  4. Ralph Vickers got mad, and the Orlando Magic got even.

Trailing by 10 points at halftime and facing an unlikely 3-1 deficit, the Magic came out of the locker room with a postseason purpose and ambushed the Utah Jazz with a huge third quarter. After grabbing the lead, they never looked back en route to a 55-49 victory that evened their first-round series at two games each.

As they have been for long stretches of this series, the Magic were flat in the first half, trailing by as many as 14 points. A frustrated Vickers picked up a technical foul just before halftime, which ended with the Jazz holding a 19-29 lead.

William Koch scored 32 points and John Stockton added 17 for the Jazz, who return to Orlando for Game 5 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on MAME TV.

No but really, who's interested in joining an NBA Jam league and falling to Ralph Vickers and the Orlando Magic?

  5. my home state, Pennsylvania, fell to Hillary Clinton. Sorry guys, it looks like the anti-Doom, pro-Thompson censorship nut has taken another state. Here's to proof that the US government is becoming a nothing more than warring 'new rich' families. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton. Okay, Clinton may not be the true definition of "new rich" but still. It's just a series of dynasties. It's kind of pissing me off.

The funniest thing about Obama and Hillary is that, when it comes down to it, they do not really have any significant differences in policy. At all. They are both the same, but it ultimately boils down to how well they can spout their line of bullshit and suck up to such and such crowds / social groups / causes / concerns / businesses / minorities / members of one of the three major Abrahamic religions (fuck Hindus, amirite).

If you like Obama, you essentially like Hillary too, because they are the same. That is why, if you do see ads based on differences in policy, they probably won't mention the fact that it's one small part of their similar policies but they disagree with a small detail here and there. Most ads will be about political character ("Barack thinks you're bitter" "Hillary is like Bush, she doesn't care about black people!")

  6. Thanks to my extremely simple lifestyle (I go out only once every two months or so (and even then it's just a family restaurant) and I can only think of two small things I've bought in the last two years other than necessities), since coming to Japan most of my income has been sitting in a bank collecting little more than dust (than which I wouldn't be surprised if the crap interest was less valuable) today I broke 1,000,000 yen in my savings, in spite of my low income (working 3 hours a day freelance and answering to no one means much more to me than having tons of disposable income).

A few days ago I suddenly realized how much money I was accumulating, and started to think and research what I could do with it. Then, today, after ceremoniously depositing the contents of my coin bank and topping the magic number, I withdrew the whole lot and sent it off to a mutual fund (Vanguard) in the US before I had a chance to reconsider and remember all the things I've always wanted to splurge on.

I'd never seen (much less owned) so much currency, and I was sweating tapping my foot like a nervous criminal at the bank. I found myself riding unusually slow from the bank to the post office, almost as if it would bother me more to crash and die with such wealth in my bag than to die with it in the bank.

Long story short, I arrived home just now with less than 3000 yen to my name, and I hope someday my sickly 59.5 year old self will thank me (hopefully coming back to do so in a Delorean right about... now!)

  9. when you search for a file in google directly with exact file name and you got it

then the next day you need it on a different computer then search for it then suddenly there's only one match and it's a broken link like GODDAM THE FILE IS GONE FOREVER?

I do and I hate this feeling a lot. Sometimes Google sucks so much I have to use something else.

    Post lost files stories.

  10. Yeah, I got inspired today to become an author alongside being a gunsmith, obviously the topics would be 1) gunsmithing and 2) guns in particular. Needless to say, I want to write about Goddamn guns as well as build them. So yeah, uh, I guess that's just another thing I am tacking on the 5 Year Plan list.

    I might write fiction too under a pen-name :-P

  11. I was feeling destructive, which usually occurs when work is being a bitch and I die one to many times in TF2. So I shaved my head. It's cold and feels funny.

Next Week: A tattoo/piercing/shaving other things/more shaving cream.

  12. I was wondering why there were 5 squad cars and an ambulance across the street last night. Now I just heard what happened.

My neighbor across the street is a retired officer. He was an officer for our neighboring town. Over the past 5 years since he moved in he has had a huge problem with people riding snowmobiles through his property. We all have had this problem.

People on snowmobiles have driven through our front yards and even done circles in our front yards. Just to prove that they can I suppose.

However, snowmobiles have made a path in his back yard. There is a well known snowmobile path that ran in back of his fenceline, but when he bought the house he extended the fenceline to cover his entire property. The property is 2 acres, and originally the fence only covered 1 acre. At the end of the 2 acres is a river.

Even though he put up a fence, amazingly each winter his fence is broken and snowmobiles drive through. He mends the fence, the fence breaks. He even put up a chain link fence 2 years ago. Some how some way the fence always seems to come down.

So he put up a custom sign that reads, "People on snowmobiles will be shot." Instead of tresspassers will be shot.

Last night he shot one of them at around 10 pm. There were 6 snowmobilers caught by my neighbor pulling down the chain link fence and so my neighbor shot into them. The man he shot survived; at least for now.

The cops were called, the ambulance was called. My neighbor was taken in by the police. He is still with the police.

    I found this interesting.

