My embittered assault on doom 3 (hint: I’m pissed.)

That camera man is your FACE which is currently the imp's BITCH. Deal with it. Blood splatter works well for this, although I don't know how long it lasts. I agree, although they really hurt me more than I'd like to admit. Not a bad idea. I don't know what to say about this. One thing you miss in a game that you have in real life is a sense of where you've been and where you're going. I think games should supplement with something but I don't know what. I call it realism at the expense of stupidity getting your ass whooped. I can understand what you're getting at but there's never a point when you absolutely need to get to your PDA asap so I can't think of a reason you shouldn't be able to clear the room you're in first. In Spiderman 2 the doc throws a car at Peter when he's supposed to capture him and find out who spider man is. If Peter wasn't spider man, he'd be dead on the spot. Rant about that for a few ;) I agree that the weapon sounds need lots of work. I'd say that for every FPS currently released. This is the "GAH!" factor. The question is, is it too fast to dodge? It isn't. That eliminates the scare factor, no? Don't they? I thought I've been relying on the fireballs to see them.

    Sub-par sound effects

Personally I think of pink little elephants and magic brownies when I hear the plasma rifle fire. How would I replace it?

    Former Marines

I like how the fireballs respond to gravity. It adds a kinda third dimension to dodging. In some situations you otherwise wouldn't be able to dodge you now can, and in others when you would be able to you now can't. As for the marines, yes I think it's really cool that they dodge everything I do to them. However, as for the marines, I think it's really shity that they dodge everything I do to them. You read that right.

    Penny Arcade "Review"

Would someone post it again when the site comes out of the shitter? Thanks ;)
  5. *Sure don't think this is a spoiler, not for anyone who's seen a horror movie* You're not the least bit scared after looking in a mirror in a bathroom?

    Greatly speed up Doom3 performance

Perhaps levels are further subdivided for various textures/models so that people with lower ram don't have issues. Maybe if you have a lot of ram it will only effect the level load time because of this. Maybe?

    No CO-OP?

I remember reading that coop would be in the game. This would have been a few months ago (not more than I year I believe), although the article could have been dated. I believe it gave the coop intentions to be like halo.

    Doom4?

I mean an RPG/FPS combination of sorts.

    Doom4?

RPG idea doesn't sound bad. It seemed to me the commentary in the Doom 3 video stated plain on: This is the last doom, and the current quake under production is the last quake. A large amount of the staff doesn't like Quake at all, but it's obviously not fiscally responsible to not make it now that they have the engine for it. It seems the staff prefers single player, at least not mindless quake (I'm not condeming quake-- most multiplayer fps are mindless). Maybe an RPG is in their future. I don't dare say the MMORPG word. Oops I did. Well I really doubt that's their plan and I really hope it isn't as well. From playing MMPORGs all I can say is no matter how good your intentions are neither technology nor people are sophisticated enough at this point to handle it.

    illegal?

Correct me if I'm wrong (for those who don't know me, that means I'm right) but a synchronous world wide release would cut down on warez, possibly dramatically. I can't go out and buy the game right now, but I can download it. That makes downloading it tempting. By having places release the game a couple days early this effect still exists, just to a lesser amount. I've already seen "anyone with a ftp want doom 3....msg me".

Whew, *relaxes* [Not really a spoiler]

I prefer a 2-layer quicksave. You know you'll save it when you think there isn't a baron behind you about to bite your head off. Still, cheers.

3 days 6 hours MY ASS!

I'd like to see a screen shot of you getting shat on by a donkey, preferably in magic-eye format.

    Uk doom fans

Not only is that page a 404, but if you click on their "refering" link, that gives a doomworld 404. Simply amazing.

Will Doom 3 work on Win ME?

Does calculator work on Windows ME? No, seriously. Every time I hit log I see a BSOD. :P

    800x600/AA or 1600x1200?

Well real life has jagged edges. Sure they're smaller than pixels, but to me simply blurring the screen isn't the answer. I have a card powerful enough to play older games in AA but it just doesn't look right. Anyway if your graphics card isn't powerful enough to blur the screen you can do the same thing by mauling your monitor cable with a screwdriver. I'm seriously not kidding at all. You'll just have to flip cords between game and non-game, or else feel sick in your OS UI.

Robert Duffy says "1 gig of memory great for Doom 3"

I got 16 megs of pc 100 and a 2mb matrox card. bring it on.

    "bathroom scene" still in?

Thanks a lot. You've displayed intimate knowledge that proves you have leaked code from Duke Nukem Forever. I'm afraid you've pushed it back at least two years.

Doom 3 "automatically chooses display settings"

I thought many games did this now. They read your card, assign a performance to it, then give you default settings which are better or worse depending on your card. I don't see why anyone else has a problem with this.

It'll Be a Cold Day in Hell

What's next, some massive multi-million dollar TC-like endeaver for Doom that adds new levels, monsters, bumpmapping, lighting effects, a new sound track AND comes on a CD?

The fate of Arachrotron / S-Mastermind

They could have a spider mastermind 9r mutliple, just put them in rooms designed specifically for them as not to cause any visual glitches. (All's hoping)

    New Interviews About Doom... 3

Well actually hold on a second... Does anyone know what the BFG does in Doom3? One of my many Doom 2 mods was a BFG that flew through walls and pretty much killed everthing in its path for the entire distance in the level. Fun as hell, but not something you want in multiplayer. It could be the BFG is much more badass than before, but from what they are saying it doesn't sound like it... Benefit of the doubt?

    Trent Reznor Clarifies Involvement

Hey some of the Doom2 music is great-- it's just poorly composed midi. I don't remember the level numbers or names, and doom 2 (blasphemy) is not on this computer so I can't poke around the wad at the moment.
