    there are several really good songs, and some that aren't so great but i feel that way about the original doom music, too. i don't care for the slow atmospheric crap. gimme fast paced metal-feel and i be happy.

    yah i cant get deutex to work for me. it always says wadinfo.txt can't be found but it is right there in the dir that i reference in the iwadpath argument obviously i am doing something wrong

    that harpy looks sweet. every time i play blasphemer i think "the imp should be a harpy not a green booger" i guess i wasn't the only person thinking that. the ogre looks killer too.

    what is the status of development

    the pr for the version of octo edited by HorrorMovieGuy says there are conflicts, but last activity was 10 days ago, including what appears to be preliminary updating of the entry to manual. i am assuming it is gonna happen, just hasn't been merged for whatever reason. i am not too hip to the intricacies of github tho. i am still all for turning the manc-fleshslime or whatev into the lavamander edit. it looks so cool. also, what about replacing the ss officer (spanish sailor) with an actual enemy and put it in freedoom levels? is there some reason why this would break use for playing community wads? but i am a player of freedoom, not a contributor.

    ok i just reversed it and it this time changed the pitch up 1 octave. it is "all the so-called linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux". i assume that is what richard stallman would say if he was the boss of hell. (bossbrain used to be stallman's head a la romero's head if you didn't know) you cant attach sound files here, but you can do it yourself in audacity in a few seconds if you wanna hear it

    serpentipede is cool. i don't think it similar to fleshworm at all other than the slithering. although the serpentipede-centaur silhouette is cool. serpentitaur? my suggestions (and i am no real artist, so the talent will do what the talent wants to do): boots on pistolzombie, shotgunner, freedoomguy, etc..... they should be slimmer in the side anims imo, thought it is very minor gripe. fist needs entirely reworked to have no glove and come from the bottom of the screen. manc-blob needs more.... definition? the design itself is ok, it just doesnt have the details that other sprites have. but i really like the lavamander-manc Korp posted in other thread. and i think the boss brothers have got to go. every time i see them i have flashbacks of Marathon and i cut myself to dull the pain. but if i am advocating for working lavamander into manc replacement, then what am i advocating the boss brothers get changed to? i dunno. i just realized the boots are fixed in the newer git build

    There a bunch of Colab notebooks, which are free but slow. https://colab.research.google.com/github/justin-bennington/S2ML-Generators/blob/main/S2_VQGAN%2BCLIP_Classic.ipynb is an example Then there is https://www.artbreeder.com/ which is free but paid for hi res downloads. but you can ai upscale free in lots of places https://nightcafe.studio/ is free 5 times a day (you get 5 free credits a day and can buy more) if you know python you can run VQGAN + CLIP and similar algorithms offline, it's gpu intensive but might be faster if you got a beefy gpu. it's hard to set up if you dont know what you are doing. i say from experience, because i dont know what i'm doing and i couldn't get it to work :p there are others, artbreeder and nightcafe are what i use edit: also replicate ai https://replicate.com/pixray/text2image https://replicate.com/dribnet/pixray-genesis https://replicate.com/dribnet/pixray-vqgan and browse https://github.com/topics/clip-guided-diffusion and https://github.com/topics/vqgan-clip for variations of algorithms, many linked to colab notebooks.

    i think the techbase to hell progression from doom is fine. and horizon kinda has to be hellish to use as an iwad for community wads. i like the idea that agm is evil interdimensional corporation, you are imprisoned but escape (possibly a wolf-like cell with a dead pistol zombie for the start of e1m1 could be added?) horizon is a hellish dimension. agm is using some sort of infernal hell energy to make mutant warriors and fuel high tech weaponry. atleast that's the story in my head when i play. but i am nobody :p

    i totally agree with tomas7777 about the foss appeal. for some of us that is minor thing, for others it is a major consideration in choosing software. i also think that while freedoom's "main" objective is to let ppl play community wads, it has since become it's own thing in alot of ways. i have said elsewhere that i prefer playing wads with freedoom iwad. except when the wad only modifies certain sprites and not the full animation set, which results in imps turning into serpentipedes when they die and things like that. textures in freedoom are almost universally better. and i also enjoy playing freedoom phase 1 & 2 as their own games. i personally think talent would be best directed where it is needed, ie some of the freedoom enemy sprites and alot of the blasphemer enemy sprites, as opposed to trying to make zauerberer playable. but talent will go where it wants to, and as Gez said most talented people are wanting to do their own thing, especially since the hipster kids are currently all agog over retro fps games. look at hedon bloodrite, age of hell. they are basically doom TCs. freedoom is as much a foss TC as it is a way for cheapskates to play doom wads. i can't imagine anyone not being able to afford the gog versions anyways. and i think in 2006 when freedoom project began, digital versions of those old games were harder to come by, unless senility is kicking in again. i think most of us that like freedoom and blasphemer like them for reasons other than wanting to play wads without buying the old games.
