  1. I hope this is the right place to ask but.... This may seem an odd question but since I have neither of those systems, I would like to know how you run a wad on the Mac and Linux versions of GZDoom. Since I know, namely Macs, do not use .exe files, and GZDoom you typically drag your wad over the .exe so.... how do you run it with Mac? And if Linux is any different, how do you run wads on that too? The reason I ask is my brother and I are going to make our first TC for the so bad it's good game jam this year, and whilst we're using the batch file method to run the TC (with Freedoom as our iwad), that would be Windows only, so I just want to know the instructions for the other two operating systems so we'll be able to provide Mac and Linux versions of the game. We have no means of testing this, so hopefully any Mac and Linux users could enlighten us on the subject! Thanks in advanced! ^^

    Oldest game you've actually enjoyed.

If we're talking about games I actually have in my house.... Sega Genesis games--- Golden Axe 1-3 Streets of Rage Sonic 1&2 PC Games--- Star Wars: Dark Forces If we can include games that I've played at an arcade, then Pac-Man of course, and Invaders, and Qbert, and an array of different fighting games like Capcom vs. SnK (I think I ended up buying that for PS1 though), one of the Street Fighter games, etc. any I may not remember but I had fun with them. Out of all this, I have the fondest memories playing Golden Axe (1-2, could not play 3 until I got it on a PS2 collection) since those are the first video games I ever played, and I still love them today. My brother and I must not have matured, because when we play together we STILL fight over those mounts! And for Streets of Rage, I played that a lot with my dad until my thumbs hurt lol. Good times.

    Poetry of the Doomworld

A poetry thread! I love poetry and have been writing some since I was a pre-teen, and still love to write some now and then. This is one I wrote back in 2020 for NaPoWriMo..... Raindrop Dance Water falls from the sky Gently soaking the ground The edges drip at their tips Raindrops dance upon its grip All the clouds silently burst Into a brilliant rainfall Are they tears? And if they are Is it joy or sorrow fall? A beautiful array Of raindrops Tap, tap, tap as they fall A cleansing smell wafts through the air A precious cold bites the skin Hear the sky's soft melody Lulling you into peaceful sleep Gently it falls Amongst a dull lighting of grey And muted hue of blue Let the dance of the raindrops And ballad of the sky Wash away all your tears A fluffy cloud's lullaby

How often do you play the original IWADs?

It' sort of on and off. They're perfect to play with a new mod, so often if I find a cool mod I will run it over DOOM II. I do go back and play it without any mods though when I want to go through from start to finish. I not too long ago went through episodes 1 and 2 of DOOM, need to finish 3, and after that I will play 4 and finish up with Sigil.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Currently, checking out a bunch of really old Ren'Py games from way before even I started using the program. Playing these older VNs is really something else, it just has this vibe that is so different from modern Ren'Py games coming out these days. I love the more amatuerish style and the stories and it just felt incredibly indie and just... it's hard to explain, they are all really good and definitely felt like visual novels. It makes me nostalgic for the early days I began dev'ing with the engine and some of the fond memories I had playing a bunch of already released games or looking forward to new ones. I feel like some of the stuff from the past will never be tried again now, so it's quite a treasure trove. Not to say there isn't still great release now, there is still quite a bit, but I guess I just have really odd tastes and can be incredibly picky lol.
  7. It really depends on the wads. And what type of map you're in the mood for. In general, I still love the original 1&2 maps, but if I want anything fresh then there's a wealth of user-made content ~
  8. What kind of maps are your favorite to play in DOOM wads and why?

I got an add-on pack for the generator in RPG Maker MV.

Do you destroy all the explosive barrels or leave them?

I typically like to save them to be useful in killing hordes of monsters, so I don't waste ammo but.... otherwise... I do quite like seeing them explode lol. I may not shoot them all every time, but when I am in the mood, sure.

YOU LET YOUR YOUNG KIDS PLAY DOOM?!!?!

