    Doom Timing

The absence of features are absent? ;) I have to say that the fact that someone even made a Wiki entry for a specific Doom speedrun (as opposed to runs in general), let alone use it to implicitly disparage the run, surprises me. o.o

My '''pure evil'' wad in progress

I think it looks perfectly hellish; I don't think a level has to include SP_HOT or snakeskin or whatever to count as hellish. :P But then, everybody's entitled to their opinion.
  3. Something like similar to Quake in concept, where you go through episode after episode of horrors ranging from the merely gothic to the hellish to the Lovecraftian, each episode having its own consistent theme-- again, like Quake, only without Episode 4 sucking (or being the final episode, for that matter). A storyline that's not intrusive but provides a consistent mythos and set of objectives. I think Quake 2 and Doom 3 did acceptably well in this regard. Things that change in the game world based on actions the player takes. I was very disappointed when the decision to send the transmission in Doom 3 seemed to have no effect on how the subsequent areas played out. Several of these plot points sprinkled throughout the game, with drastic gameplay consequences either way, would make me very happy. Bosses that are intriguing but not frustrating. A boss should never take the player more than a few tries to defeat unless the player has some sort of impaired motor functioning. Multiple possible endings that depend on the player. Not on the level of an RPG, but at the very least I'd like to see a good- and evil-aligned ending, similar to the original Jedi Knight game.

    Megawad speedmap

I think you misunderstand what is meant by "speedmap."

    Open Letter to Doom Fans

The thing I can't get over is, why would id sell the movie rights to someone who was going to take a shit on them? It's not like id was strapped for money. They could have held out for creative oversight or something. Meh, whatever. I should picket the film when it comes out or something.

    What am I doing wrong?

Seems to be fixed now. Seems unneccessarily complicated and obscure, but it works now. Thank you both for your help. :)

    What am I doing wrong?

Thanks to those who have replied so far, but I'm still a bit confused here. Let me explain in detail what I did... What I did was to start XWE, load up AV.wad, select the flat in question (AVFLAT05), do Entry -> Save As to export it, load up my own WAD file, Entry -> Load to import it, and put it between the FF_START and FF_END markers. All of this was done following the Help system in XWE. Where in that sequence of operations did I go wrong, and what should I have done instead? But it IS a flat. Or at least it was a flat in the original WAD, and I want to keep it as a flat. So I'm not really sure what you guys mean by this. *confuzzled*

    What am I doing wrong?

So I'm building a map. And I want to use a couple of custom textures/flats (from AV.wad, but I'm pretty sure they're originally from Heretic and UDoom.) I used XWE to make a seperate texture WAD with all the textures I wanted (all 3 of them). I loaded the texture wad up in Doombuilder, and everything seemed to be fine. It let me select the textures and flats, and they seemed to show up fine in 3D mode: http://students.jccc.net/~pbayless/doom1.JPG But when I load up the level in ZDoom (63a.cab) one of the flats in particular seems, how you say, messed up: http://students.jccc.net/~pbayless/doom2.JPG So what did I do wrong, and how do I fix it? Apologies in advance if I'm overlooking the obvious and/or wasting anybody's time.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #203

Where might I find these, pray tell? In particular, I couldn't seem to find A Furry Tale in the archives. Perhaps I just don't know how to look.

    Most annoying moster...

*de-lurks once again to defend the Cyber* Man, to me that sound is one of the coolest things about him. I always love hearing that sound in a map because it means that somewhere nearby is a Cyberdemon for me to fight... mmm. Yummy.

    Spiderdemon or Cyberdemon?

See, now, that's funny. My feelings are almost diametrically opposite to yours. When I come across a cyberdemon in a level, assuming it is well used, I get an enormous kick out of fighting it and killing it. I would much rather have a 1-on-1 duel with a Cyber than be subjected to the (massively overused IMO) 'swarm of revenants' scenario, for example. Just my thoughts.
