Decided to put all my released maps listed out on my About Me here on DW... Still a very short list but i hope to at least double it still this year!
-
For anyone interested in joining: I've started an MBF21 community project! Or well, i already did 15 days ago, but the deadline is October 1st so there's still plenty of time for it :)
You can find a link for it here, and/or check the Trello workspace (which will be frequently updated) to see how the progress is going and who's joined so far. Below are a few screenshots of the two maps i made for it so far, to showcase the theme of the project a bit better:
SpoilerAnd reminder that i have a discord server!! And it has a channel for this project there as well if you'd prefer that.

Your profile pic is too adorable i love it!!

Mausoleum Nefarium, a project i made a map for (the one on the top right in the image below), has just released!! Please give it a shot :)
especially because i only release 2 maps per year apparently
-
I'm guessing the answer is no, but does anyone know of any wad that used the start menu automatic demo display to make some sort of an intro cinematic? Because i think that'd be awesome
-
I've got a very specific question: Anyone here aware of any mapsets (and i do mean mapsets, not single maps) where every map feels like it could be a finale?
I've got a hunch that i find it hard to finish wads of multiple maps because even if they build up to something, they do so slowly enough that it's barely noticeable if at all, but i can only be sure if i actually do play a mapset that isn't like that, but i'm aware of exactly 0 wads that are like this...

Sorry for being a bit spammy with the status updates lately... But i decided to open a discord server for Doom related stuff, to show off my projects in a bit more organized manner, and to hopefully be able to interact with people a bit easier without having to be active in all those other Doom servers (which i fail miserably at already lol).
Here's the invite for anyone interested!! I'd be happy to have even a few people in :)

Did you know! Dehextra greatly increases the limits of MBF dehacked and allows you to realistically have as many things as you want, as well as more elaborate enemies and bosses with multiple phases? And that this format is compatible with most popular sourceports???
I'll post a really cool multi-phase enemy me and @duskless have been working on in that format to this thread later, hopefully to show people how powerful it is, and how you don't need to jump straight into MBF21/DSDHacked to make cool and impressive stuff, especially now that Whacked 4 supports it!
-
While WhackEd is still useful for checking out the stock dehacked code, DECOHack is extremely useful for writing modern advanced dehacked codes. I've been using it to write MBF21 dehacked codes for the upcoming project, and I'm satisfied with it.
-
That's true, though with me being completely uninterested in programming (it just drains the fun out of Doom for me) and dusk just starting out, it works well enough for us. I think Whacked will always have its niche of appealing to those who hate coding, or just don't have any knowledge/experience in it

Working on my most (visually) ambitious map to date, and it's somehow both going to be just a map01 to a wad AND already done in just about 10-15 days (currently on the 7th or so), feeling very excited!!!
-
Listening to all the midipacks from last year might just be slowly pulling me out of this horrible phase of burnout, god damn
The NRFTL and Ultimate Doom midi packs are probably my faves out of them all by a lot, too

Burnout, begone! *shakes fist*

Currently working on a (new) map for the first time in two months!! Hopefully this marks the end of the burnout
-
im glad to hear that!!!

I've been gone for a little while now huh?
A few months ago i was suffering a lot from stress when working on my maps, comparing myself to everyone around me, thinking that i would never be able to get to that point and that i was making progress too slowly in comparison to everyone else i look up to in the community, causing me to no longer enjoy making maps.
It was only after a month or two of self-reflection and trying to look at things a bit more rationally that i reminded myself... It might not seem/feel like it, but i only really started at this somewhere around June of last year, and i'm simply doing this to myself, because all of those people i keep comparing myself to have been at this for close to a decade, if not more!
So i think what other people can get from this is that i made the decision to keep making these and keeping them to myself. I feel extremely flattered when someone DMs me and asks where they can download those maps or when they're coming out, and you people who have done that have given me a lot of motivation to keep pushing through even when i was bringing myself down, but i think it'll take a while for the stuff i'm actually proud of to ever get released. I can't really tell yet when i'm going to release any of the maps i'm currently working on, but at the very least i'll guarantee you that they'll be worth the wait :)
Despite a few bumps in the road we've had throughout this year, i'm really glad to be in this community. You guys are great <3
SpoilerPS: PRCP2 is a project i have actually submitted a map for, which i'm really proud of! Go check out/playtest my map before the 1.0 release if you haven't already :D
-
Oh man, if i keep up at this pace i'll probably have this short episode fully playable before the end of the year! I might still do a looot of polishing before a proper release (i want to be proud of my first standalone project for years to come) but this still makes me really excited! :D

Since GZDoom 4.6.0, that port hass been so optimized that now i don't see any reason to not work with it anymore, and man i've missed this port SO MUCH. Working on my first map again has injected me with some enthusiasm i hadn't felt for mapping in a long, long while.

Just found out about this wad recently through the DSDA Twitch streams and now i'm baffled that nobody talks about it! It uses Shadow of the Colossus and Alice in the Wonderland textures, you play as a Blood cultist with crazy preacher themed weaponry and somehow has randomized level starts? Also a lot of fun to play!
Here's the idgames link if anyone wants to give it a try (which you should): https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/p-r/preacher

Thank's, Matt! :DD

Yeah, there really is a tremendous amount of good maps out there that 'do not get the recognition' they might 'deserve'. There's just so much good stuff, so many different ways of marketing them and so little time. I hope to give this one some playthrough love in the future, it looks great.
-
IcarusLives featured it on his channel a while back, that's how I found out about it. It's a really overlooked gem.

Turns out taking small breaks here and there from big projects can be good for your mental health, who woulda thought!
-
By far the best profile pic i've seen on Doomworld so far lmao
-
I love your new pfp!
-
It seems there are so many upcoming big community projects this year, and i've got nowhere near enough time for them...
-
You know what... I was making tons of textures for an EE community project to give it a more original look... But since it's taking so long, i might just assemble a resource pack from a lot of the stuff posted in this thread and start working on that bitch. I'll just save these custom textures for a future project instead.
No reason for it to take this long anyways, right??
-
Finally brought my PRCP2 submission to a point that i'm really happy with it, and so it's my very first fully finished map :D
-
Mildly pleasing to the eyes avatar is no more, for i have created the most obnoxious looking avatar ever. Now do i call myself FireFright or MattBlu?
-
Not eye-hurting enough.
1/10
-
FireFright sounds like a straight-up cool name, I'd pick that. Then again, MattBlu doesn't sound so bad either...
I remember seeing someone a while ago having a rapidly flashing comic as their profile pic, which was much more annoying to look at. Your profile pic on the other hand has merely a tasteful annoyance to it :P

I've noticed that these "[insert engine here] Aesthetics" accounts on Twitter are popping up but i didn't see a single one for Doom, so i made one! Do check it out or send any screenshots you may have if you're interested: https://twitter.com/DoomEnginePics
