    If selling alot of copies of a 3d game with simplistic/complex levels is what hypes a game beyond all belief, Im sure everyone would do it. &just woke up Actually the more I think about it, it wasnt really simple or even complex levels that made the game. Every corner you were killing monsters, almost never bored. Monsters coming from the shadows or when you pressed the wrong switch. Open a door and "whoa" 10 monsters ready to tear you a new one. Add the typical weapons like the plasma gun, dark levels, the future-like props of an "aliens" type movie with hellacious demons that are spawning from a portal through hell you have to get to, and you have a doom type game.

    Those games dont give the same atmosphere as a "doom" environment gives. You can still give a doom atmosphere without using "sprites"...eg: doom 3, although from the screen shots they tend to fall more toward the resident evil side of things the way I perceive it.

    No, What you DO with those graphics is what I see. I thought being that you guys are developers of maps you could see the opportunities and options involved. Utilizing special effects and 3d environments to bring your maps MORE TO LIFE, rather than a fully customizable sprite engine. Which true enough, If you like the limited means and how your characters dont look quite as real as you would have liked, thats fine. I just see enormous opportunity to make a more life-like map than any sprite driven map with loopy 256 color sprites could do.

    as far as making wads that are all goofed up and look like a carnival and other wads that are knock offs of wannabe quake 2, half-life, wolfenstein maps....and there is gameplay? ugh its still runs off the same engine, your using the same gameplay.... unless your changing the gravity or something, You cant do too much to doom except change around a bunch of sprites from other games to make it look different or change colors of monsters and you guys call that original? gameplay? alot of it looks like a kid just sat down and tried to make an unrecognizeable doom. yet people are saying doom is more alive and kicking with modified drawn versions of the game on sprites that someone sketched in with ms paint as opposed to just doom with amped up 3d models, textures and effects... Very contradictory

    If all you have is my title to pick at.... your really only holding on by a ledge. Alive and kicking?? Thats why the only people who are defending zdoom are map designers who share their designs with others? Because a gamer would usually "prefer" the newer graphics? I dont see wolfenstein 3d kicking it as much as half-life or quake 3. That goes for Doom 2 as well, except for of course....the map makers. In that case have a ball, keep designing on your c64 in basic and share it with the others who are designing with the 256 color palette. Pong used to be the greatest thing too.... what ever happened to it? All your doing is flamming and being completely blind to the fact of what options this port offers. Who said you couldnt design a map with Jdoom? Its not like the port cant be used with modified regular doom 2, heretic, or hexen wads. Half the moded maps Ive played for zdoom including the prized "void" that everyone ranted and raved about was hyped up originality but with super mario like/cartoon looking graphics. I dont care if mario can jump, skip, sing a tune, and do handstands.... If he still looks like an 8 bit sprite, Im not going to be impressed.

Besides.... its not anyones fault you own a fisher price 56k modem. Do yourself a favor and throw it in the trash, and get high speed internet, or clear up some bandwidth. Not like we are running bbs sites on our 9600 baud modems anymore. Before you do tho, count the pixels you see on the left hand pic.... now count them on the right *lol*

    Im not looking at it from a "creation" perspective but more as a "gaming" perspective. gameplay from the best selling 3d shooter of it's time advanced snazzied up graphics to enhance it's "feel" doom2 resurrected basicly Even though there are limitations to regular doom2 map editing. Im sure that zdoom's port has many limitations as well. there is infact always a limit to creativity via a parameter based 3d engine.

    Why so many complaints if you dont "care"? lol After all this time you finally realize that my opinion of why jdoom dominates or owns is just an opinion, nothing more. REGARDLESS OF THE MAP EDITING FEATURES<<<<<<<<my opinion....again but then again.... who cares? right?

    When have I "not" grasped the concept of what zdoom can offer over other ports? The comment was indeed sincere. I know how much work goes in to making a map and it takes alot of frustrating upon frustrating hours to create what you have invisioned....and even then lacks due to the limitations.

    It would take a creative (noncreative?) person to allow doom to not be "fun" to play. More like a downgrade which I dont see how jdoom does. As far as why you like it is your deal, Just as much as I like the new port because it brings back the old days of doom when I first bought it. Why modify perfection? So you can have a bunch of unrealistic looking sprites that you "changed" to show originality of an already top selling game? Your creativity is your deal, I dont think the game was originally purchased for editing, or your creativity thus making it only your opinion. The graphics are substantially better than zdoom's. Maybe I should make a side by side comparison of the 2 just to show you how many pixels you can count.

    That quote was based on the 386/33 quote and your poll you want to take correlating with why you would even use that quote. misinformed about the editing of a map yes.... as far as game port engine i have been informed about the mapmaking ability of zdoom. Yet just because I know how to program games in basic doesnt mean I will get a player's attention no matter how good the story, edit-ability is. If graphics arent that important (ive never knocked on gameplay at all during this forum, you guys just took offense off the bat)why are 3d gaming engines trying to achieve the most "real" look possible? wolfenstein - isnt that cute? doom 2 - decent for it's day at least as cartoon looking as wolfenstein Return to Wolfenstein - Nice textures but polygon looking Doom 3 - textured, enhanced models, bump mapped, highly detailed and of course doom3 will fade out with a replaced engine with more options, gameplay, and graphics/special effects.

    You might want to use a memory test program called memtest to see if you have any flaws in your memory (hardware wise). A flaw in a memory stick can spell doom (no pun intended) for any application being run and even xp reboots randomly.

    Im not saying that YOU have a 386....wow this is such a sensitive forum. It was a general comment. Not to anyone in specific, as Ive seen alot of forums about jdoom complaining about the resources it takes, compatability, slow downs, memory hogging...etc. Props to anyone who did any bit of work via not only jdoom, but zdoom alike. (this is getting tedious restating the same crap you guys overlook and still bring up)
