    RoE cvar fun

dunno if anyone else has been fooling around with the command variables in Resurrection of Evil, but i came across this one: g_enableSlowMo heheh Matrix-style fun without the weird "oval-vision" effect and without the time limit. only thing is, i've found that if you bind it to a key using: bind r "toggle g_enableslowmo" if you enable SlowMo mode, it will sometimes disable itself.....i dunno why!? Anyways, i thought it was a pretty cool cvar, and couldn't find any reference to it online anywhere so i thought i'd submit it here! :D

    RoE cvar fun

no, i'm not pressing r again it's weird....it seems to do it when i press a different key just after i've pressed the "slowmo" key i dunno, i guess it could be my ZBoard software messing up!

    DOOM 3 patch is out

i think that this patch has slowed down my DOOM 3 there's times when my machine will drop down as low as 25fps, and that should NOT be happening on my machine. i think i'm gonna end up uninstalling and reinstalling the original retail version :(
  4. i believe this to be fake, for this sole reason: one of the sounds for the Imp is totally ripped from somewhere else, but I can't pinpoint it :( it's either from a film or another game, but I have definitely heard it before. It's the sounds that happen when the Imp sees you...I guess that a coder would call it a "sight" event sound...either way, Trent Reznor wouldn't stoop so low as to sample a sound that is so obviously close to the original source - it's not even been put through many effects racks!

high end comp lousy fps? hELP! gforce 6800 GT!

well at the moment my system specs are as follows: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (2GHz clock speed) 1GB DDR RAM XFX nVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256MB card i have my aperture set at 512MB, but i did that manually...i'm sure that before i upgraded my BIOS (and before the CMOS got wiped) that DOOM 3 ran a little faster, so i may set my aperture down a notch. thanks for the tip :)

    DOOM 3 patch is out

ok well i've confirmed the patch is working, because the flashlight has changed slightly, and i get the help text when querying a cvar without a variable. about the s_maxSoundsPerShader cvar, what is a good number to set this at for good sound? at the moment, i just guessed and set it to 6.

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

so if you knew what sound design was all about, why did you "kick-off on one" saying that it's sight sounds, not a dance track? by saying something like that, you're basically saying that you only know of Music terminology and not general sound terminology. and i wasn't trying to trumpet my elitism, and i admit that i don't know everything....but what i do know, i know quite well. i know that this may sound silly after my rant, but please accept my apologies for insulting your intelligence. my intentions weren't to try and turn this thread into a "who's got a bigger ****" thread. i understand that is my fault and i'm sorry.

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

considering the amount of time he spent on doing the sounds, i would have thought not but then again, i think we all know what Reznor is like with wasting time!

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

ok for starters, i'm not a kid. second i'm not retarded. if the sounds that Reznor made were put in the NIN folder, why isn't there a NIN folder in this supposed "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"? i believe that these are just sounds from the Alpha that were ditched.
  12. oscillik

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

I believe that Reznor didn't make all of the sounds, in particular the sounds I'm talking about....not the end

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

and if you knew anything about sound design you'd know that you can use anything you want to design the sound

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

if these sounds are from the alpha leek, then i deduce that not all of the sound effects were made by or produced by Reznor, as he wouldn't let something like that slip by. and i know that you're all saying "well how the hell would you know?" i don't know 110% certain, but what i do know is that i have been studying music for years, listening in great detail (as if i were some kind of music tech geek or something) and i pick out every little thing. i have never heard a sample in any of the work by NIN that is a blatantly obvious sample.

the so-called "Trent Reznor Sound Pack"

yes it is!!! thank you!! but Reznor still has enough integrity to not use a sample that's so blatantly obvious....even if he were to use a sample as obvious as that, he'd put it through distortion, phasers, flange, put LFO's on it and maybe even some harmonic rotation. that sample is pretty much clean.
  16. of course it has mate!! the original Lost Souls: screaming skulls on fire. the DOOM 3 Lost Souls: screaming cybernetic hell-like heads, with flesh, lips, eyes and mouths that open to reveal some sharp teeth. design change? methinks so :)
  17. i would just like to proclaim to the world how much i am grateful that id Software exist. my first id Software game would be the Commander Keen series, and although I never really got fanatically into it, I did spend many hours playing it with enjoyment :) Then along came Wolfenstein 3D, and DOOM, DOOM II, Quake, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and now DOOM 3. I have to admit, that at first, I had been playing pirated copies of the above mentioned games, but since then I have purchased all of them, and in the case of the DOOM series, have purchased it multiple times. I have bought it 3 times for the PC, twice for Mac, and both DOOM and DOOM II for the GBA. I even own the holy "id Anthology". I have bought DOOM 3 for PC, when it is released for Mac I shall buy it again. I have just bought the Collectors Edition of DOOM, yet I STILL wanna contribute. The problem is that although I am buying the games, I know that MY hard earned money isn't going directly to id Software....the shop wherever I bought the titles from is getting my money. I have searched for a way to email id Software, but to no avail :( I would SO much like to donate some money directly to the team. I know that I wouldn't be able to contribute much...maybe £50, but at least that would hopefully buy them all a round of drinks, or get them a nice chocolate cake or something. I know that it may seem soppy and all, but id Software has given me a lot of memories, and are still to this day an influence on me musically (i'm a musician). If any of you guys are reading this, thank you very much

    PDA / Flashlight bug

I dunno if anyone else has this bug, but here goes: If, lets say i'm using the shotgun, then switch to the flashlight and THEN use the PDA whilst i still have the flashlight active, when I exit the PDA I cannot use the flashlight key (F) to switch back to my shotgun (or whichever weapon I choose before switching to the flashlight) Anyone?

    a major influence [id Software]

how did you manage to get in touch with the id team? I haven't seen anywhere on idsoftware.com that has any kind of email address, other than links to Activision.

Will it run nicely on YOUR system?

yay!!!!!!!!!! :) i have been hoping and praying that it'd be good enough! i've been a Mac user for a few years, and with all the problems i've been having with my PowerBook (which i had originally got so i could play the Mac version of DOOM3) i'm building a PC with the aforementioned spec. It'll be ready by Saturday. and i'll lose a lot of sleep!
  22. oscillik

Will it run nicely on YOUR system?

can someone let me know if my spec PC will run DOOM3 at good frame rates? AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1GB DDR RAM 80GB 7200rpm drive nVidia Geforce 6800 GT 256MB RAM i'd like to run it at 1280x1024, but i know that may be a bit optimistic would that system run it at 1024x768 in the high setting?

    Communication in multiplayer

i hope that DOOM3 does have built in voice chat, because i've never heard of something like Roger Wilco or a similar program for Mac OS X :( it's very annoying when I get fragged whilst trying to communicate

    Doom ³: The Movie

if they do a DOOM movie, I really hope that they don't go for CGI animation. Lately too many films have computer animation in them, and ok it may be acceptable for the likes of The Matrix, where the computer animation can actually benefit the story because of the mechanical style. But I think that a DOOM movie would benefit more from actual puppetry and real-life animatronics. Look at the likes of Aliens, Total Recall, Terminator. They didn't use computers. The trouble is though, no-one will even consider using "low tech" solutions anymore because everyone is using the "trendy" option

    Ruining Doom

you can't really compare Wolfenstein 3D to Return to Castle Wolfenstein because id Software didn't really have much to do with the game (as far as I understand). I don't think that id Software had anything to do with the storyline for RtCW or anything like that. I think the only thing they had to do with the game was licensing the Q3A engine to Grey Matter Studios
