Most Favorite And Least Favorite band
Alfwin replied to SLOTH MARINE (CB)'s topic in Everything Else
Hard to pick a favourite. There's a list of bands I like, but which one I like most changes pretty often. For now, I'm gonna say it's Jinjer. They're really fucking good. I don't have a least favourite band, for the simple reason that any band I don't enjoy, I very quickly forget. -
For my YouTube channel, I just finished playing The Elder Scrolls: Arena, and now I'm starting its sequel, Daggerfall. In my own time, I've been playing Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, and I'm having a lot of fun. I just finished E4M3. I've also been playing Civilization VI, on and off.

I don't drink alcohol (never found a drink I liked), but my regular beverage of choice - which I'm drinking right now - is a mug of nice dark cocoa, flavoured with honey, vanilla, and cayenne pepper. Sometimes I'll throw in some cinnamon for variety, or leave out the honey if I don't want it sweet.

@blaak_doomer1 If you want to post your WAD, start a new thread for it, don't post on an existing thread. You should also include some information about your WAD. Take a look at this post: Also, access to the Google Drive you linked is restricted. You don't need to use Google Drive at all, though; you can put your WAD in a .zip, .7z, or .rar archive and upload it directly to your post.

The early Warcraft games had fantastic music, and Warcraft II's music in particular is not only incredible, but is also a source of plenty of nostalgia for me personally. (also, that harpsichord is sexy af) Civilization VI has a pretty wide variety of music, due to it drawing from so many different cultures, but all of it is amazing. The Atomic-Era Cree track is a particular favourite of mine. And the Fallout series has a great soundtrack, too; particularly Mark Morgan's work in the first two games. New Reno is one of my favourite locations in the Fallout series, and it's partly due to this music

A few nights ago, I had a dream where I was physically in a DOOM level. It looked like actual vanilla doom, not a more realistic version, but it was a physical space that I could walk around in. There weren't any monsters, and I remember being in a large room with a high, TLITE6_6 ceiling. One wall was BROWN1 with a wide window, set slightly forwards from the rest of the wall, through which I could see a room covered in BROVINE. Perpendicular to that wall, the ceiling was lowered slightly, supported by two STARGR1 pillars, and beyond them was an opening leading to a semicircular BROWNGRN room with a balcony running along the edge of the far wall, whence a couple doors lead to parts of the map I didn't explore. It was one of the most vivid, real-feeling dreams I've had in a long while, and when I woke up, I immediately opened Doom Builder and started trying to re-create it. If I manage to make a decent level out of it, I'll post it here on Doomworld, of course.

On to the final episode of DOOM 1! I've not actually played through SIGIL before; just the first three levels. -
I've been feeling better about myself lately than I have in a long while. So... hello!

Four episodes down, only one to go! And then it's on to Doom II. -

Almost done with Thy Flesh Consumed! Also, hopefully the audio balance in this one is better than my previous videos (I'd gotten feedback that my game audio was too loud before). -
How many maps have you created / released? (Wadmaker's Wadography Thread)
Alfwin replied to Doomkid's topic in WAD Discussion
I've been playing around with DoomBuilder on and off since 2017, but only within the past few months have I actually finished any maps. I've released 7 maps so far, and have two more completed that will be included in Episode 1 of Below (my 32-map project), in addition to a couple of still-in-progress maps also intended for Below. -

Well, I recorded all the remaining levels of Thy Flesh Consumed... then I realized my mic hadn't recorded aught! So, this is take two of E4M6. -
Well here it is; my first level -- Absolute Zero

Pretty fun map, this. Layout was cool; enemy placement could've been a bit more interesting. Good stuff overall, though. -

What even is the point of the yellow key in E4M5? -

First time I've played this map in ages. It's not bad, actually. -
Not a bad little map. Visuals are nice; combat could be a bit more interesting. Good stuff overall.

Perfect Hatred... had to use saves for this one, but I made it through in the end. -

Started my playthrough of Thy Flesh Consumed. Been a while since I last played episode 4; damn, E4M2 is hard. -
Well, I'm glad to see that using mouselook doesn't completely spoil the surprise of that first trap. I'm also glad to see people liking the pillar-windows; I'm a big fan of their aesthetic and I definitely want to use them again in the future.

If I had had an actual clear vision of the map going into it, I definitely would've tried harder to give it a bit more character. As it was, pretty much the main reason I made this was to avoid burnout on industrial-style maps. Working on this did inspire several things that might make it into future maps, however (I couldn't find good ways to implement them here).

Finishing my playthrough of Inferno. I thought I remembered where the secrets in Warrens were, but it was ages since I last played that map. Oh, well. -
For the past few weeks, I've been hard at work on a Megawad project titled "Below." I had planned to wait until the first 11 maps - Episode 1 - were finished before releasing anything (besides two maps which were originally designed as standalone levels, which have been public for a while and are what prompted me to make this megawad), but I'd like to get some feedback on what I've been working on so far to make sure the project is going in a good direction, and anyway, I've missed engaging with the Doomworld community as part of my design process. So, here's a map from the middle of episode 1, Machine Shop, packaged as a standalone level. It's not the best level I've made for this project so far imo - I want to save that for the proper release - but I think it turned out all right nonetheless. I'm quite keen to hear what others think of it, though! Compatibility: Doom II Vanilla (tested with ChocolateDoom and DOSBox). Map slot: MAP01 Difficulty: All settings implemented. Tested on HNTR, HMP, UV. Not tested on ITYTD or NM. Should be comparable to mid-game Doom II. Estimated play time: ~10 minutes. Download: MACHNSHP.7z Screenshots:

Machine Shop: A map from my upcoming MegaWAD!
Alfwin replied to Alfwin's topic in WAD Releases & Development
@Arrowhead12 Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad to hear that was your reaction to the 2 archie encounter; that's what I was going for: a brief moment of panic before you get to the invuln. And yeah, I'm planning to keep the "industrial" aesthetic throughout the whole WAD, albeit with a gradual progression to being more surreal/hellish. And the sky was a lot of fun to make, for sure. -
Machine Shop: A map from my upcoming MegaWAD!
Alfwin replied to Alfwin's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I always appreciate the videos, mate! Yeah, the visuals aren't as detailed as I had hoped; earlier drafts were more detailed but I was getting HOM/visplane overflow errors in the outdoor areas so I had to tone it down. I think some of the earlier drafts were also more recognizable as a machine shop, but I had to sacrifice some of that to make the combat encounters work how I wanted. I might revisit it and see if I can fit some more detail in for the full Episode 1 release, though. That final encounter was pretty intense - I don't think I actually ever tried it without picking up the invisibility sphere. It was supposed to be a trade-off, though; invisibility significantly lessens the threat of the hit-scanners but makes the Mancubus fireballs more unpredictable. So it's good to see that the fight still can go well without using it. -
To display both ENDOOM screens, I was using DOOM2.EXE (the one that comes with the Steam release of Doom II) in DOSBox v0.74-3. I hadn't realized the original ENDOOM screen had a blank line at the bottom; that's good to know. No idea why my version is printing an extra LF though.
