The End of the American Century

and Chinese soldiers shouldn't be tarnished for killing thousands of unarmed students? I'm sure it was Hitler himself that was gassing and burning and burying alive all the jews during his "cleaning" process. Many citizens knew what was going on. Since they were disarmed there was not much they could do, even if they wanted to.

I'm proud of you. Not a single insult... you didn't even make fun of the fact i misspelled aryan.

agreed. One of the few things i remember from 8th grade history class was the Boston Tea Party. My comment above was not ment to say that disarming them the only reason, or even the major reason, but it was one of the reasons... and one of the final straws. Just like the t-shit says "when they come to take your guns be sure to give them the ammo first"

The End of the American Century

It's just a little recession. Hopefully it will do us some good. I need the house prices to drop in the bay area. Something is wrong when $250k only buys me a 3bed/1bath 1300sqr' house in the crack rock neighborhoods. But on the up side maybe some lunitic will raise Germany back up to "the superpower", then the arian race can go hunting unarmed europeans....oh wait... that already happened....... twice. No I think if the US fell China would roll through all of Asia, then set its sites on Europe.... what countrys would try to stop them? History has proven that most countrys try to stay out of it unless they are directly involved. I don't think any Europen countrys would want to piss them off if China was promising it only wanted all of Asia.

"No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." Thomas Jefferson, Proposed Virginia Constitution, 1 T. Jefferson Papers, 334 (Julian P. Boyd, Ed., 1950). See more discussion on this quote HERE. "And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the Press, or the rights of Conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms;…" Samuel Adams, Debates & Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (February 6, 1788). "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms... The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure." Thomas Jefferson to William S. Smith on Nov. 13, 1787. The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, ed. Julian P. Boyd, vol. 12, p. 356 (1955). you can read more at www.saf.org here is "Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of taking up Arms, July 6,1775" http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/D/1751-1775/war/causes.htm

    Gun control

from ---http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_1471000/1471716.stm ---- 08/2001 The BBC's Zubeida Malik says that at a meeting this week, officers reported there had been a 100% increase in firearms-related crime in the capital this year. seems to me it's getting easier to get guns in some parts of europe..... humm.... gun....control? what did your history teacher tell you about the US? Part of the reason we started the revolution was to stop the red coats from taking our guns. Why would we then turn and take them from ourselves? dsm --- thank you. You are one of the few people on this board that has disagreed with me without stooping to a 3rd grade insult level. I almost can't belive the board admins allow some of the posts in this thread.... but then it occurs to me where i am. I am on doom world arguing (mostly) with a bunch of 8th graders. ---Never wrestle a pig; you both get dirty and the pig likes it.---

    Gun control

Is that all you got? I knew better insults in the second grade. you should let your parents know their hard earned money is being wasted on your "college" education. Oh... on the flip side. You have changed my mind on gun control. People as immature as you do not deserve the right to own a gun.... that is if you really are over the age of 12.

    Assisted 'Suicide'

agreed. Assisted suicide should only be allowed if the person can not physically do it on their own. If someone dying of cancer that can get around on their own wishes for an "assisted suicide", too bad. Run your car off a cliff at 110mph, or go skydiving without a parachute, Wile E. Coyote style.

this is probably old news but....

lizardcommando- don't let the idiots get you down. There are a few on this board that do nothing but insult. Your post was clear and to the point. It nailed the subject on its head. It even gave me a few flash backs of highschool. Mostly of one of my friends that took a good beating from some "homie" claiming he was a "blood" that transfered out from San Fran. We were worried to give him the payback he deserved because someone told us he was "strapped". deadnail- hard lesson. One of my best friends went through a similar situation. Only his freshman year though. He got beat down daily, his coat stolen on cold days, his shoes stolen, etc. Til the day he snapped. He fought back against 4 brothers. He hurt one of them good enough to make the other 3 beat him bad. The next day he went through the same process. And the next. By the second week of this he was starting to learn how to fight and his hands were more bruised then his face. After more than 2 weeks of this they started to leave him alone and pick on easier game. When I became friends with him he had no fuse on his temper. Only now (8 years out of highschool) that he is married with a kid on the way is his temper starting to relax. No one should have to go through what you (and he) went through.

this is probably old news but....

agreed, except the #1 should read "assorted anti-depressants the parents allow, and the doctors prescribe the kids to take", and the #2 should be the media glorification. That's silly too. Yeah...just look at whats going on in the middle-east. (You blow up my country, I blow up yours). You do realize that the only thing this 'war' is going to bring are more terrorist attacks, right? And they can only get bigger... I leared in highschool how to defend myself.... a little. Only had a couple fights. Nothing to brag about. It was after i got out of highschool that i learned the advantage to the "bigger dog" theory. One of my friends (a tough little guy on his own) used to tell me... "i never met someone tougher then my 10 best friends". I later modified this to fit my situation. One of my best friends had a real anger problem at the time (he has some control of it now). He was not the toughest person in the area... but he trained with a few of them, and there were a few times he got jumped by 3 or 4 people and came out with only a few scratchs and bruises (mostly on his knuckles and shins). So in response to the quote above, if you have ever studied human nature, you know that if you let someone get away with something small, they will try for something bigger. If you let someone beat the hell out of you once they will think they can do it again and again. Where do you draw the line? If someone beats me up, one of my friends pays them a visit, and breaks them. If i get a black eye, they get a broken jaw. For my bruised rib, they get 3 or 4 broken ribs. For my bruised elbow, they get two broken arms (ever had to have someone else wipe your a$$?, i hear it's a humbling experience), etc. If by us going after the terrorist that destroyed a landmark to our nation, and killed many innocent people brings down more "revenge" upon this nation then SO BE IT! One of my former co-workers, and friend, still has much of his family living in Afghanistan. So yes, i belive we should be careful not to hurt the general population, but I am not going to say we should back out and give up if a few bombs stray and kill a couple innocents. When fighting cowards that hide from open fights our troops have to do what is necessary.

you really think we haven't sold hundreds of these to other countrys? this is an interesting arguement. The guys with AKs tend to think that they are the end all be all of rifles. I am at the other end of the spectrum. They are a nice rifle, not the most accurate, but still accurate. They can take a beating like almost no other. I like my M1a. It is a knock off of the m14 the service rifle used before the m16. It fires a .308 instead of the .223 used by the m16. But i dont understand you generalizing the rest of the world using the AK-47. Many countrys use other weapons such as the FN-FAL, the Galil, and many others. Most weapons are designed to fit the climate around the troops.

True, but the US has the big guns. In modern society, its the size that matters, it seems. Just as a side comment: not you again.... x_o The US has the big guns? We have guns that China, Japan, Russia, and other "world powers" don't have? You must be kidding me. side note... sorry, couldn't leave it alone.... i am a glutton for punishment. ;) This is a valid point. And could make for a good argumemnt. I personally think that the world (most of it anyhow) sees the US as the world Police. Every little country that needs help (financial, military, training, etc.) crys out to the US for aid. Usually we require a few trade offs for the help. Such as allowing us to build a military base in that country so we can have a good foot hold in the area. There have been many mistakes, i dont disagree with that. But I think anyone trying to argue that we have done more harm then good needs to check back into the loony bin. So the real question I see here is should the US contine to play "global Police"? Or should we explain to little countrys such as Kuwait that they are F&cked. just my $.02