Maybe the shooting part was excessive, but just out of curiosity, does anyone honestly believe that a more rational approach would have stopped them repeatedly tearing down his fence? Lately I find myself lacking any sympathy whatsoever for mindless, aggressive youths acting like feral animals, so maybe my opinion is a bit biased.

Actually, the rational approach would be to install a camera used to take photographs of deer and other wildlife, one that is camouflaged. They take great quality photographs even in low-light conditions. Put up no trespassing signs, install a stronger fence and ask police or conservation officers to patrol your land routinely to catch trespassers. Being a cop, he could have done the last a lot more easier than a civilian can.

This almost happened to my uncle and his friend on a four-wheeler. They confronted the home-owner and pretty much said "dude, we could have you arrested for attempted murder." but he took it down so they didn't.

  14. I have a friend. A very good looking friend. I have known this friend for 15 years. We are both in our 20s. In movies this happens all the time, the great looking female friend and the dorky male friend.

After 15 years of her chasing men that were douchebags, players or just evil. She now wants me. Instead of being happy about this, I'm offended and don't want her :-)

So how does that work? Maybe it's all about the chase. Like you want something until you get it. Then you don't want it. I have just felt this way over the past month. I can't post a myspace blog about it, cause she reads them.

OR...you could man up and pretty much...explain the situation to her. Maybe you can work around this and start something meaningful.

This guy is a piece of shit. I'm pretty sure a baseball bat and some harsh words would have sent them away without really having to resort to violence, and if it did escalate to violence, you could control the amount of force applied better with a baseball bat than with a gun. What a fucking shithead.

I'm not a big 2nd amendment advocate myself, but I know some girls (and guys) in the states who carry knives for self defense. The fact is, if they didn't have knives (or pepper spray in the case of some girls), their assailent would. I don't believe that argument always works (it is commonly used with guns) but bad guys are more likely to have knives than guns anyway. You dont need a permit for a knife. Of course if you dont know how to handle knives it may be taken from you and then your doubly screwed. In the end self defense training (even a basic level) would suffice IMO since it sets you above the average desperate mugger. I recommend boxing and jiu-jitsu.. both are quick and dirty, one for hand to hand and one for ground fighting. More complex martial arts are great but only if you train nonstop for decades. If you want something that you can learn and benefit from faster and martial arts aren't your main interest, don't waste time learning most karate styles (unless you learn karate because you enjoy it.. dont expect to benefit from it self-defense-wsie though unless you are truly serious and no, Tiger Stripmall Shodokon is not karate)

yeah that became a rant :P

One of my Uni lecturers was robbed at knifepoint 2 days ago.

      It's a pretty large problem.

Yeah, but if he and other citizens could legally carry a semi-lethal / non-lethal weapon to protect himself, like say a telescoping baton or pepper spray, a thief would think twice before trying to rob a guy on a stroll or whatever. Sure, if they come up behind you, you're screwed, and in some situations, it's better to just lose your money than risk attacking your mugger. Personally, I am glad I at least have the option to carry something like a 9mm or a .357 to protect myself if I ever had to. I don't think I'd shoot somebody that was robbing me at knife-point, though, unless they were obviously fucked up on some sort of drug.

  18. A friend of mine was shot dead two days ago. The day he was shot it was on the news but they didn't disclose who he was. Only thing they mentioned was that he was well known to police. Then yesterday they announced his name, city he's from and age. We weren't close friends and I hadn't seen him in quite sometime. I was not surprised of his death, as the life he lead was what brought about his demise.

He's mentioned in old blog entry here kicking off the mirror of a moving Dodge Viper:

    http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26229

He was essentially a career criminal more or less. Mostly theft of all kinds, drugs, and the occasional assault. He made many enemies over the years and ultimately paid the price. He didn't die where he was shot so there is still speculation as to what transpired. I suspect either the long list of people he fucked over caught up with him and somebody got payback, or he was shot trying to rob a house or raid a marijuana grow operation.

Confucius say "Fuck around and get fucked."

Nice Nagant. I have an m44 carbine version, I've been looking to get one of the 91/30's though, excellent military rifle. And you have to respect the 7.62x54R.

If you're looking for an excellent quality M91/30, I have to recommend Classic Arms Inc., they are awesome. Speedy service, honest staff. I paid $10 extra for them to hand select my rifle, on the invoice was written "picked out a real nice one! - *name*" and I agree, this one was beyond their advertised "excellent" condition and broke into "amazing" condition territory. So, yes, there are a few visible dings in the hardwood stock, but this rifle has been floating around the world for 80 years. The metal parts are what really count, and they are in PRISTINE condition, and the cosmoline has already been cleaned off and removed from the stock as well.

      Hardwood round receiver Mosin M91/30 - $79
      Hex hardwood M91/30 - $89
      Laminated stock round receiver M91/30 - $89

These prices are pretty damn good, and that includes the bayonet and accessories (which may require handwashing in a sink to clean the cosmoline off. The accessory packs probably have not been opened since they were tossed in there in the 50s, 60s and 70s when they were arseneled out.

Personally, I wanted a hex receiver since they are slightly rarer, but laminated stocks are more rugged than hardwood, so I am probably going to buy a laminated round receiver M91/30 next time.

I might just save up the extra cash and buy their hard-chromed M44 carbine before I buy another M91/30
