because nothing is verified.

''Just use adblock'' is mitigating the symptoms, not solving it. A proper Wiki should look semi-professional - Fandom is anything but professional by the way they handle things, how they handled the split, and how they handle entries.

If you could get DoomGuide to the Galaxy produced by id Software and you could get DoomGuide to the Galaxy produced by Randomness Incorporated, what would you pick? The official thing or the carbon copy?

I would always prefer the id Software one, especially when it has unique sections that Fandom does not have, like practically finished Amiga Doom representation, source modifications, accurate level description data, obscure factoids and so on.

Fandom is just a disjointed mess that's more the visual representation of something you would find in Roblox than an actual, professional knowledge base. Encyclopedia's exist precisely for that reason, not just to be another lollerskate centre of operations that's fused with oh so funny randomness.

the only thing i disagree with is the level information. fandom has a lot more trivia or other little things for the original trilogy levels, and then with doom 64 its actually filled out. for some reason on the real doomwiki, the majority of the doom 64 levels are completely missing sections like “statistics” and secrets, even though its a mainstream title (not fan-made) and has been out since 1997

This is utterly confusing to read.

It sounds like you tried to enter text in a subsection of an article, which is only possible if the article has subsections to begin with.

You also tried to do this in the mobile layout. My preference is to use the Desktop layout on mobile. Yes, it makes everything look extremely tiny but you can just zoom in. Atleast that way you can verify what additional errors may pop up. If an edit is not made in a set amount of time, it will throw an error that the session was not submitted. I am not sure if this also applies to unregistered users, though.

    7fnne.jpg

No. Just because it has complete sections does not mean they are accurate. Just because you found one entry that is not yet updated to spec does not mean going to Fandom is a reasonable alternative.

Fandom's overseers can care less about accuracy which is the whole point of a Wiki to begin with. Then, most of the reasons Edward mentioned apply: Shit layout, garbage ads (On a Wiki, really?), no quality control, and then some.

I am sorry that i react so strongly to this but we really need to end this idea that the Fandom is a reasonable alternative.

Likely because they are done specifically or by people who either are equally clueless that an actual Wiki exists or simply like to deal with garbage ads and a crappy layout.

I have offered to bring over what's useful to Wiki but it has to be presented. I am not going to look over all the things myself because i have far better things to do with my activity there, one of them being to correct my own spelling mistakes :P

You wonder what the big deal is and then you already present one reason as to why Fandom needs to dragged straight into a black hole.

PSA to all: Don't use Fandom if you care the slightest inch about the contributions you make or want to make.

oh wow okay, I apologize. i will not use fandom unless it is to carry info from it to the real wiki if I notice a stub
