6 months a joke? Here'a little quote from the Hellcore site... "After nearly 7 years of the project being put on and off hold, the Hellcore Team has decided to try to finish it once and for all!" 7 years!!!! Hahahahahahahaha, now that's a joke. Seriously though it would be great to see Hellcore finished. -
Agreed, there's some absolutely beautiful work there. Graf Zahl's points... "I had the feeling it's all rooms or hallways with an excessive amount of hidden rooms and traps filled with monsters that open at the most inappropriate time. " Surely, in essence this is what Doom is all about. "IMHO one of the most overrated WADs of all time. " We respect your opinion but Doom is a game, a game to be played and AV is most highly rated amongst the top players of the game and that should be respected too. I.E. maybe there's something there that you're missing, watch some of the Compet-n lmps and see how they deal with being surrounded by 20/30 monsters. There are levels upon levels of skill in playing Doom (one of the reasons for it's longevity) and those levels can only be realised by overcoming the challenges the game has to offer. Yes the difficulty of wads such as HR and AV on UV can piss you off but that's part of the learning/understanding process...after all nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Definitely not dead, we're so close now. I'm just doing the difficulty settings for map29 now, won't be long. -
MBF with PRBoom a close second. 'I agree but without mouselook a mouse is useless anyway so I don't care.' Oh dear.

Structurly Map29 is pretty much done. I'm inhabiting it and testing it myself ready for playtesting, no small job, heh. It should have over 1k monsters. Should be done within the week. -
DO IT! You're absolutely correct, if there's one way to reduce a game's gameplay value and lots of hard work in making and designing it it's to make cheats too easily accessible. I'm talking God mode here btw not freelook which should be the player's choice unless it really affects the gameplay big time.

Saturday's a bit more difficult for me as I sometimes work that evening but if you change it I'll be there when I can.

This is true.:)

Yep it was fun but the pressure's on from the outset, 100mins flys by an' ya don't have much time to think. I remembered the walkways through the nukage though, but I didn't really have time to put E4 features, heh.

3DO version was easily the worst, super low fps. Saturn is slow but still playable, I played it recently. Even though the PSX and N64 lack a lot in certain areas they both have strengths that even the PC game don't have and they're eminently playable...But Pritch I gotta agree, Motherdemon wtf!

Thanks Deep for such a comprehesive explanation, that explains all. I wanted the wad to be playable with Boom and Legacy so I did cut the size a little to bring it under the seg limit, it just meant one or two areas weren't as detailed as they would've been, I was happy with the result. Thanks for playing through the map Guru, I hope you enjoyed it and yes it is tough one. There's a lmp at my page on a slightly earlier version (small cosmetic difference) under misc if you're interested. Yes there can be slowdown in that final area on even reasonable comps but it plays with no slow down on my latest machine which is pretty quick.:) Btw I'm up to 15000 linedefs on my latest map.

Whoops, my bad, confused the posts I thought you were refering to the ssg.
-
What 'pump-action shotgun'?
-
I released a map some months ago in which I hit the segment limit, I couldn't build any further as a result and ended up modifying the map to be able to finish it. I did post asking if there was any way around this or if there was a way to reduce segs by any simple means with no real result....magikal.supanet.com/cata.zip]Catastrophe. Could I have got around this Deep?

Could be something to do with the fact it's now 2003, ahem. Boom is without doubt their most important contribution imo but I luv all of their megawads and associated works i.e. Plutonia. An interesting history with the merger of Team Eternal & Team TNT as regards Eternal but I'm sure glad they did, the more I play that wad the more I like it, its' atmosphere is something else, absolutely supurb. Dadaelus...can't wait.:)
