    Emergency Doom

Where is that old site that listed DooM mentions and appearences in movies and TV? By the way, in a recent (for Australia) episode of Stargate SG1, there was a small mention of DooM. It was in series 8 episode 6 - Avatar. SGC. SCIENCE LAB. Teal’c is again in the chair preparing to go into the game. LEE: Thanks to Colonel Carter’s new code translation programme, we can actually monitor your progress through a graphic representation of your point of view. CARTER (to Teal’c): You’ve played Doom. TEAL’C (smiling): I played Def Jam Vendetta. Nothing much, I know, but it's a mention nonetheless.

The actual link to the Dm-Symmetry entry is: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=12877

    The /newstuff Chronicles #202

Finally got my username back after like, two years. Anyway, the link to DM-Symmetry is linked to the entry for Knee Deep in the Waste. I've noticed stuff like this in several Newstuff articles. Seriously, doesn't anyone test their links anymore?

    Deathmatch Timeline

Be nice if those old IRC logs could be provided zipped as well. I'd rather download a meg or less of zips than 10+ megs of text files.

    We Love Carmack!

Shorter?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm getting fucking sick of "Shorter games with richer, deeper content". Over too fucking soon, leave you wanting more.

Newer Doom 3 Video At E3

I just hope that there aren't too many scripted sequences used. Too many scripted bits hurts replayability.

    The Community's Chest

Sounds interesting. How about a status update on Daedalus?

    DWBS

I do use a download manager. The absolutely ancient, but good Gozilla 3.5. All newer versions are bloatware shit. And it reports 3ddownloads as not supporting resume. With their unique key approach for each download, I'd guess it'd be hard to achieve anyway.

    DWBS

I'm bumping this to get a little attention to these problems. Shouldn't have edited my old post as I did a couple weeks back as then no-one would see any new posts. Anyway, as I said, the 3ddownloads page for TwiTerror's Back to Sandy's City song isn't working right. The link to bring up the queue window just jumps the browser to the top of the page when clicked. And could Ashley Carr's DooM II remixes be split into two files? 3ddownloads doesn't support resume, and this can be a problem for some on 56k and session limits. There are also a couple broken links, Such as ILP's Doomix and Selvagens' Doom.

    Good to hear!

Clever Play on the Word Torment

Eternal merely used some textures from Heretic/Hexen, and most levels were medieval-ish in theme. No more than that.

    UAC Everywhere

I tried running it and I got no picture. It doesn't require Media Player 9 does it? No fucking way I'll put that on my machine. I prefer it when my media programs DONT dictate what I do with my media files.

    DWBS

What I'd really love would be a remix of Signs of Evil (E1M8), with piano and a really despairing, solemn guitar. Basically like a full version of the end of Jamie Robertson's UltraViolence. All live, of course. A couple links are broken. The 3d downloads page for that TwiTerror - Back to Sandy's City song doesn't work right either. Oh, and does someone have a resumeable mirror of Ashley Carr's DooM II music? I'm on five hour session limits and dialup, and 3ddownloads doesn't support resuming. So unless there is no queue, and I get best speed, I can't possibly finish the download.

    Daedalus: Alien Defense

Hope the music's good too. Some of the Icarus music is among my favourites.

    Speedy Speedsters

The download links for the first four speedmap packs are broken, but the files are stored in the same location as the rest.
  16. No, I am not talking about that Painnation thing from a week back. I recall, about a year or so ago, I saw a 3d emulation of E1M1, done with flash. I'm pretty sure it was in the site news. It had the basic level structure and the doors just moved up and down constantly. It ran like hell on my older computer. But back then I didn't have access to the powerful machines (probably for CAD purposes) in some of the labs in the local university. But I can't for the life of me find it. Anyone have any ideas? Also, has anyone had any trouble running Lars T Boye's DooM II pinball table in Visual Pinball? It used to work fine for me, but now when I try to start a game (after putting in credits), it says there are errors in the code, specifically to do with the bumpers. The copy I used worked perfectly before. I even redownloaded the table and tried old and new versions of VP, and with different machines, with 98, 98SE and 2K Pro. No luck. On one machine though, it did have issue with a different part of the code. Weird. The last time I checked, Lars' site wasn't there.
  17. Are you certain? It said the file ID had changed (understandable, as it has been a couple days), but it lead to the zip file for STRAIN.

    Doom In Flash?

Does anyone remember what happened to that 3d emulation of E1M1 done with flash? It was in the news here about a year ago. All the doors just constantly opened and closed. It ran horribly slow (at least on my system). I can't for the life of me find it. I'd love to try it out on a much faster computer.

    Randy Is Alive

I wonder if TeamTNT will still release Daedalus after ZDooM 1.23 final is released. I hope they haven't completely given up on it.

    Midi trouble...

Most days of the week, I do volunteer work at a nearby community centre, which entails sitting around on my arse in reception and answering the phone. So I chucked a bunch of games on the reception computer. One problem is that it doesn't have a proper midi device. IE not the standard, normal one that is intalled with windows. Instead it has an "enhanced" (using the term rather loosely) software synthesizer. I have to select General Midi to run anything with it in dos games. I want to hear the music as it is supposed to be heard. Is there a way to copy the normal synthesizer from my home computer (win 98) to the other computer (98 Second Edition) with minimum of fuss? This is keeping me from playing through the hundreds of DooM add-ons I've burnt to CD.

    Midi trouble...

There are only two synthesizers. The one I have already mentioned, and another (possibly roland, I'll check tomorrow) that has not elicited any response when playing any midi. The computer is a prepackaged compaq POS, so it probably doesn't have anything in the way of special hardware synthesizers. I just want boring old, bog standard midi music.

    Star Trek Arena

There ought to be a poll on the site, make the TC Star Trek or Red Dwarf. I'm for either, leaning a little bit towards RD, if only because it has been done little if at all before.

    A New Spring

Sorry about the triple post. Back to midisyn again. I tried a midi that was definately not from wintex. It illegal opped about 8 seonds in, as opposed to getting nowhere before. i tried another, and it didn't crap out, but I aborted after a while, and it had done only 9 seconds, so it probably stopped working anyway.