I don't have kids but I remember being about 8 years old when my dad let me play DOOM. To the original poster, I think it's cool how you mention she is mature enough to understand it's just a game, know fiction from reality, and what is right and wrong. That sounds like she is ready, and it means you've done your part in raising her and I think it is so wholesome. My dad always made sure to tell my brother and I the difference between video games and reality, he made it instilled in our heads, to know right from wrong, and let us play certain games when he felt we were old enough. Every game we played back then were games he had already played himself! I also think it is so cute your daughter drew a map of what she wanted her own wad to look like, that is just so darn cute! And lol "Sunshine Boys" nice name xD

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Sort of on a free RPG Maker games binge at the moment. Recently started playing one called Willistoria. You can select to play one of 4 characters, and it doesn't have a main set storyline except one important to your character. You can do quests in any order and just explore all of the continents, which is pretty fun. Battles seem fairly balanced but can get difficult. It's done in such a simple way yet with so much to do, I really like this concept for an RM game. Whilst it is certainly not perfect, it's obvious a lot of love and passion went into this RM game and it shows. So whilst it may not be flashy, it's been pretty fun so far.
  13. Well, I'm starting by playing the first game (Enhanced Edition) and I'm loving it so far! Sure, the mechanics are a bit unusual, even with the ability to rebind keys, but it wasn't that difficult to get into as I initially thought (probably because of more modern controls. I took a peak at the original controls and those would've driven me nuts lol). Despite its age, it really is something else to experience. I can only imagine how mindblowing it was when it first came out.

At Doom's Gate, but 100% bathroom sounds!

I feel ashamed at how much this toilet remix made me laugh to tears.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

This is not my first, but it has been years since I played. The portrait packs I got from 2 places, one was from IMBD and one from the Beamdog forums, I'll have to hunt down the links again.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Currently playing some Icewind Dale (and Baldur's Gate). I also learned you could make your own custom soundsets to use for the characters, so of course I went and recorded my own and ask some of my regular voice overs if they'd like to make a set too xD Also taking advantage of being able to add custom portraits. Found a couple of nice fan packs. Anyway, I hadn't played this game in a LONG TIME, and being able to use my own soundsets from my team really makes the experience feel fresh! (Both screenies have different leaders since I was shifting everyone around to make sure their "becoming leader" snippet worked)

    What Was Your Last Purchase?

Toilet Bound Hanako-kun, Volume 0 I know that title sounds super weird but it's actually a really cool supernatural story about urban legends. The reason for the name is the named character in question is very loosely based on the Japanese urban legend "Hanako of the toilet", only in this story Hanako is a boy and grants wishes. This volume is interesting because it contains the original version of the story, since it was meant to just be a short 3-chapter oneshot, so this is the original self-contained one-shot and it's very interesting to see this alternate version of how it all began. Plus it comes with the mangaka's debut oneshot "My Dear Living Dead" (honestly that story's concept would make a really cool manga series in and of itself).

How'd you get into Doom, anyway?

I was probably around 8-ish years old when I finally played DOOM (because, back in 93, I was only a baby and my brother @Triangle Box Studio just born lol). I remember when, a little younger, my brother and I would watch my dad play DOOM. It was always an exciting day (er, evening) when he would co-op on the internet with his brother (aka our uncle) to play through the game together. The idea you could play a video game with someone else not in the same room fascinated us at the time. I always remember finding DOOM to be a scary game, but I was still fascinated by it. Around when I was 8-ish is when he allowed me to play it for the first time. I was a bit nervous at first, but it was cool to finally play it myself. My dad sat right behind as I played. I'd say most of my earlier runs with the game he was always there to watch, and eventually when I played regularly, I was allowed to boot up the game myself. My brother liked to watch me play, but for some reason (at the time) didn't have an interested in playing it, in fact I don't think he started playing it 'till he was a young teen for some reason haha but now it's his favorite game ever and he plays it waaaay more than I do! As a kid, I always played through the game using tons of cheat codes; full ammo, invulnerability, walking through walls to get to the exit super fast, etc. and I often would just skip around levels, choosing whatever name looked interesting from the drop-down menu. Nowadays, I hardly play with cheat codes, I just don't find cheating as fun as I used to and prefer to play games the way they were meant to be played.

So, how old are you ?

Will be turning 30 years old this year. Can't believe it sometimes. Nobody who's seen me can believe it either xD
  20. A new Clippy wad??? *zooms to download* Dude, making a whole megawad in only 3 days sounds both tiring and awesome at the same time! Even if the maps are crude, I expect them to be fun which is really all that matters.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

I'm mostly playing various indie visual novels + Temple of the Lizardmen 3 wad. It's a weird back and forth, I know. Sometimes I just feel like reading a good story with some choice input, other times I need something like Unreal with DOOM flare.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

Even though I know the shotgun is a close range weapon, it doesn't stop me from sometimes trying to shoot enemies with it from a distance. It took years for me and my family to figure out how to defeat the Icon of Sin without cheating. My dad couldn't figure it out, neither could my uncle when they played the map together over the internet, I played the map several times years ago not sure what the heck to do. One day I think my brother figured it out by accident and now we know it's really damn simple!
  23. I'm just thinking what it could lead to.
