    How tall is doomguy?

Wait... has anyone asked John Romero about this? Until he weighs in, I don't think we'll ever have a real answer. I would think it's something he would find important.

Going Through The Serious Sam Games Again

I guess I kind of mentioned that in my last post in passing. The enemies are generally good at leading you. Calculated upon where you're currently going, they can fire at where you'll be by the time their shot reaches that location. That's why it's important to constantly be looking around the arena, changing direction, and focusing on the enemies that need dying first. And focusing on those that need dying, but they can wait until primary targets are done. The game forces you to constantly be moving in combat and observing what's going on around you, and noticing what new enemies have gotten spawned in the area. I for one actually love the downtime between fights because it gives me time to look around, explore, find that +health in the corner that makes more enemies spawn, or that little jackass joke. I think it's fun. And others mileage may very, but I think it's a very competently designed shooter. The only thing that I think I would change, is make Sam slightly faster. Not much, and maybe I can do that in Fusion, I should look at that and see how it works. Just a +25 or 35 percent boost to speed. Things can outrun you pretty quickly, but the game is still beatable and plenty of fun without it.

I do want to be clear, or Kleer. The Kleer do not have a homing attack on any difficulty level. It may have looked that way because you had many Kleer attacking you, and you were strafing sideways so it looked like they curved, and maybe the FOV you were using added a sort of fisheye look so that it appeared that they were curving towards you. Or it might be the fact that they can throw snares through each other, so you were looking at the one that thought hit you, but it was the one behind it that had started leading you. And they can stop and throw again pretty quickly as well, so you may have dodged one, but it stopped and threw another one. The only enemies that do have homing attacks are the Aludran Reptiloids. The Rocketeers may appear to be homing on you, but they just fire really slow projectiles that travel along the ground, so you might run into them. But no, the Kleer do not have that ability, but I can see how it seems like it. I've been there, but when they're in a large horde running at you and they start flinging those bolas, they seem to come from everywhere. Which is why I think they're one of the most enjoyable enemies to fight, they keep you on your toes all the time. But having one charging for you, and you dodge to the side and catch it with a double barrel as it sails past is very enjoyable. Really the only enemy I hate is the Werebull. Because they always put so damn many of them in at the same time. Those are the tanks of the game, and they irritate me. I can't risk using an explosive, because there's probably going to be another two charging, and I'll kill myself with splash damage. But I can't use the minigun or plasma rifle because it kills them too slowly. The hardest fights I've ever had in a Sam game was an arena that gets filled with Werebulls. Imagine if in the next game they make Kleers that can ride Werebulls, so they charge full speed, but they're throwing bolas the whole time. That'd be a hoot!

How do you handle your Mouse?

So you're keyboard only? Please don't take that the wrong way, but you left yourself wide open. Anyway, I use the manta, and I never really thought about it, but yes, people do use mice in different fashions. It basically just boils down to what feels more natural to you. I guess, thinking about it, I've kind of vacillated between the claw and the manta (if that's indeed what we're calling them). Sometimes I do move my fingers back a bit, into a claw for a particular shot, but it's rare that I would use it. But when I play a game, I'd rather just have a good time and relax. So the resting part of manta seems more naturally. And maybe that comes from the fact that I started using a mouse when I was a kiddie who had to rest their hand on the edge of the desk and palm it to reach the keys, and it just went from there. I do definitely use my thumb as a claw though, because I have side buttons I need to reach. I think it depends on your mindset, and the game. If you're playing in a gaming league, you want to do everything as effectively as possible, and have all of your fingers available to tap the 20 different buttons on your mice. I just like to relax and play a game.

    How tall is doomguy?

Tom Hardy is 5'9" and he played Bane, who's 6'9", so miracles can happen. But Doomguy is either super short, or the zombies are super tall. If we're going by his eye level, he's looking at the shoulders of the zombies.

What happened to blogs and post hell

Yeah I don't know if I should've even posted that. I don't know if it comes across as me being faux "woke" or not. I just want to include everyone, because I really don't want to leave anyone out, because we're all humans worthy of attention and affection. And losing someone, that I cared about, who decided because they weren't "normal", chose to leave life. I'd hate to leave someone out.

What happened to blogs and post hell

I hate to double post, but I don't think I have a choice. Doomworld really seems like an odd mishmash of people from all walks of life, and it doesn't seem like it would be a place where level-headed people would congregate, and yet it is. I joined in 2001, when I was 16, and I'm still here. I've certainly lived quite a bit since joining, and I joined because I found Knee Deep in the Dead in my high school library and it got me re-interested in Doom, a game that I first played in 1994. Now I'm in my late 30's. I'm sure there's plenty of people here in their late 30's, plenty of people in their 20's, and even new people in their teens, plenty of people in their 40's, and 50's. Even 60's. Hell, Sandy Petersen posts on the forums. (Hey Sandy, love your levels, Episode 4 of Quake was amazing. But screw you for the Spawn). Lee Jackson is a regular as well, love your music Lee. The game, and especially these forums, seem to attract a certain type of person. I'm not saying we're special, but it's always seemed to attract people that are decent. Willing to listen to others, and just not be shitheads. That's not the case all of the time, but in general Doomworld seems to attract decent people, and that's why I've been here for 20 years. I love you guys and gals. Edit: Shit, OliveTree posted after I said guys and gals. I love all of you. Guys, gals, trans, non-binary, doesn't matter. We're all just people.

