  1. This marks the first post of mine after my two-day stint (thank you SO much for making it short...I swear that mistake was dumb and will not happen again) in Losers and my first in Blogs.

I've been saving for a long time now, and I've decided to get a new compy for Christmas! I've made a list of parts, but not prices (so I have no idea how much this'll cost...but I'm guessing about 3.5-4 grand Canadian) of what I'm going to use. Props to my friend Matt for going through this piece-by-piece (damn/thank him and his 2-Year Computer Systems Degree!) and to Comiclez for shouting at me for 5-10 minutes about keyboards and mice.

I'm going to use this computer mainly for media stuff (uber TV/DVD viewing, music, burning, etc) and DOOM (I'll finally be buying DOOM3, since this puppy will be more than capable of handling it), so bare that in mind as you read my list of parts.

I'm half looking for advice on my selection of parts, as I have not taken any financial steps toward this computer as of yet, so it's not too late to change anything. I don't want to be making a really dumb move on a machine I'll be relying upon for 3-5 years solid.

Without further ado, I present to you, the list of parts for my new computer!

UPDATE: after an hour at a great compy shoppe, I fixed the list and got prices on individual parts. Between tomorrow and Friday I will have a few package deal estimates. Please note all prices are in Canadian funds.

    code:
    Array
Making sure it is upgradable of course.

EDIT: I'm quite possibly getting a 3.0GHz AMD Processor and a Gigabyte Motherboard, with room for another Processor (meaning I can get something like a 4-5GHz Dual-Core in addition to my current one a few years down the road), and I'm probably getting a second Hard Drive (120GB) for just my OS and such (kinda like partitioning, except a seperate Hard Drive, so things will run faster), and I'm not getting Media Centre, just a TV Tuner for my Vid card. My RAM may not be DDR2, but plain 'ol DDR instead.

Things are still up in the air as of now.

Hey, i'm bored, so i'll tell you stuff about me which may or may not be sensible(make sense).

I love buffets, but tend to either overeat and feel sick for a bit afterwards, or undereat and not get my money's worth.

I am addicted to doom and video games in general....but get bored when playing the longer games for awhile.

I have gone through 3 computers in the last 8 years, 2 recently and 1 awhile back......and always get the same crap errors after awhile, no matter how much I prune the damn thing of garbage and keep it up to date.

I like pizza, but only if it's made to near perfection to my tastes. Otherwise, I get sick/nauseous.

I am also addicted to Bulletin Boards, so you may expect to see me in alot of threads, albeit on topic and more sensible than this.

Well, that's it for now. If you want/can, post a reply or question to cheer me up or whatever.

  4. All you Philly people can look outside. It's about half an inch so far. Funny, I was out walking earlier-- it didn't feel cold enough.

  5. I am an easy going guy. A neo-hippie with a shaved head, 1 week of growth. A chin beard, a regular supply of pot, vinyl records and a working turntable, Musical instruments without any knowlage of notation. I am slack; I pull my own weight, let people make their own independent decisions, do basic chores, wash my dishes when I damn well feel like it. I have altered me degree of perception to the level that I can comprehend the world around me, and manipulate it to my own bidding. I am the exploiter, the sloth, the zen master of my environment. I am become lazy.

    Within perfect order, chaos.
    Within perfect chaos, order.
Perhaps the only real constant in my universe.
This is the way my mind has operated sucessfully for the longest of time.

And then college life came and fucked it all around.

My life peaked back in March. I'm sure of it. Perfect Control, both real and hallucinatory, of my everyday life. I'd like to think that I still have that control, but things are starting to spiral out.

    My Opinions on Dorm life:

-Being told to "Wash the dishes" should include washing them, rinsing them, drying them, and putting them away. It should NOT include washing the counter, washing the table, washing the kitchen floor, and vaccuming the carpet. If these need to be done, you say "clean the kitchen", and even then, it doesn't need to be done daily. 29 out of 30 randomly interveiwed students agreed with me on this.

-You should not have to buy your roommate beer if your friends, as questionable as they might be, come over and drink it and then don't tell you about it until you have to kick them out at 2:30 am because you have class in 6 1/2 hours. You especially do not have to buy it if said roommate has alcohol abuse issues (and not just in the
    stereotypical college manner).

-If the shoes are clean, they may go as they please. this includes the kitchen floor, the stairs, and the living room.

-If a roommate washes all the dishes, including the ones you told him were yours and you'd wash on your own time, you should not be expected to wash all of theirs and the other roommates. They shouldn't have to be told twice, they know better.

-"Acting like a Man" should not include shaving your chest hair with a Gilette Mach 3 Turbo, wearing clothes made for kids half your age in the largest available size, wearing 3 different colognes, talking with a lisp, watching "The O.C." habitually, and listening to crap dance music they play in popular nighclubs. Your just asking for trouble with this.

-A lasso is made for roping cattle, not humans.

-"Dirty Skid" is not an insult; it's something you find at a warehouse.

-Just because you've been to Amsterdam doesn't make you cool. You have never smoked pot a day in your life.

-You can live without a microwave. Watch me.

-Manipulate your R.A., and exploit your roommates to the greatest lengths you can.

    and now, your opinions, please.

  6. My PC got a major overhaul today. I would've gotten better shit for the money at NewEgg, but going into a store with the mindset of spending $1000+ is an addictive drug. My older sister is getting my dumpy old P4.

