Thanks for that link, I did a search for the subject but couldn't find any posts about it. I never upgraded to XP because I never had any need to, as everything always worked fine for me, so I figured, why spend the extra money? I knew Doom wasn't recommended for ME, but I thought maybe it would still work with it anyway, since I'd never read specifically that it would not work with it.

I was trying to decide which part of my system to upgrade first, and it occured to me that maybe it won't run at all on Win ME. Will I have to upgrade to XP to play it?

You can write it out in 4/4, but it can have a very different feel, which was the point of this thread. And 8/4 can be a much less confusing way to write out music, and it's certainly a valid sig. Writing measures of a dotted whole note followed by two quarter notes, for example, could be written in 4/4, but it's obviously got 8 beats in a measure, so 8/4 makes more sense. You could also say that 6/4 and 6/8 are really 3/4, and while you could write it out in 3/4, why would you want to?

I'm gonna vote 8/4 I've been listening to a lot of Liquid Tension Experiment lately, and they write a lot of parts in this...it's just one of the coolest, grooviest rhythms I've heard. I also like 6/8 a lot, and you can't go worng with 4/4. If you don't know them, check out Liquid Tension Experiment, too.

Single-shot shotgun, by far, for both doom and Doom2. I don't like the SSG, because (and this might be my imagination) the choke is a lot wider, so it's pretty useless at a distance, and uses up too much ammo. The single shot is great, doesn't use too much ammo, and the faster shots make it less likely that cacos and other demons will shoot you between shots.

I was kinda dissapointed by the Spider in E4. I'd hoped that they'd make a new boss for the Ultimate release. I mean, they'd already changed the exe file a bit--it doesn't seem like it would have been that hard. Which also makes me wonder why no one has created source ports with extra monsters--especially user-defined ones, where you could list the attributes in a cfg file. But anyway--did anyone else thing this about E4? Or at least something different? I did like that the level wasn't like the rest of the boss levels (pretty much single room, just one monster). Even something like two spiders, or a cyber and a spider, or two cybers so they don't kill each other. Or after you kill it, instead of having it exit the level, it could bring out another monster.

Yup...I got Doom on Valentine's day in 7th grade. A very fitting self-gift for the occasion, IMHO.

I've been playing Doom one for years, but never actually got round to playing Doom II. I just beat it.

Haven't posted in 2 years, but my addiction is back. Been playing doom again, and messing around with Wad editors.
I made a map that I thought was really cool, but then I came here and downloaded Mock 2, and found a lot of similarities, so maybe I won't share it with anyone. I think it was good though.

I remember that Doom used to have a text file with it describing the plot of the game (you were a marine, you assulted a superior officer and got reassigned to mars.) It also explained how the demons came through the portals (and what the portals were.) I don't seem to have this file, and can't find it anywhere. If anyone has this file, please email it to me!
