    Best Megawad Soundtrack

BTSX 1/Eviternity would be my picks, but they're gonna get mentioned by a lot of people so I'm going to throw out Ozonia. Holy Jesus there's some good music in there. Honestly all of Deadwing's megawads have superb music.

What is the funniest thing you have read online?

This AI generated eulogy never fails to make me laugh.

    Best map pack(s) since Eviternity?

Unfortunately Valiant came out 3 years before Eviternity. It is good enough the bend time and space for though so I can't blame you for mentioning it.

    Best map pack(s) since Eviternity?

I think outside of this community, the Ashes 2063 series has blown up pretty significantly. If you go to a Boomer Shooter subreddit or Discord it gets brought up pretty regularly - for good reason. That said, it's not very Doom like. It plays a lot more like a Build Engine game than a Doom one. The thing is, there have been really amazing sets since Eviternity. However, they either aren't 32 map megawads (which I honestly think is to their benefit, 32 map megawads often have pacing issues and I do not think it should be the standard just because Doom 2 did it), and aren't nearly as immediately accessible. With that caveat out of the road, I'll list some wads I have personally loved since Eviternity that are mostly fairly accessible. They might not technically answer your question but hopefully they give you some cool stuff to play at least. Ozonia: Ozonia is one I think could be close to Eviternity given its looks and the fact that is has one of the best soundtracks around. However it starts a bit meaner, and isn't as consistent as Eviternity. Still amazing though. Nostalgia: Nostalgia might seem like a simple throwback megawad (I mean, it's named Nostalgia), but the true appeal is that myolden takes a lot of modern combat ideas and tones down the difficulty, making them feel at home in a 90's-esque package. Bellatrix: I have a real soft spot for when people who generally make insanely tough maps take the lessons they learned and make more accessible stuff. This is a much more exploratory set of maps, and the vibes are immaculate. Plus the shooting is still fun. Paradise: Paradise fucking rules. It introduced us to the amazing Supercharge mod in stunning fashion, with a gorgeous tropical setting and a soundtrack that hyoes you up for some arcadey action. Machete: My personal pick of the year so far. It's scythe 1 but a bit more modern. I really don't think I need to say more. Overboard: It's Mouldy's hyper-quirky follow up to Going Down. No one makes maps like him. They're a mix of batshit insane ideas, tough but mostly accessible combat, and random doom cute. The other stuff I have loved have either been more on the difficult side (Fractured Worlds, Haste, Micro Slaughter Community Project), Really fucking weird/niche (Time Tripper, Jumpwad), or they've been for heretic (sold soul is the best wad of the decade so far sue me).

    Unity goes full Unity

Definitely not just him: At the end of the day though, Unity is fucking with the profits of Nintendo, Genshin Impact, Microsoft, and Blizzard so if this goes through they are about to be sued off the fucking planet.

The Dean of Doom series (companion thread)

Yeah, can someone please actually cite the alleged personal attacks? I heard some mild ribbing at absolute worst.

    What are you listening to?

Listening to the first mix now. Goddamn this is good!

    What are you listening to?

Super late to the party, but Aphex Twin is rad I'm a huge music nerd in general but found that electronic music was a huge blindspot for me. With stuff like metal, hip hop, indie, folk, punk, etc. I know the subgenres and I know what I like and dislike. I decided to remedy that by listening to a lot of the bigger names and seeing what I enjoy. So far, I love Jungle, Ambient Drum and Bass, Trip Hop, and IDM - despite IDM having the dumbest fucking name imaginable. If there's any huge electronic music fans I'd absolutely love some suggestions.
  9. I like how you told someone off for not reading previous comments and then immediately claimed a slot I asked for lol.
  10. I'd love to snag map 18. if that's cool.
  11. Since it came out in the early 90s, it would be inspired by the hip hop of the early 90s. It could have gone the Wu-Tang route and been influenced by Eastern Martial arts and Samurai films, coming off like a video game version of Samurai Champloo. It could have gone a more Tupac, Ice Cube, NWA, or Snoop Dogg aesthetics and have it been a closer to something like GTA San Andreas but a boomer shooter. Or it could have gone the more drugged out, psychedelic hip hop of Cypress Hill and made something more abstract. Realistically though, any game inspired by hip hop would turn out vastly different to Doom, since Doom's DNA is rock and metal. It's fast, relentless, and gory. Those aspects exist in hip hop but they wouldn't hit the mainstream until 1997-99. Most games inspired by hip hop are inspired by cultures that are associated to the commercial appropriations of the genre - skating, cars, graffiti, and crime. Making a game truly inspired by hip hop would involve games getting political, and gamers don't seem to like that - especially when people of colour are involved.