    BFG Nforce4 motherboard
    AMD Athlon64 3200+
    GeForce 6800 GT (I tried for a 7800, I really did)
    200Gb HD, 1Gb RAM
    DVD+-RW
    500W HD
    Keyboard + Mouse
    Battlefield 2 (2 copies)

  7. It's my birfday, I expect gifts from you ungrateful basrads starting NOW. lawl!

no seriously, this is the most boring birthday ever. who'd have thought that my 18th birthday would suck. Wasn't I supposed to be out going to parties and banging chicks every night? Ah well, fate, you motherfucker.

    Meh.

  8. So I spend £90 on a new AC adaptor for my laptop. I even say to zarkyb on #zdoom, "ooh zark, PSU is the most important thing in any PC, and I've replaced mine, no expense spared."

Well turns out it wasn't the adaptor after all. So much for painstaking deductive process. I honestly believe it shuts off randomly like this, because it IS alive and wants to annoy me. Why else would it work perfectly when my parents visited yesterday, and they could have taken it home with them to be fixed by our local shop? No, now I have to drive the fucker all the way back home some time this week, and I need to start writing my semester essays for uni. I also have to post that adaptor back.

I fucking hate things that don't work SOME OF THE TIME. Either work or don't work you piece of shit. You have no idea how tempting it was to beat seven shades of shit out of it this morning.

Still, it could be worse, I could be Airraid and have lost some finger I guess. All fingers still present and correct. Or I could be ZarkyB, and Scottish. Heh.

Anyway to give this rant some purpose other than making me feel better, when has technology let you down in the most spectacular and complete way imaginable?

You wish you were even half as cool as me.

Anyway, sure it's not battery problem? Check the contacts on the battery.

  9. Hooray! My first major injury. I accidentally lopped a chunk off my left index finger while chopping carrots. It hurt like hell and I lost like half a pint of blood. Then I had to go wait 2 and a half hours in a hospital before I could get seen. Bleh.

I knew I shouldn't have kept those knives so sharp. :P

Edit: I took off about this much. Not too much but I'll end up with a funny lookin' finger. :/

  13. After 3 days I finall beat MK: Shaolin Monks. Totally worth the buy, am currently going through and finding the secrets, as I'm only 84% through (though from what I hear the secrets goes about 100%).

    And also...

  14. Yay, I'm nineteen! No prezzies for me, but I don't care I'm all about the money. Saving it actually. And no party for me because I don't know any body in my area. But that's ok because I hate Leicester!

  16. ...or something. I doubt many people will care, but I'm off back to University in a couple of hours. I won't have internet in my new place of residence for a good few weeks so I won't be around on IRC, and probably won't post on DW much. Just want everyone to know I'm not dead, and I'll be back to take the piss out of you all in a few weeks.

    Later.

    Oh, one more thing:

  17. Today I encountered something I had not seen in quite a long time.. a Blue Screen of Death.
Now, it may not seem like a big deal to you, and it definitely did not seem like it at the
time, as I just shrugged it off and resumed what I was originally doing, but it kept happening.
Within an hours' time, I would see once again the Blue Screen of Death, popping in my face.
After a few occurances, I decided it might be a good idea to try and reformat.

That I did. Apparently, that did not help AT ALL, considering it's STILL happening. In fact,
it's happened probably 4 times during the course of my attempting to write this very post.
Now, I am totally unsure as to what might be causing this problem. So I have come to you,
oh wonderful, helping, caring people of Doomworld forums. Can you aid an idiot in need?

The most common thing I see when a BSOD occurs is the following:
"*** STOP: 0x000000F4 (bunch of other hexidecimal numbers)".

However, on one single occurance, something strange happened. Rather than doing what it would
normally do and print information all over the screen, it instead only printed about 5 lines
to the screen.. one of them being something along the lines of "Unknown hard error".

I have tried a couple of things to see what might be causing this, with no clear answer in
sight. Firstly, I, as suggested, used MEMTEST to check for any problems with my RAM. Everything
appeared to be fine. I also tried running windows in Safe mode, only to have it BSOD in me again
    within minutes.

As of right now, I'm thinking it might be the hard drive. Actually, I'm hoping it is the hard drive, rather than something more crucial, such as the mother board.

    Here are my system specs:

    CPU: 3.4Ghz Pentium 4
    GPU: nVidia GeForce 6800 GT
    RAM: 1024MB DDR2 RAM
    HDD: 160GB Maxtor
OS: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2)

And yes, I do realize this is probably the WRONG place to be asking for help, but whatever.

  18. Me and my boyfriend grabbed two floor tickets to Nine Inch Nails the other night which is absolutely awesome this close to the conert. We checked just again just because we were curious if there were tickets left period, and we saw floor tickets so we grabbed them. Previously when we checked the best they had were seats on the 2nd floor clear to the left of where the stage would be.

We ended up ordering chinese tonight last night due to laziness. Kevin's enjoying his control pad he got for his PC to use on his emulators, I've been enjoying my new computer chair and laptop speakers.

  19. tell me what you think I guess :P I may have posted an older version here once, but this is newer.

  21. Two days ago, my cheek swelled up, because I slept on my face wrong or something. Problem is that since then, I haven't been able to eat, talk, or even swallow without my back teeth clamping down on it.

So now I've got a cheek with swelling that won't go down because it has a raw sore on it that keeps getting bitten, and my jaw hurts like hell because of constant attempt to contort it in such a way that it won't do any more damage.

I challenge you all to relate something more grating than this.
