Are Heretic-N demos still available anywhere?

Hello Opulent. Sorry, I actually didn't know that the demos would end before the score screen on another port, I just thought they wouldn't work at all. I set up DosBox and tried to test the game (and the demos) and they worked just fine.

Are Heretic-N demos still available anywhere?

Hey ZeroMaster, thanks for the info. I tried to playback one of my old demos (recorded with the original .exe + vv's hack), and it worked just fine. I still have to try some other demos and make sure it's fine, but that's great. I think the opposite should work as well. Man, I was doing so bad on the Smite-meister skill level demos. If I get some free time, I'll try to improve some of these demos. EDIT: Tried 2 other demos, and they worked too, but something I noticed is that the score screen is not being shown, and the demo ends as soon as the player finishes the level.

Are Heretic-N demos still available anywhere?

It's amazing to see people are still going after these demos. I really appreciate that, and I'm pretty sure Vincent and the others do too. We worked hard to get them done. Reading this thread made me wanna play again, even though I'm busy now and I also don't have a Win 98 computer anymore. Are there any source ports for heretic that can keep compatibility with the original exec for demo recording? That'd be great. PS: Reading those txt files made me embarrassed by how bad my English was back then (it still is, but not as much as before XD).
  4. Mmmmm a heretic addon... I'm very busy by these days with my CCW but ammmm I think I'll try it... judging by other people's comments it must be very good... wish I had the creativity to build maps for heretic... anyway, I'll give it a go when I get some free time... cya... and nice work!!

Yay!! Got message from James Monroe (programmer of Strife)

Ok Quasar, thank you very much for these explanations, I will just reply him saying thanks for the good will, and won't bother him with anymore details...
  7. Hey guys, here's what I had sent to him: From: Bruno Vergílio [mailto:brunodeovergilio@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 02, 2009 8:06 PM To: GRP RAVENSOFT www Subject: A letter for JAMES MONROE, from a big fan, I beg you for reading Hi Guys. My name is Bruno. I'm from Brazil and I'm 21 years old, and I still have a big love for old games... one of them is strife... I know it's NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, but, I know that james monroe was the programmer of strife, and when I discovered that he was still working with games, I told myself to take my chances and try to contact him... so James, this letter is for you: I'd just like to have a little support about strife... I mean, we know that the source has been lost, but as a programmer, you never forget some lines of code hehe, so, I'd like to ask you to help the guys at doomworld forums (us) to decypher some lines of code and some functions, just in case you remember them... we have made such a big progress porting strife, so we would like to see it fully compatible with the old exe... I mean, demo recordings and all the other functions and codepointers... We would love to hear something from you, even if you answer saying that you can't help, but please, I beg you, talk to us... you love games as much as we do, otherwise you wouldn't be programming games for all this time, so please help us to keep alive what was a great game in the old days, help us port them to windows and other systems... I hope you read my message, and sorry for the bad english and for the missunderstandings... THANK YOU IN ADVANCE !!!! BRUNO DÉO VERGÍLIO Here's his answer: fromMonroe, James <JMonroe@ravensoft.com> tobrunodeovergilio@gmail.com cc"Peters, Nathan" <NPeters@ravensoft.com> dateThu, Jun 25, 2009 at 3:15 PM subjectRE: A letter for JAMES MONROE, from a big fan, I beg you for reading Hi. I'm glad you're still loving Strife. It was a long time ago, but I'd be happy to try to answer any questions you have. It was based off the doom source code, so there is a lot of info out there about the code structure. Now it would be nice if we could collect some questions from the guys who are messing with strife (Graf Zahl, Kaiser, Quasar etc), and send to him... he may knows some of them =D !!!

Well, I can try to email Raven and ask for some questions, but just don't know some of these, so, Quasar, give me a list of questions about this gpl stuff (I don't understand it much, sorry) so that I can send them to him... I'll send some more too... about the source code, who is this guy kaiser talked with? maybe I can talk with him too... for now I'll try to get any emails from raven guys that worked up with strife... let's what I can get from them...

Mmmm Thanks for the info Quasar... I hope you get to these remaining functions very soon, good luck... ammmm, one thing... I'm pretty sure someone already had this idea, but, I hope it's not dumb... http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,9814/ This link sends to the page of JAMES MONROE, the guy who programmed strife, looks like he's still working on games, and is working at raven's... so ammmm, would it be possible to email raven or even him, and ask for some info!? I know it's been already 13 years, but he may remember some stuff you may have missing... so, it's just an idea, if it's too dumb sorry, but that's all I could come up with... cya!!

You're the man, Quasar!!! I'm glad you're figuring these functions out... ammmm, btw, I'd like to know something... 1) How many more functions/codepointers (still don't know what codepointers are) are missing?! 2) If you could say a value, from 1% to 100%, regarding the strife engine status, how many would it be!? I mean, how many % is already known from the engine... and what's still left to discover... Thank you for keeping up the great work on such a great game!!!

Community Chest Series Demos [-complevel 9]

Hi guys, I'm ressurrecting this old topic... I recorded map 23 uv max, ugly demo but I'm posting it anyway, but comments would be nice... I'd like to record more and record better, but just didn't got much time... maybe on december after I end my third year at the university... see ya... [Boom compat demo] c3231443.zip
  13. Something I forgot to note... well, in fact, i wanna ask... mmmm for maps such as e3m8, e4m8 and e5m8, especially in e5m8, well playing these on nightmare, things get really hard, so it would be nice for example, to have tons of ammo, and, ARTIFACTS too... for example, for e5m8 2 rings of invulnerability, or something like that... that would be nice for nightmare recording... it's just an idea...
