I never liked/used it in the first place, so therefore I have no conceivable reason to criticize this.

Interesting that pretty much every response in the thread answered a different question than the one that was asked.

Just upgraded my GPU for the first time since 2017. Got a 3080 Ti XC3.

I guess the answer to the question of "why would anyone use Metaverse" is "they wouldn't", and they're just hoping their investors are too lazy or delusional to realize this.

Can someone explain to me what their grandiose vision was for VR? I've yet to hear anyone explain how VR was going to be anything more than a small niche in the video game market. Why did a dying social media company think this technology would save it?

What control schemes do you use for Wolfenstein 3D?
AndrewB replied to THEBaratusII's topic in Everything Else
Trackpoint (joystick between B,G,H keys on laptop) for movement and left-right touchpad buttons for fire and strafe. Left hand basically only needed for weapon switching. -
Why is there invisible officers in the secret level of Wolf 3D's Episode 4?
AndrewB replied to Technicolor's topic in Everything Else
Wolf 3D has no maps. The maps that you find online are generally screenshots taken from the level editor. Like I said, the designer of this level put blood on the walls to help you find the exit. -

Also, you don't have to memorize the map above. Just follow the path that has the blood smeared on the walls, and it will take you in that direction. -

Apparently this is the intended path through the level to avoid being overwhelmed. -
Microsoft Office retiring in 2023 - replaced with Microsoft 365
AndrewB replied to Wadmodder Shalton's topic in Everything Else
I'm doing everything I can to avoid products-as-a-service. I just bought and activated a copy of Office 2007. Now is a good time to start hoarding software-that-you-own while you can. -
Last night I dreamed I was in a room full of elfish creatures shaped like letters, except they weren't letters from the alphabet. They would transform into entirely different letters and colors about 10-15 times per second, and they would make language sounds unlike any language I have ever heard. Then I woke up and saw various shapes continue to flash rapidly inside my eyelids.

Lenovo has some good hardware but some terrible software.

I might actually sign up for the website as a result of this.

ISSUE : Downgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 7
AndrewB replied to Frost-Core's topic in Everything Else
Any time a common action requires more inputs or more time/effort than before, that is a downgrade in the UI. Once you have 10 or 20 of these little downgrades, the OS itself becomes a significant downgrade. UI matters. -
ISSUE : Downgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 7
AndrewB replied to Frost-Core's topic in Everything Else
Linux is a complete no-go for anyone whose time is even remotely valuable. When one very common program or service fails to install, be prepared to spend dozens of hours on a goose hunt searching through utterly cryptic troubleshooting for a problem with no certainty of a solution at all. If you're so paranoid about "staying up to date" on your OS, then there's nothing preventing you from keeping all your hacker-sensitive stuff and latest and greatest hardware on a Windows 10 install for your games, while using a different machine with an older OS for all your other day-to-day stuff. -
ISSUE : Downgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 7
AndrewB replied to Frost-Core's topic in Everything Else
I continue to use Windows 7 on multiple PCs without any problems whatsoever. I fully encourage the OP to follow through with the "downgrade" to Win7. -
Windows 11 to require an online account for ALL installations (including Pro)
AndrewB replied to MFG38's topic in Everything Else
You can get an extremely powerful system that is 100% compatible with Windows 7. Just maybe not with all the latest gen hardware. I recently purchased a 2011 model i7 laptop with fully upgraded SSD and memory, and it's surprisingly capable. -

How likely is it that my MIDIs will be absolute crap?
AndrewB replied to DamTheGreat's topic in Everything Else
100%, but the chances that people will pity you and tell you how great your compositions are is also 100% -
Uh, exactly in between the two

Another Pair of Dr. Martens Boots Are Falling Apart
AndrewB replied to act's topic in Everything Else
Look into Rockport boots. They're expensive, but my current pair is only now starting to develop cracks after almost 10 years of heavy use. Don't bother trying to salvage garbage footwear, just throw it away. -
What do you trink about "Ghosting" ? Or it's possible with good intentions?
AndrewB replied to D4NUK1's topic in Everything Else
I can give you the perspective of "the ghoster". There are times where I've ignored a person who repeatedly showed interest in connecting with me. There are various factors that go into whether I do this, but it basically boils down to this: The other person has given me absolutely no indication that they're capable of understanding things as I explain it to them, and often they've shown a tendency to misconstrue my words, or to recall things I've said in an inaccurate way at some point in the future. I judge that these people are less likely to understand their faults if I explain it to them, and those faults often extend far beyond comprehension issues. Ghosting them will at least give them the possibility of judging themselves, which I believe is much more powerful in the long run than being judged by other people. Tldr: Being ghosted by me is a sign that I don't respect your intelligence. -

My little indie retro fps just launched on steam
AndrewB replied to radian's topic in Everything Else
Yeah I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the engine is a copy-paste from one of the open source Doom ports, certainly not "custom from scratch". If that's not blazingly obvious to you after watching his gameplay video, then we'll have to agree to disagree.
