  1. Back in November I kept proposing this awesome radmad idea to deat and tomd but they said maybe but they're lazy so i'll do it. The challenge: Making an awesome rad mad song using only the samples used in Hsien-Ko's stage from Night Warriors/Vampire Hunter, which is strictly oriental and has kung fu vocals. The song could be of any genre. The song can even be a cover of a classic rock, new wave or early metal song (SUPER ENCOURAGED) Get your samples here in this .it file. It's all set up for you with loops and thingies so all you need to do is make patterns and jam random notes on them like you're aphex twin or something. RULES: ~~~~~~ - As many channels as whatever - Don't change the samples - Don't add samples - Format can be MOD, S3M, IT or XM - You must use the first 3 samples (voice) at least - Covers allowed - dont' be lame like loading your old work and replacing its samples - MIDI IMPORTS OBVIOUSLY NOT ALLOWED The deadline is February 6, 2007. Results will be posted and the voting will start then. Voting will close in February 9, 2007. And like mod compo #3, vote like this. +3 - zoran of death +2 - advertising agency of the plastic spork promotion +1 - thomas dumbface -1 - (the secret brightskins of) alex mack The negative can be optional if incase you're a christian or something. Also as an added bonus if your mod crashes WinAMP you get +0.002 points if a tiebreaker is needed.

    for historic/ (Hexen)

http://leileilol.mancubus.net/doom/lost/hexdemo.zip It's the old October 4 beta demo. Some funduke or funduke clone should upload the zip as-is and make a TXT file to accompany it. I wonder why this isn't on idgames.

Your favorite PC games with midi soundtrack

Hmm. I'll throw this out there: Cybersphere + OPL3 = aural goodness

What would you like to see in a web browser?

I'd like a web browser that doesn't suck more than 10mb to display text without any crap going on. I remember when Netscape 4 suddenly got 10x slower than 3 and hardly had any advancements. It's like this slowdown bug was never fixed in any mozilla branch.
  6. ...recreate Doom v1.2's source with Heretic's old changes against a (Linux)Doom 1.9? Granted no DMX, but heh v1.2 demos playing back and official random pitch shifts. Maybe using Chocolate Doom or even the Heretic DOS source for it.

Is it possible to... (Heretic source)

In '94 Jim Dose made a decent DMX clone called ASS (Apogee Sound System), which had more of the same features DMX had and was released under the GPL also (with ROTT and Duke3D sources). It's too bad id never went under the Apogee belt for Doom to use that one heheh ;)

    doom palette in heretic

It'd be better if the engine was coded to re-translate another palette to the current on the fly on load. I wanted to do this in Quake too.

Gzdoom GL colour Error - what is it and how can I stop it?

Change texture format to rgba8 and turn off mipmapping. It's corrupting the mipmap somehow and your driver doesn't like it.

    Doom-like graphics

Correctly would mean using Deluxe Paint II in 320x200x256
  12. The real difference is that Doom2 uses AASHITTY and Doom uses AASTINKY. There you have it!

What gamma level do you use?

I use 1.0, but in the 90s on a dark 15" I had no choice but to use 3 (1.3)

    Fire main weapons

Reading this on the Doom wiki, i've noticed: You should know Doom's setup program was derived from Raptor: Call of the Shadows' (which explains the Cygnus Studios copyright in the top right corner. Cygnus has yet to release Raptor at the time). Cygnus, of course would transform into Rogue Ent. and make Strife later with their engine. Raptor's setup program, no not even in April 1994 they even fixed "the" or even matched the descriptions on the actions right: Raptor has "main weapons" and "special weapons", therefore the 'tip' was only relevant for that game only which was in development at the time Doom 1.0 shareware came out. So, I hope that clears that up. It's not a missing feature from Doom. (Though it would've been cool if you could hold two guns at once, chainsaw and ssg, with dual mouse support (turn on screen edge) and 3 screens anyone? ;D)

Halo 3 : ODST Launches Tuesday

Heretic, and even Lethal Tender. Lots of players and vehicles playing online? That innovation goes to Starsiege Tribes. That crappy shooter "XS" from 1996 does draw a lot of similarities with Halo. - Two guns only - Ammo counter on the (sprite!) guns - Off hand throwable grenades - Blocky characters with specular shading - In-game disembodied female hud voice ( a british Cortana that states the obvious in the dullest cyberpunk brit cybgirl way ever) - Blue transparent hud - "Shield" system

    wrong

    Wheels of Time .wav pack.

Legend Entertainment, as they've made the original game the pack was shamelessly ripped from (which anyone with a legal copy of the game can do themselves by using UnrealED that ships with it).

    Maps based on real locations?

With the availability of Google Earth/Maps and I wonder why more of these kinds of maps haven't start existing yet.

What do you love and hate about Doom 64?

The reason for that was explained in previews - to keep the performance with crowds of them good on the N64. I'm glad they aren't models, as nobody in the 90s knew how to make good 3d models, not even id software. (until early 99 when they got serious with steed and scott)

    Awesome Vanilla Doom Ideas

Someone didn't read the readme. You have to mount the CD-ROM drive first. It is not automatic, unless you shove it at the end of dosbox.conf. DOOM works fine in DOSBox with sound. Run SETUP.EXE first. Virtual PC's DOS emulation is terrible. Badly emulated OPL3 FM is stuck in 11khz with timing issues and unavoidable input delays and screen update delays make it unfun.

You mean like that very site is doing? MS-DOS never shipped or booted from CD officially.
