    Community Chest Series Demos [Boom, -complevel 9]

    Great job man! Up until now I think my UV Max demos have been the only ones in that category posted for this map. I always wondered why more weren't done for it. It's a great map and a lot of fun.
  2. I've been playing Doom for 11 years and still prefer it for game play over all other games. As has been mentioned, the simplicity of the game and the fact that it's so customizable make it THE all-time classic in my book. That's not to mention the supremacy of its many environments and accompanying music. What I've always found ironic is that the self-righteous who have condemned Doom for all these years (many, perhaps most, on the basis of religious beliefs) haven't looked deep enough into the game to realize that the enemy being shot up is evil, not good.

    Here is another -nomonster max demo I did for level 20, a map by Dr. Zin. This is like the other demos for levels 18 & 19 I submitted earlier. This is a challenging map, and I hope to see some all out UV-MAX and/or Speed runs done for it. A little hint: Don't assume too much while you're making your way through this level.     Here is a -nomonster max demo for level 18. It is basically just a walkthrough demo with 100% secrets. It was recorded using Prboom-plus 2.4.8.3 with -complevel 9. I hadn't seen any demos for this map, so I wanted to do something that might spur some interest in some of you doing some of the more difficult runs for the level. c318o313.zip

    R.I.P. Bobby Fischer

    I've been a dedicated doomer for years, and I love chess. I've played it off and on my whole life. You ought to try it. You might like it. In reference to Grazza, I suspect there are still a few people out there that don't know what qualifies him to speak on the subject. The article he cited above is not just a snippet of an interview somebody did with him. He is in fact a co-author of that and many other books on chess. He is a FIDE Master and is recognized internationally for his work as an author, editor, and publisher.     Great max run GH! That is one of the funnest maps in the whole set for me. I don't know how you held on in that area with the red key; down to 2 health with hordes converging and only a few blue bottles to draw on. :)
  9. That's funny because I have been wondering if that might have something to do with it. But it seemed like such a simple suggestion, I was hesitant to mention it. But thinking back, when Espi posted his updated version within only a couple of days or so after he posted the original, I didn't remember seeing a note in the forums about it. I only found out about it because when Espi saw that I had sent in a demo, he emailed me wanting to make sure I knew he had resubmitted the wad because of changes he had had to make to it. Anyway, thanks Grazza for looking into and finding the source of the problem.
  10. Yeah, I have since learned this from Grazza. When I first sent this demo set to Doug for posting, he ran into some desynching problems with all but two of them. He tried running them with Prboom-plus 2.4.8.2 (on both WinXP Home Edition & Win98se) without success. (By the way, I used WinXP Pro when I recorded them.) After Doug told me about the problem, I went back and re-recorded (using -complevel 3) a couple of the demos he had problems with to see if that might be the issue. But those wouldn't play for him either. Grazza then took a look at them, and he was able to get all 10 demos to work using Vista. However when he tried to run them in XP Home Ed., he ran into the same problems Doug had. So the problem's being looked into.
  11. Here is a set of nomonsters demos for Espi's 'Back to Basics' wad. The megawad replaces Episode 2 of Ultimate Doom. I mainly did these to inspire others to do some UV Max, Speed, and even Tyson demos. Basically, they are all completed with Prboom-plus 2.4.8.2 using -complevel 9. Hope they are helpful to somebody. This is a very good map set from Espi. Edit: Per Grazza, these demos appear only to play back under XP Pro or Vista, for reasons that are currently under investigation. Edit2 by Grazza: To play back these demos, be sure to use the version of the wad dated 22-December-2007.

    Nice tyson demo Gusta. You got down there pretty low on health a couple of times and had to fight your way through some barons and cacos to survive. Good map for a tyson though. I hope we'll see some more tysons for CC3.
  13. This replacement set for episode 2 is IMO the best megawad of the year for Doom1. First of all, I can't say enough about the layout of each of these levels. It adds so much fun to every map in the set. In addition, every level does a great job creating the OD atmosphere and feel. The ambience is nice, and the use of textures took me back in time to the early years. As far as gameplay, it's everything you look for in a wad. I've got no complaints. It's only a shame the CacoAwards have already been announced because this baby would definitely have been in the running. Great job Espi! P.S. If it hasn't happened already, I hope there will be a demo thread started real soon for this set.
