  1. Went in blind for this one. Thought I might be on to something but scripted "Cyberdemon decides to attack at the worst possible moment" got me. udtwid_ohno.zip - Cat 1

    [FINAL RELEASE] Eviternity

Just finished playing this today. I have to say, it has been quite some time since I had wad really just amaze me the way this one did. Numerous times I stopped to say "wow, that's so cool!" I've been playing Doom on/off for the better part of around 20 years, and I still find it really something that this late in the game, I can still be wowed so much. The visuals in map26 are just...HOW. So many releases in a few years have set the bar so high, and I just don't know how it can go higher, but I know it will. Incredible work to all those involved!

Doom music: Sign of Evil - intended instrument?

I've always preferred the "plucked violin" interpretation of the song. That's what I heard first, and never quite got used to the "correct" version with the synth drum. There's a few other songs Prince did with synth drums that I find better in OPL from Wolfenstein 3D, I think.
  4. I had a chance to drop in and play when it was packed. I forgot how OTT Doom deathmatch can be with so many people. Fun times! Kind of annoying at least one trend from another online multiplayer game I used to frequent seems to have followed me, but that's neither here nor there. I should get in on these FFAs more often!
  5. Late to this party, but managed to get these demos in just in time. Survived Renascence in 1:58:40. Cat 2 - played this one when the year began, but didn't remember it super clearly. Wasn't too bad overall, but some close calls and the harrowing Wormhole nearly got me. Resistance - died on map02. Also at 2; I played an early version of this around the same time, but certainly don't remember this difficulty. I might have played on HMP at that time, too. These are the exact kinds of traps designed to do someone like me in. rena-resist.zip
  6. Dead on map31. BOO. I came into this one with full confidence, having played it before and after it came out. It figures when the camera is rolling, suddenly the hell knight encounter decides to kill me ungracefully. Category 2. d64_iron.zip
  7. Oh okay, I was thinking Boom also loaded them up but this makes sense.
  8. OH SHIT BOI, gonna jump on this one for sure. One question though - there are alternate versions of some maps in the wad for Boom-compatible ports; are these taken into consideration? I was going to run with PrBoom+ as per usual, but I wasn't sure if playing with complevel 2 would just load the vanilla versions when appropriate or not.
  9. Everyone here is lying - nobody actually likes Doom on a site dedicated to it

  11. You're not shooting them hard enough ;) (They are shootable. Unsure as to why it wouldn't work...)
  12. This is actually a surprise to me. I was wondering why Doom would sometimes have weird blips and anomalies with the sound when I played it on my machine running 98SE. You can really hear the glitchiness with the audio in this video (timestamped). Now I'm wondering if I should use original 98 or even 95 instead.
  13. I feel the same way when I see people who registered over a decade after me with 10x the posts. Not knocking anyone for being active, it's just crazy to me is all.
  14. Wolfenstein 3D. I remember being around 10-11 and finding a map editor which was essentially about as easy as using MSPaint. I however did not at all understand floor codes or the patrolling paths very well, so I'd create levels in which every enemy would be alerted upon one gunshot. Never did anything serious with it, nor have I really considered serious mapping for any game since.
  15. Made it to map15 before my ultimate demise. Fuck that level, seriously. Aside, I'm genuinely impressed with how far I made it and how well I managed to handle some really hairy shit. I don't think I've ever done an Ironman so well to date. Don't want to too the horn too hard, but this came as quite the surprise to me. (As a side note, I am now using PrBoom+ 2.5.1.5, and as a result my autoload wad to replace the secret sound now functions properly. Hopefully this does not disrupt the demo results. I very much doubt it, but just throwing it out there.) plutner.zip - Category 3
  16. It's really something. The track used on the final version of The Lair is truly great. Something about it just strikes a certain chord within me, and it's of course really well-written. The other tracks, especially the moodier ones like on Breakdown and Eye of the Storm, also work very well for this mod.
  17. Glad to have helped. It's strange that some of these more obscure quirks don't crash Chocolate Doom, but having full 100% vanilla compat I feel is a good thing. I'm glad I decided to run through the whole thing in vanilla and find this bug.
  18. I managed to 99% complete v1.0 on my Windows 98 machine, which was fun to do. There proved to be no problems with the mod itself other than the final boss, which for some reason will freeze the game after completing its arch-vile attack. At first I thought it was the computer having issues (as it had some during recording overall), but I consistently reproduced the issue, also while playing the vanilla version on DOSBox. Chocolate Doom, however, does not seem to have this problem. The below video demonstrates the issue - it should begin playing at the specified behavior
  19. Very much enjoying this mod. The recreations of the maps and especially the special Doom 64 effects are pretty damn neat. I'm currently playing through the final version on my Windows 98 machine to get the true 1997 experience - glad it doesn't bomb out on map03 anymore!

    Jacob's Ladder map00 music/song title??

The metadata in the mp3 shows the song as being "In Memory of the Truth" by Coil, off of the Unnatural History II (Smiling in the Face of Perversity) compilation album
  23. In regards to It Only Gets Worse: Titlepic (TITLE): System of a Down - Deer Dance Map01 (FOREST): El DeBarge - Who's Johnny Map05 (PRISON): System of a Down - Prison Song Map06 (ZARATHUS): Richard Strauss - Also sprach Zarathustra (made famous by 2001: A Space Odyssey) Map09 (TOILET): The Kinks - Lola (the midi sounds like a different interpretation, however) Map10 (CREEPY): Aubrey Hodges - Watch Your Step (from Doom 64) Map12 (MAGIC): Queen - Princes of the Universe Map13 (KWIKE): 52nd Street Theme, which is an old jazz standard. The midi was made by Josef Huber Map99 (SECRET): Queen - Another One Bites the Dust The rest I'm unsure about. EDIT: Map02 was made for "Nucking Futs" by Wills himself. @Cell
  24. Darkening 1 - completed in 55:36. Got a nice time advantage on map07 due to a major shortcut. Some very close calls, but also godly RNG in my favor (for once!). Darkening 2 - died on map09. A callback to Insertion (also July, huh), wherein WHERE DID THAT CRUSHER COME FROM FUCK YOU was my death. In review, I failed to notice it was moving before I grabbed the secret. Was very confident about finishing this one, too. :\ Both were category 2, though I played Darkening 1 more recently than 2. darkending.zip
