  1. We had a stellar playtest session, and generated a lot of constructive feedback as we head into week two of the project! Still time for new additions, and plenty of time for any tweaks as we move forward!
  2. It's time for the first big Hordamex playtest, just one week after we opened the doors for mappers to submit maps and maps-in-progress! We'll be running an online playtest here starting in a few minutes with the crew from the Hellforge, running through as many of the twenty-eight maps as we can! That's right, twenty-eight maps have already been submitted in the short time the project has been live! If you don't have Odamex, you can download the source port here: https://odamex.net/ I always recommend Doom Explorer as a general launcher and server browser for any of the multiplayer ports, you can find it here: http://doomutils.ucoz.com/ As for the server details... • Server name should be [WDL] doomleague.org - Hordamex Playtest • Alternatively, you can launch Odamex, pop open the console, and type in or paste the following: connect Maps will automagically download through the client! Let's rock.
  3. But wait, that's not all! We're not even done with the first week of the mapping period, and there's been even more COOL STUFF™, this time showcasing maps by @electricbrass, @RonnieJamesDiner, and @RastaManGames Feast your eyes upon only a handful of maps - and a preview of a couple custom monsters - of the ones that we'll be playtesting this weekend. If you're interested in giving Odamex and its accompanying Horde Mode a try, keep an eye out on the server listing around 5PM EST this Saturday! And of course, if you want some mayhem to go along with it, jump in the Hellforge where there will be a public voice channel as everyone cheers on the last marines left standing against the Horde! While you're there, maybe you'd want to throw in a map or two while we still have some time left... ;)
  4. Love what people have done even so far! We'll be getting some more resources together as we approach the July 10th mapping starting line! While mapping officially begins then, we've already had some eager submissions for playtesting, check out what we have from @Velvetic, @RiviTheWarlock, @Alfredo so far! If this is what they slapped together in the early days, think about what you can do! Let us know if you have any questions about this format or even better, jump in the Hellforge discord and join the mayhem! We'll be having online playtesting where we run through all the submissions as we hit the weekends coming up! Are you going to be the player who beats the wave or are you going to be one of the corpses on the ground? Let's rock.

      No worries, if people ask for source of stuff that's not my edits I'm like "idk I'll find out tho" if I don't know offhand, I'm not looking to rip off people's work, I know how much effort goes into this stuff


      We have a new version of Odamex coming out soon that will debut a new PvE mode and if we slap together a monster based on your sprites for an add-on monster you will be credited as a source

    Infraworld - Coma Moonlight

    It was quite a nice playthrough! I liked the verticality and the fluidity of how you went from place to place. The only issue I seemed to note was in this hallway, the square grates in front of the lights are not impassible, so you can kinda phase through them, just an oopsie.

    Kernel-mode anticheat is a huge nope

    As an MP enthusiast for a super long time, unfortunate to hear, I was enjoying Battlemode without cheaters. Judging from their post, they seemed concerned about the future prospects of their MP goals, namely Invasion and their unnamed "competitive initiatives". While I agree with all of their bullet points on a fundamental level, pulling back in the face of an overwhelming reaction on social media and review bomb fronts was probably the best move at the end of the day. Great example of needing to educate the playerbase for your title with a 15 paragraph post about an entirely different realm of gaming (in this instance, anticheats) before implementing them, and also providing a fallback option for players who have zero interest in MP functionality. While recognizing that Battlemode and by proxy any future MP is back on life support, I realize the concerns of SP and MP sides are in direct conflict with each other, and hope they can provide an amicable solution in the future. Good transparency in their post. It's a shame the overreaction of the community blasted the reviews of the game instantaneously rather than waited for any official response. Always do your own research, and not trust the top rated reddit post or whatever equivalent other garbage you read on the internet. Look for the smart people's blogs and stuff about ACs and implementation. You know, the people who have degrees in the stuff. Google is a tab away. Shame on people here who haven't done their due diligence.

  20. I'm a sucker for universal mods that spice things up, great stuff.
  21. I like your ambition with taking on functionality changes, I did a several map runthrough to get a feel for it. I really love the faster weapon response time, it's such a nice quality of life change, I like the chaingun although lacking the tap accuracy hurts for taking out chaingunners long range so you don't get mulched, but I suppose in this mod you could use the shotgun for that. I didn't really try it. Shotgun in general seems a lot more useful than vanilla, where you'd mostly crush everything with SSG. I found myself using the SSG on only the meatier targets I could take down in two or three shots with it and using shotgun most everywhere else, and chaingun for crowd control. The faster plasma projectile is nice and would probably make me use it more rather than just hoard cells for BFG 9 times out of 10. I've grown a liking recently to monsters hitting a lot harder (mostly due to playing coop on that hard doom mod) so that's probably affecting this judgement but I feel like monsters are way less of a threat currently. Pinkies attacking faster is a big plus, but moving slower removes that threat from reaching panic levels. Overall I like what you're doing so far. A couple hiccups but the weapon rebalancing makes me think and as it stood during my brief run I was using a much more varied assortment of weapons than what I normally would, after I got a handle on the changes. It's kind of a fun not so serious mod. It feels like it makes it a bit easier overall, so might be nice for someone playtesting this to pair it with Scythe 2 or something that on UV tends to ramp up the difficulty fast. e: Was gonna omit because you said you were putting in a toggle for the player's weapons, but the horizontal autoaim on the bullet weapons as it stands kinda sucks for picking targets out of a crowd you wanna eliminate first with the shotguns. If you're keeping the tracer player weapons I'd definitely look at fixing that.
