Oh right that one, sadly I don't have that map anymore. I wasn't too far into it, so not much was lost. It was one of those maps where I hit a dead end soon after I started on it. I could always build one again :)

I really can't remember honestly. I think I did make some attempts before with red and black textures, but have no clue for which project that would have been. Don't think I ever released anything with that color combo before. Chaingunners would be murder in an area like this :p I think I will put the flying types of monsters supported by Imps and Knights/Revenants. Think I'll reserve the tougher battles for the indoor areas. Thanks for your input :)

Seems this area will be good for flying enemies, don't think a large battle will work well here, cause like you said there is indeed not alot of room to manouver.

Finally after quite some work I can say this area is pretty much finished, thought I would never finish it. Okay, I took my time, but filling this area with rocks took me quite a while. I tried my best to make the rocks looks as natural as possible. My initial idea was to create two buildings with a rocky canyon inbetween, so I succeeded in that. Altough some parts didn't turn out as I would have liked, but don't want to remove it and start over either. I have no idea how to implement gameplay in an area such as this, so thats another challenge to overcome. I think I'm putting way too much effort into the design of the map, which is always something I run into when designing maps. Starting to get mixed feelings when I'm working on it, am I on the right track here?

    First map for Doom 1..

It is good, perfectly fine for a first effort.

    First map for Doom 1..

Its his first map, what do you expect, be more supportive instead of making comments that would discourage him to keep making Doom maps.

Gave this one a go, I'm enjoying the first few maps, I'm not too far into it yet. One of those megawads I completely missed :(

I haven't played it yet. Any special reason why I should check it out? There is still tons of maps I need to play.

Those red brick pillars look a bit thin, like they would not have been able to support the structure above it. Think widening them would make them look better. Love how you took the effort of aligning all the bricks, good job.

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.

I'm using UAC Ultra textures, the liquid is a brighter lava flat present in the resource wad. Like Not Jabba mentioned I put up a couple of screens in the screenshot thread.

Doom map making in the 90's

RGDoomed by a company called "Renegade Graphics" just had a look on the cdrom. A full cdrom version of the editor would have cost you $50 back then. Think I even send them a letter, but got no reply. Basicaly the first level editor I used for Doom :p

Doom map making in the 90's

You be surprised what you can make with just 25 sectors.

Last days progress on my Entryway inspired map. Only just started drawing the first couple of areas, and slowly started building the rocks the player has to traverse to get to the other side. This is a new area I'm adding which isn't present in the original map. So far so good.

Do you have a favorite personal work?

Honestly I don't think I have anything that is my favourite personal work, I'm known to be hard on myself. But some maps were nice like "Riot Control" and "Toxic Waste Processing Plant" And also "The Hive" from NDCP2, still a pretty cool looking map. I think those projects were projects I really enjoyed working on, and the maps turned out really nice. Thats what I like, projects you enjoy working on from start to finish. Unfortunately it doesn't always go like that. I just enjoy building maps, thats what it is all about for me. It just gives me a kick being able to create something from an idea that I have in my mind.

    Your favorite colors in WADs?

Red and black probably, perfect colors for a hellish map.

Still resembles some of the original room, without making it too identical.

The tonemap I use is the Reinhard one, stumbled on it when I was messing with the settings. Before that I never heard of this option before. I only recently started using Gzdoom, usually I test my maps with Zdoom.

I use a tonemap that comes with Gzdoom, thats it really, and alot of gradient lighting. I'm not doing anything special to achieve this look. I guess its the combination of the tonemap, lighting and textures that gives you the Quake vibe. I'm not aiming for a Quake look, it just turns out like this, I shut part of my brain off and just enjoy building rooms and see what results I get. Its really tricky to get into that state of mind when I'm mapping, when I started earlier this evening I was really struggeling to get into it, now its flowing nicely. Listening to industrial/techno music also contributes to the look of this map. Always difficult to switch between projects, cause you mind is still set on the other map. Or I'm just talking rubbish here now, and I should rest for a while :P

Making more progress on my Doom 2 "Entryway" inspired map. So far I'm liking it and progress goes at a steady pace. Only just started on this room, its the area where you grab the green armor. Screenshot could have been better...

Do you map on a pc or laptop?

Desktop, but a laptop would be nice so I could map at work or when I'm relaxing somewhere outside.

    What's your worst Rage Quit?

Broke a Playstation once, long time ago, couldn't beat the game so I slammed my fist on top of it, didn't turn out so well for the Playstation. And my cd player where my Playstation was standing on had a big dent in it. Also snapped several Playstation joypads in half. Threw game cd's accros the room making them shatter in many pieces. Also punching a TFT monitor several times, it could take a beating but eventually it broke as well. I'm not proud of telling this, sucks that I've done these things, could have put the money to better use instead. Haven't broken anything in a long time thankfully.
