    Doom related longplays requested

I can't reach doom2.net at the moment, so I can't check the Compet-n database, but I don't think I would find any suitable demo there, because they're all played as hard as possible or as fast as possible or in Tyson mode or whatever. In a nutshell, they're competition entries. The longplay definition in itself is not precise enough to rule out such demos, but when I hear "nostalgia, preservation, walkthrough", I expect movies that demonstrate the game in its default form (default skill level and so on), not played as fast as possible, on nightmare skill or with the -turbo option.

@PimPamPet: Thanks a lot. Not very spectacular, but adequate I guess. @Jodwin: Yes, but the fact here is that I'm not interested in recording anymore Doom longplays. I've done my share, and I was looking for someone to take over. ^^ @K!r4: I should have a look at that demo. Thanks for the tip! @Bucket: Indeed, there are lots of C64 (http://www.c64-longplays.de/) and Amiga (http://www.recordedamigagames.org/) longplays too. Love that little yellowish breadbox.

    Thanks. Fixed it. ;o)
  4. Hello everyone. I'd like to tell you about the Longplay community. As stated on longplays.org, "A longplay is a play-through of a computer or video game, created with the intent of completing it as fully as possible, mainly for the purposes of nostalgia, preservation, and possibly as a walkthrough." So basically, longplays are videos demonstrating video games. Lately, I've recorded longplays of Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders and Hexen. Some viewers have asked for a longplay of Final Doom, Strife and Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel. I don't feel like recording those, as I've other projects in store. So if you're interested in adding to the longplay community, you're very welcome. You don't actually need to be an exceptional player (I'm certainly not), as longplays are more focused on demonstrating the game and being entertaining to watch than highlighting the player's skills. You don't really need to know a lot about video editing (I didn't know anything about it when I started recording) as you can refer to a detailed, step by step tutorial posted in the Longplays.org forums, and the admins are always happy to help with recording problems on their IRC channel. Note that recording a game is time consuming! Recording Heretic Shadow of the Serpent Riders took me something like 40 hours in all. In any case, you may want to have a look at the existing longplays (they're also posted on Youtube for your convenience) and laugh out loud at my blatant mistakes. :op Hope to see you long time Doomers among Longplayers... ;o) JonL

    Favorite first level music

Descent level 1 tune remains my favorite (appart from the title tune). Same for "The Wheel of Time". On the other hand, I can't stand Doom E1M1 and Doom 2 MAP01 tunes anymore. And although I love various tunes from Hexen, Hexen 2, Heretic 2, Unreal, Quake and many others, I'm afraid they're not from first levels. Comb : this means for me your theory does not fit.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #199

In Lab at Deimos, the blue key appears only on UV (as does most of the ammo). How nice ! :( Fortunately it is pretty easy (even for me).

Equisite Corpse looks really great and was quite fun to play ! But what really made my day was Phobos Revisited !! As I said before I love E1 and this tribute is really good indeed. And in my opinion, it does NOT mimic E1, it is a great levelset in its own right. The design is more detailed than the original, gaining an atmosphere of its own thanks to new windows and doors where you don't expect them. The secrets are on the harder side, but you still know they're out there, so you know where to look for them. I finished E1M2 with 66% secrets although I could swear there was nothing more to find. The best E1 remix around for quite a while. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm back to the game !

    Do the Doom... Movie

My god ! Looks like this guy is also doing Spy Hunter !! Remember Spy Hunter anyone? Or maybe it's this one? (I don't which one scares me the most) I hope he won't be doing Pacman too ! Edit : Sorry, already posted somewhere. Forgot to check beforehand. :(

    Tritese

Same problem with vent 2. Had to noclip to enter it. Boy, those Lost Souls must be the most annoying things in the whole game, especially when thrown at you 5 at a time ! >:( But what really bother me is that I wasn't scared at all. Feels more like Doom gameplay to me. Do I like that? Not sure yet. Other than that, the level design is very good. There's more glass in this map than in the entire Doom 3 game. Looks very nice. :P Oh, and next time, modders may want to indicate in the text file how to set the difficulty.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #195

Nice week, interesting wads, Tremor is cool and so on... What do you know! I'm a total sucker for E1 remakes, and E1M5:R is really a good surprise! Looks so nice and plays fine (although a bit too hard for me, poor clumsy old guy). Keep those remakes coming pleeeaase ! :P

    Doomworld Does Doom 3

The Mars base levels don't provide much variety, but on the other hand, the Hell levels tend to produce the opposite effect. Every room and cavern looks very different. Although each of them features excellent design, putting them all together fails to create any atmosphere. IMO they lack some sort of unity. I don't know why, but I was somewhat disappointed by the hellish "theme". To me it looked quite kitsch. Then again maybe my hopes were too high. Oh well...