That was exactly why they were chosen. And that's been stated before. There's no actual meaning to them. You can attach meaning to them, as I have, but there's no intrinsic meaning behind them, so it's fun. I just think of this post from DSC: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/2111387 So that kind of solved it for me.

I really don't pay attention to how other people use them, that was just an explanation of how I do it. So we're definitely cool Bio, you seem like a really decent person.

They don't mean anything other than what you ascribe to them. I have my own method, but it really doesn't mean jack shit. Soul sphere is a general "like". The Mega Sphere is "This is really important, and I like it and agree with it", the Invulnerability Sphere means "you can't argue with this statement, it is a fact". The Invisibility Sphere, I don't use. Because funnily enough, like you, I would use it as an insult. I hate that item, and I avoid it at all costs, because whenever I pick it up I end up taking more damage.

"It's funny you say there are better places to do random self-indulgent brain dumps than Doomworld, because after three decades of Interneting I think I'd be tempted to argue that at the end of the day DW has actually been among the more inclusive and supportive online spaces I've experienced, all things considered. I would have to agree with you, Kid Airbag. And I'm sure that's why you came back, and that's why I keep coming back. It's a damn good community, and there are some genuinely good folks around here. It took me a minute to remember why I recognized your name, but I'm glad to see you back.

What happened to blogs and post hell

Blogs were replaced with status updates, because if you really want people to know what you're thinking, there are better places to do it than Doomworld. Post Hell was done away with because people started posting idiotic crap hoping to get their shitpost put in Post Hell so they could brag about having some idiotic thing they posted put in Post Hell. They've both been gone since 2017.
  16. Hope you're doing okay. I know we're not really familiar with each other, but you seem like a good person. I really hope things are okay, and I honestly give you my best wishes, and that's all I have to give.

Going Through The Serious Sam Games Again

You've basically described Serious Sam in a nutshell. I fell in love with the game when I played the demo, and then bought TFE in 2001. It was a wonderful throwback to 90s shooters. At that point shooters were aiming more for modern styles, more military shooters like COD and Medal of Honor, or campaign based like Halo. So to have a simple, straightforward shooter like Serious Sam, available for $20, was wonderful. You might not like it, and you shouldn't force yourself to like it. But when it came out, it was something special.
  18. Wait, that's more of a parody. So I'll go with Anarchy God and the State mix.

Going Through The Serious Sam Games Again

This will be a double post, and I'm sorry for that. The first half of BFE was meant to be a modern military shooter, and there are rumors that CroTeam was actually in talks with id for working on Doom 4. That why we got the Scrapjack: Does he remind you of anyone? But the first half is pretty meh. The last half is where you really get some classic Serious Sam gameplay, and it's when it really gets enjoyable. I mean, they put the laser gun in as a secret weapon, and if you miss it, it's gone. The same for the sniper rifle. I wish I had kinder words for BFE, it was fun, but I had to fix the game to have fun with it. Because they started out making one or two games, and ended up making a Sam game.

Going Through The Serious Sam Games Again

I will have to agree with this. BFE laid a dirty turd on a great franchise. And really I only finished BFE by modifying the weapons. I buffed the pistol so that it was comparable to a .50AE, so any beheaded would die in one shot, reduced the magazine capacity from 10 to 7. Then changed the pump shotgun so that it fired slugs, it would fire one shot instead of multiple, and the one shot would have the same damage as all the projectiles. I couldn't hit multiple targets, which was a nerf, but the targets I hit felt it. And changed the double barrel so that it would fire with a wider spread, much wider than it originally had. It still worked on a single Kleer, but I wouldn't fight a Werebull with it unless you were standing right next to it.

Going Through The Serious Sam Games Again

I would say they're probably just not for you. I love them, well TFE and TSE, and Sam 2; and I did find quite a bit of enjoyment in BFE and Sam 4. They're enjoyable games if you enjoy what your presented with. If you don't like areas with countless hoards spawning and you don't like switching weapons depending on which enemies spawned, and you don't like backstepping and dodging enemies, and switching to a double barrel to take down that Kleer that's about to pounce, then switching to a rocket launcher to take out the Arachnoid on a ledge, and then sniper rifle to take out those harpies. Then yeah, it's not for you. But I think the games are fun. But I can really see why someone wouldn't like them, they can really feel like a slog at points. But to me, they're a fun slog. To each their own.

I'm not going to Google it until I reply. My best guesses would be Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett. Googled: Fuck me. I need to watch that series again.
