Yeah, so I've been absent from Doomworld for a few months again. Well I'm still alive if not well, I'm kind of recovering from a relationship gone bad at the moment, but things are getting better I think.

Well I've spent the past few months trying to reorganize my life, wasting too much time on aforementioned relationship, sometimes drawing things... I hadn't done any Doom stuff at all until a few days ago.

Yeah, I'm still going to work on my map for Community Chest 2, I've lost a lot of time though, but I still have hopes of getting it in before the deadline. Hopefully I'll manage to get it up to standard. I also replayed through Doom 2, and started on another run through TNT Evilution today.

Doom 3 is out? Whatever... this computer nearly chokes on Unreal Tournament, let alone really new games... and I'm broke. Trying to get a new job, nothing yet though...

Oddly enough, he's bashed Doom for being "old" on more than one occasion, yet is a big fan of Double Dragon.

I was just lying down to go to sleep when the idea of fleshwallse struck me. Think about it, there's been impse, cacose, and even the occasional demonse, baronse, mancubusse, and cyberse, but how many times did fleshwallse occur to anyone?

I suppose I'm tired and will regret this post later, but at the moment, it's fun...

Well, my DSL connection got hooked up this morning. Everything seems to be working fine with it, so I can breathe easy... for the moment.

Well it turns out that I'm not going to have my DSL connection until the 22nd, now. It's just a bloody good thing I still have my dial-up for a while yet. ~_~

Yeah I always said I wasn't so good at drawing, well now you can judge for yourself.

I ordered a DSL connection yesterday. It's supposed to be ready on October 10th.

You'd think I'd be happy but actually I'm kind of apprehensive. Will everything go alright, or will things go awry?

I guess I'm one of those people that if I had been around when cars were just becoming widespread, I would have said, "I'd rather keep my horse, it gets me where I want to go". Funny because I've never thought very highly of that way of thinking. But I suppose it's just another one of those things that looks different when you're the one wearing the pants.

I was using a P2P program the last few days, and it sucks all my pathetic bandwidth, so I've had to amuse myself without WWW and IRC for the time.

It made me fairly productive actually. I did some drawing, which is something I haven't been doing in a while. I also smacked together some maps for Stick Soldiers 2, a fun little game I got recently. It's freeware and you can find it here: http://www.whitespaceunlimited.com/

I also worked on revamping my Doom 2 DM maps, and making a few new ones. Release? Not promising anything, but it's very possible... "When it's done" as 3D Realms likes to say.

This evening I worked some more on the new version of my webpage. (I took the old one down a month or two ago. There's only a placeholder page there right now). I've traded in the black demons motif for a green electronic/atomic one. The primary focus of the page is still going to be video games. Notably map reviews. Not the crappy little blurbs like I've done in the past, but full-length reviews.

Reviewing maps is a bit difficult. Or rather, fitting qualities that aren't clear-cut onto a numerical scale is difficult. Sifting through a sea of crappy maps trying to find ones that are halfway worth playing is also somewhat difficult. I'm only choosing to review maps whose gameplay is acceptable. I'm not going to be as picky as say, Team Shambler, though. I'll review a map that sucks in other aspects, as long as the gameplay isn't bad. This way I'll at least not feel obligated to play all the way through some of the worst abominations out there.

Of course, it may not have been the greatest idea to have started with the Doom 1 maps. Many of them are quite bad. But then, there are many awful Doom 2 maps also, so perhaps not. Doom 1 maps seem to have their own brand of strangeness, though. Attempts (mostly unsuccessful) to imitate the Shores of Hell, I suppose.

I did the first review tonight. It wasn't a great map. Not a terrible map, but not a very good map.

I'm not taking submissions for maps to review at the current time, so if you were planning to pimp yours here, forget it.

And don't hold your breath because there's no telling when I'll actually put any of this stuff up.

Bah. This has been a lousy day.

First off, I was reading various comments on the erosion of our constitutional rights. Now that's nothing new at all, but never ceases to piss me off when I hear too much of it.

Secondly, the strife in one of the IRC channels I frequent has continued to escalate. Some of the users, myself included, have begun to break into a seperate faction as a result of the founder's inept decisions and his asshole friend whom he values above us.

To put icing on the cake, I think I've got a fucking Blaster Worm variant. My system just began showing the symptoms (that weird reboot) but the repair tool I used claims it didn't find any instance of the Blaster Worm on my computer.

Well, I just reinstalled Windows last night, and most of the annoying software glitches in my system seem to be gone. I'm even able to run JDoom now without it slowing way down, even with models. Kick ass.

Edit: And Doom Connector works now too!

I've discovered today that there are a few things wrong with my computer. Make that, a few more things wrong with it. Now it's been "quirky" for a while, but with these new additions, it's getting closer to just plain screwed up. I'm going to have to do something about it pretty soon, unfortunately I don't know what yet.

Things currently wrong with Draconio's computer:

- Refuses to acknowledge video card's acceleration capability.
- Buggered MSIE, trying to reinstall it only made things worse, as now programs are bitching that it is not installed.
- Broken CD-ROM drive doesn't read discs reliably, sometimes it just spins.
- Double-clicking on a folder icon defaults to "Search" instead of "Open", annoying but tolerable.

I was playing ZDaemon this evening and some idiot came on and started flooding the server, causing the game to lag to an unplayable state. He did this for a few minutes before leaving, after which play was back to normal, thankfully. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get logs of it.

What a jerk.

I decided to update my avatar again. Once again, I drew this myself on the computer, pixel-by-pixel and animated it.

It started out with just the little ninja and his akimbo pistols. I wasn't satisfied with the picture at this point so I first tried adding splattering blood from an unseen opponent, but that sucked, so I added the creature instead.

I think this might not be quite as good as my previous avatar, but I'm going to give it a chance and see how I feel about it after a few days.
