  1. I made a mindless blog before this one that was removed at my request, but here's to an issue that's somewhat troubling. There's the scientific theory that oil is abiotic and that it's renewable and constantly being formed below the earth we just have to look places for it we never dreamed of looking. Then there's current scientific fact/Truth that oil is the result of ancient fossils being broken down trhough layers of sedimentation.

There are claims however that oil has been found in the geological scale (the amount of distance which determines how old that particular layer of rock is) beneath points which predate the existance of fossils on earth. Still the current belief goes that it's limited. Which means eventually we're fucked, and the world shall change.

Osama Bin Laden/AssFuck, whatever you wanna call him, believes that Saudi Arabia should be selling their oil at 200 petro dollars. Petro Dollars, being American currency, which is the currency used worldwide for purchasing/selling oil. The belief is that oil prices right now in relation to amount of oil left in this planet are being artificially priced. Of course it's only speculation. The Saudi's also have a saying "My father rode on a camel, I rode in a car, My son rides in a jetplane, and his son shall ride a camel."

US, is pressumably in the middle east right now to secure what's left of the oil in that region. Now what happens when there's little oil left? It'll pretty much be like it was 70's in terms of gas prices only 10 times worse. The stock market will crash. Commerce will fall apart. A great depression will insue that will rival and surpass the one some of our greatgranparents/grandparents lived through. Eventually global war will enuse as the nations of the world fight for the world's resources. When the dust settles what little order left of the world will apart and lawlessness will reign supreme.

People will be reduced to scavenging to survive. It'd be like living the movie MadMax. Disease and famine will kill more people. Probably 80-90 percent of the world's population will have perished. The remaining remenants of humanity will end up in a time warp relying on self sufficiency.

Now you may bring up the idea of renewable energy sources in place of oil. Well it would cost trillions of dollars to replace the usage of oil in the energy sector, and production of products that require oil will skyrocket and eventually cease production.

This could happen anywhere between 5-10 years now, maybe not even in our lifetime. But if oil isn't actually abiotic, the majority of humanity is most likely doomed, with the remaining living in a more primitive society. Of course this is all merely speculation and I really hope it's not the case. Remember to enjoy what you have right now, it might not be like this forever.

When crude oil gets to scarce more countries and places will start to use oilseed rape, hemp-dervied oil and 'gasohol', which arent as good as crude oil, but can be refined to make the chemicals that we most need (petrol, medicines, plastics), and they are renewable, being plants. All of the stuff derived from Crude oil is made up of Hydrogen and Carbon, with extra bits added on in the refining process, hydrogen is the most common chemical in the universe, and carbon is created by burning. Some some futuristic technology, like advanced Nanotechnology, or Femtochemistry, will be able to 'make' crude oil from easily-made hydrogen, and the carbon drifting around which has been left by cars and industry over 150 years or so.

And in the meantime we can always use steam power, heh. Coal is expected to last about 50 years longer than oil

For me, the most depressing thing to come out of this thread was the knowledge that someone named their town Gary.
