Since the N64 could handle the DOOM engine so well, could it also handle Build?
aboyes1989 replied to TasAcri's topic in Console Doom
I always assumed Duke Nukem 64 just ran on a modified/optimised build engine, as it plays very much like the PC version. More so than the Saturn port, which plays like crap. I mean, technically it runs so smoothly, and looks great, but it doesn't have the weight and feel of the build engine, which I think Duke needs. -
If Lego were to make sets after classic doom maps, what sets wouldja like to see?

I think I've just realized something about Doom's plot...

Why is everyone speculating about Doom's plot? Just read the first two Doom novels. It even tells you his real name in them. -
People always rag on the blurry textures of N64 games, and the low resolution overall, but this looks brilliant. So sharp. Great lighting too.

Grey sky on Phobos. That's a new one!

I prefer the dark ambient soundscapes that Aubrey Hodges created, much as I do Trent Reznor's Quake soundtrack. However, I do remember, as a kid I had the Bon Jovi 'Someday I'll Be Saturday Night/Good Guys don't Always Wear White' single and I used to blast that on repeat through media player whilst playing Doom 2.

It's based on Wolf 3D's, but there is so much more going on in ROTT that I think a lot of simplifying to the levels and gameplay would have to be made. I've not played it for a while so I can't remember how big the enemy count is or the texture variety, etc. The gameplay itself, however, is bonkers and fast paced, so I wonder how that would translate to a Mega Drive/Sega CD port.

I always preferred the Doom 2/PSX Doom box art look of Doom Guy. They are the renditions I am most familiar with, but I just think they look cooler too, even the hair.

Bloodshot. Ah I love that game. Great aesthetic and atmosphere.

I was thinking about the various ports of Doom and the ways they differ from the PC original. Then I wondered how different 'Doom' could have been as a franchise if it had instead shown up on a console first. What impact could this have had on not only the game and any sequels, but its impact on gaming history? I thought the obvious console for its first appearance would be the Atari Jaguar, as it runs very well, it has a great gritty look, whilst still maintaining a detailed image and nice resolution. It plays very well, despite the less than ideal controller. It's not hard to imagine Doom being completely built from the ground up as a Jaguar exclusive. Then you have other ports that were derived from the Jaguar code. The most obvious being the PSX release. So, it's late 1994.. the Jaguar has been hyped to hell but is not quite the technological powerhouse it's been made out as.. But then DOOM hits.. We can either assume id still developed the game, but put stock in Jaguar being a big thing so they shifted resources away from PC to get into the console software market, or some new developer was responsible.

Would there be less controversy over this release if it had been called something else, instead of Final Doom? I get the criticism, for sure. The box implies you are getting Final Doom, a port of the PC maps. Instead, it's mostly the Master Levels. Would it have been a wiser move to actually release it as The Master Levels? Or to come up with a new subtitle altogether, something generic, like 'Annihilation'?

Indeed, it has what, five? Despite the strange map set, PSX Final Doom remains my favourite Doom game. Love the atmosphere, and I think the levels that were ported over are some of the better ones from the PC WADs.

Yeah, I reckon so. I like the look but it could have had more to it. -

Ironically, it looks a lot like the unofficial doom WAD discs from back in the day.