Help finding specific types of WADs?

First: Try the Faithless trilogy for Heretic. It works a lot like that. There's also Abysm 1 and 2 which are total conversion mods inspired by Dark Souls and Diablo. If you like them there are also multiple expansions for Abysm 2! Second: Hurt. All stock textures and it looks gorgeous! Third: Overboard and Going Down - both by Mouldy. Also Infested. These all tick both the silly and surreal boxes. They're some of the most fun and smile inducing wads for Doom!

    How tall are you ?

165cm, or 5'5". I think I did the conversion right there?
  14. They responded to me a month after my post. The dev had already helped me with the situation.

    Good Mods For Mappers?

This thread is inspired by @baja blast rd.'s similar thread, and also seeing cool stuff like the MBF21 Expanded DOOM Bestiary project pop up recently. Basically just what it says on the tin, I want to see gameplay altering mods that were either created specifically for mappers or are mapper friendly enough to use in projects. For instance, Supercharge - or outside of Doom, there's Wayfarer for Heretic. -Sorry for the extremely poor grammar on display here, my brain is struggling to word good.

    Good Mods For Mappers?

Oh damn I'll have to give that a look!
  17. Three of these came out last year. Not only that, but they either received or were mentioned in the cacowards writeup. Of the three you did post, one of them was having people discussing how we didn't need any more mentions for it literally right above your post. Also six is a lot to mention here. In the future, I recommend reading the threads you're posting in before you comment. Also, do the tiniest bit of research before posting things. That way your contributions will be far more meaningful and people will take you a bit more seriously :)
  18. Real simple rule: Read the posts above you and if the wad you like has been mentioned more than 3 times you don't need to add to it. I don't mind something getting mentioned a few times because then it shoots to the top of my list like "damn this is hot right now I should check it out." However when it gets mentioned too much it has the potential to make people flat out resent it - which hopefully isn't the desired outcome.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

I didn't mean in terms of graphics. I guess my gut reaction was "that looks generic af." Like there wasn't anything to hook me on the steam page. If it wasnt for guys talking about it on discord I wouldn't have given it a second look. Cruelty Squad and Nightmare Reaper are ugly, but in an interesting way. They have an identity.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Herald of Havoc looks like absolute garbage but trust me it's one of the best Boomer Shooters out. It actually reminds me of level concepts you'd see in the doom mapping scene. It's challenging and changes between classic feeling boomer shooter levels, more combat puzzle oriented stuff, and all out slaughter fests. The levels are short and incredibly moreish though. Highly recommend.
  21. Hey, this is really damn good - maybe my favourite thing I've played this year. I don't have anything else to add, just wanted to let you know this is still being played and enjoyed because I know it helps :)

What is your favorite rapper/Hip Hop artist

Aes is top 3 for me. Impossible Kid is my all time fav album though. The theme of coming out of a decade long trauma/depression haze and trying to work out what the fuck to do with your life now just speaks to me. Also sorry for posting twice in a row, didn't know how to reply in an edit.
  23. Changes all the time so I'll try not to overthink it: Aesop Rock: The Impossible Kid Agalloch - The Mantle The Strokes - Is This It? Death Grips - The Money Store Open Mike Eagle - Dark Comedy Nirvana - In Utero Earl Sweatshirt - I don't Like Shit, I don't go outside. Billy Woods - Hiding Places Cult of Luna - Mariner Leprous - Coal
  24. I 100% agree on her getting out of that relationship. Was mostly concerned for her safety meeting the guy tbh since they'd never met in real life and I was especially worried if it was his idea for her to save up the money etc. The strangeness was just how out of the blue it was, and just how we all had no idea how to react at first. I haven't been on WoW in a while so I don't know how it ended up.
