  1. Emulators aim to preserve the processor speed. It would not help the 'performance' case.

    Quake

Well, it actually still retains the classic software renderer and doesn't do anything retarded to it. This picture says everything:

    Limitations of PSP Doom?

Well the GP2X isn't quite the same - it's not marketed with millions and it's not the cool handheld to pimp in grade school and in your local ghetto. When FitzQuake was ported to the PSP with fog abilities, the pandora's box opened for shitty quakepowered unoriginal copycats. And you thought those unauthorized cellular phone/pocket pc 'ports' (read: modified doom2 iwads of copy and paste) of Heretic and others were bad!

    Mega IWAD 200X

Nope. It's rejected because it is directly derived of Doom resources and maps (E1 is still there), and he's full of himself excessively self-promoting it as an official all new game of his own. Just because it's shareware and you can download it for free-as-in-beer does not mean you can do anything you want to it. It is copyrighted, not-public-domain software, protected by law. Freedoom does not use a piece of DOOM2.WAD. If it did, it wouldn't be Free Software.

    Limitations of PSP Doom?

Had it been any less lame, you'd see a ton of psp homebrew cloning commercial games down to their IP by ambitious kids plaguing the forum right now

    Don't copy that floppy...again!

Todd went after the older Q2 incarnation which directly converted models, textures and maps from Quake. It also had Doom maps with their original textures. This was a huge red flag.

    Quake

Then replace sound/weapons/guncock.wav sv_aim 2 DarkPlaces can support 'fake OGG cd tracks' and even tracker modules so you don't necessarily need the CD for music. The lovecraftian inspiration, rocket launcher and the Shub stand out pretty symbolic to me. Sourceports? DarkPlaces for almost everything (DP can sort of be vanilla-looking). For Vanilla, it's either TyrQuake or WinQuake. For Quakeworld (which I rarely play since everyone just CHEAT TO WIN) I use Zquake. There is no chocolate quake port. There are several differences between dosquake and winquake, most notably a differing sound attenuation range, tweaked VGA video modes, no endoom, memory, etc. Good maps? I recommend: - Beyond Belief. linky - Prodigy Special Edition (HINT: A certain CASALI worked on this!) linky - Zerstorer: Testament of the Destroyer. linky - After the Fall. It's an early ambitious TC. linky - buying the two official Quake mission packs. They also have their own CD soundtracks done by Jeehun Hwang. - buying Malice. Closest Quake equivelant to Hacx you could say. I also recommend sitting back and spending a few hours watching the entire Nehahra movie, in Darkplaces, with r_letterbox 32.
  9. You can also get high from php.

Keyboarders, how do you configure your keys?

arrows moves ctarl fires period coma strafes space opens enter uses item shit activates run brackets select items I can't adjust myself from this, though more modern keyboards jam with this layout a lot Sometims I even do Quake keyboard only. It's beautiful.

    Creating custom graphics

Paint Shop Pro is good too, and affordable, and works great with palettes. (If you can find it) PSP3 is the minimum for serious editing in PSP. It starts getting really great by PSP5. PSP7 starts to feel bloaty. There are shareware versions of PSP available for you to try.

    Creating custom graphics

That's a inhouse tool that remaps colors en masse iirc (it was a pain enough to do that in Deluxe Paint one frame at a time). Not a real paint program.

    9/9/9

    2036 will get there first.

    Ubuntu sound fixed.

It's still latent. Attempts to 'fix' the sound issues by removing Pulseaudio often backfire into removing critical unrelated components, thanks to poor dependency.

    Creating custom graphics

But resampling to indexed color from true color is always a ugly result. id did use Deluxe Paint indeed for the graphics. No adobe software was involved in the making of Doom. (Except for a later Doom's credits screen, which has obvious Photoshop 2.5 light filter)

    9/9/9

OpenArena missed a potential 0.9.0 release for 9/9/09 mainly because i'm no longer keen on silly release dates. Can still shoot for the upcoming 10/10/10, 11/11/11 and 12/12/12 though

Where do I find Catacomb 3D or Fantasy?

Catacomb 3D can be found on the Vintage disc of the id Anthology (along with Hovertank 3D, Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion, all six Keen games, and Catacomb!) Fantasy i'm not so sure about. The only way for that is to somehow contact Softdisk directly as they usually shit these on the Big Blue Disks.

    Any updated Quake monster images/models?

As far as new Quake models go: - an unanimated new fiend, abandoned for Tenebrae. - a new shambler by Randy that's not very shamblerlike. This was released. That's it. You should forget it and stick to the originals since no one will ever outdo them respectably. Not even the 'all new enhanced skins' for the originals are any better.
  20. Yep Also did a bit for the staff. The projectile hit effect isnt as impressive as the rain splashes though (and I only did the color red for now)

    Chocolate Doom

This also happens in non-SDL games (Try Winquake). This is nVidia's fault. It has happened for new drivers for the entire Geforce line for a very long time (2005). The only workaround for this, is to show the game into some 24/32-bit video mode so modern video hardware doesn't whine.

    Ubuntu vs Windows 7.

Ever installed an ATI card? How about a 4/5.1 sound card?

    Ubuntu vs Windows 7.

I think Ubuntu itself is fine for what ti is, it's those young little spreading evangelists that promote it for being free/3d cubey that i'm nervous about. Some even go their way to sneakily install the OS over a working fine Windows install on their parent's machines. They're a bigger problem and would do more harm to Linux's userbase than benefit it for alienating users of other OSes (well, "Windows" seems to be the only 'other' to them) for their pricetag vs. free alone. I do love Free OSes though and there's nothing wrong with being free, but not when it's broken up and spread like it's the next best thing ever only for being free. But hey you get what you pay for ;), though IMO the usability level of GNOME hasn't reached Win9X usability yet, but the excuse for that is "Linux isn't Windows", though...
