    PSX black demons

I don't know how many of you have played the PSX Doom version but there is an extra monster in it (sort of) that is basically just a pink demon except it's completely black and shadowy looking (kinda like the nightmare imps in Final Doom), not to be confused with the black/grainy partially invisible demon. I've had Doom for the PSX for a while but I never really played it (I don't know why) but I started playing through it the other day and I noticed this demon was more powerful than any other demon in any other game (except maybe some source ports that I don't know about cuz I've never played any). Anyways, this demon takes 5 hits from the shotgun to kill. Every other kind of demon (pink demon, pink partially invisible demon, black/grainy partially invisible demon) in every other Doom game takes 2 hits from the shotty (if your aim is decent). I'm wondering if most of the communtiy on here knew about them (except people who have actually played PSX Doom). This is mainly directed at hardcore PC gamers who don't play consoles. My guess though is that they are on source ports too but I don't really know. It's just something new to me.

    retarded SNES version of Doom

interesting, I always assumed a game that had auto-aim also had a way to turn it off. I didn't think it just had it built in. I guess that would make sense though and would give reason to why it's so easy to kill monsters in that version.

    retarded SNES version of Doom

There's always been one part in the Super Nintendo version I always thought was retarded as hell. On the Deimos Lab, you go through the teleporter at the beginning, go straight across up the stairs and up the lift to the area that's blocked off and you hit a switch on the wall to the right that lowers the walls. This is the part I'm talking about. I don't know how many of you have played the SNES version but they did something ass-stupid (new word?). There is no switch, you kind of have to go crazy with your use button and run around the area a switch should be in and eventually something will trigger and it will lower the wall. I always wondered about this part because the SNES version was the first Doom I ever played and the only Doom I played for a long time so I thought this was the norm. Until I finally got a copy of a better version (not sure if it was 32X or PSX). When I got to this part and actually saw a switch, I was like WTF, A SWITCH!!! Why in the world couldn't they have put a simple switch in the SNES version? It doesn't make sense to me and it will always remain retarded.
  4. After I finished Ultimate Doom on the PS Doom version it gave me my tally score and password, then some words scrolled onto the screen. After that, it took me back to the start screen and it already had Doom II selected so I assumed it wanted me to start a Doom II game. So I started the game and I was basically starting all over, back to just my handgun and normal health/armor. I was kinda like "ah crap" at the fact that I lost everything but I assumed this must be the way it is and I've played through Doom II before so I knew I could start all over again. Anyways, after I finished the first level I decided to quit my game but just out of curiosity I went back and put in the last password it gave me after I finished Ultimate Doom. It took me straight to level 1 on Doom II but I had all my weapons, ammo, health, and armor from the completion of Ultimate Doom this time. What's up with that? Why didn't it let me keep all that stuff before? Anyone notice this before? Anyone know why it did that?
  5. I don't know if this sounds odd to anybody but sometimes I listen to Doom music while I go to sleep. I absolutely love the music in the games and I find it kind of relaxing to listen to when I go to sleep. Has anybody else done this or am I just crazy?

    retarded SNES version of Doom

I liked Doom on the SNES. Granted, it's not better than the PC version or other ports but I still enjoyed it. One thing about the SNES version, it's easy to kill an enemy from extremely, extremely far away with a shotgun, unlike other ports and even the PC version. It's almost like it has auto-aim but of course the SNES wouldn't have that type of function.

    PSX Doom Command Center

I've pretty much completed the level but I still hear enemies making noises but there is nowhere else to go. Back near the beginning, where a small pillar lowers and a Baron attacks you, there is another small pillar and a larger pillar, I'm assuming at least one of these is supposed to lower also but it's not lowering. In this room, I hear the sound of something lowering and it is repeating over and over as if something is stuck. Are the other pillars supposed to lower in the PSX version or not?

    PSX Doom Command Center

Yeah, every time I have run into a Pain Elemental so far, they have gotten Lost Souls stuck in the walls. Kinda odd.

    retarded SNES version of Doom

But what I'm trying to say is that it won't activate just by walking into that area you have to do some stupid, crazy, run around and hit your use button randomly until it activates. For the most part the SNES version is almost a direct port minus a few levels. It's pretty impressive considering the lack of power the SNES offers.

    PSX Doom Command Center

Someone explain this to me. I've played through some more levels and noticed a lot of other levels have been chopped up too. What I don't understand is why they chopped most of them up. If you say it is because the PSX is under-powered to handle everything, then why does the Super Nintendo version have no chops at all in every level they keep? The same levels on the PS that are also on the SNES have more stuff missing on the PS version.

    PSX Doom Command Center

I just popped in my Xbox Ultimate Doom and looked through it. I must say, they chopped the hell out of that level on the PSX. Anyways, the second pillar is supposed to come down along with the first one and 2 Barons attack (I'm sure most of you know this). But you are right, a Lost Soul did get stuck in the wall back there too, after I killed the Pain Elemental. I decided to finish the level and I got 105% kills but I only got 75% Secrets which makes me wonder because I got all Secrets except those that were chopped off for the PSX version so I dunno.

    PSX black demons

no, I already know about the Nightmare Imps in Doom64. Maybe I'm calling them by the wrong name but I swear I saw somewhere they called them Nightmare Imps, they are completely black. Edit: ok, they're not called nightmare imps, just simply "black imps" on the Master Levels, a level called Bloodsea Keep

    retarded SNES version of Doom

Yeah, but that doesn't work in the SNES version either, I tried everything else. I tried hitting the "use" button on every part of the wall and just walking around does nothing. You have to run around while hitting the "use" button and eventually you'll get lucky and it will lower.

    PSX black demons

This demon actually has a greenish glow to it, not blue. So far, I haven't fought one with a ssg yet cuz I'm playing through Ultimate Doom but heck, I wouldn't be surprised if I came across a ssg cuz hell, there are monsters from Doom II in Ultimate Doom on the PSX. Also, I swear there is what they call a nightmare imp in Final Doom, it's completely black. I'm pretty sure it was Final Doom. Edit: Actually, I think it was the Master Levels that has the nightmare imp, cuz I played it on the Xbox and there is no Final Doom port to the Xbox, just Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Master Levels.

    Was the Doom movie good?

The Rock has done some good movies. The Rundown was awesome in my opinion and Standing Tall was pretty good too. Doom (as Kristian Ronge said) as a sci-fi movie was okay, but as a Doom movie, it mostly sucked and was disappointing as hell. It was kind of cool to see some imps, a Hell Knight, and a pinky demon. The BFG was pretty awesome (again, in my opinion) except nothing gets killed by it (MAJOR SUCKAGE) and the First Person scene was kinda neat but still, over all, as a Doom movie, highly disappointing.
  16. I have a cingular Samsung cell phone and it has this game on it called Spacewar. When you enter a new game, a song plays, and I swear it is the Doom theme song, just a little out of tone. I played it for a friend of mine who is also a Doom fan and he, too, said it sounds like the Doom theme song.

cellphone game music rip off of Doom

Yeah, I was talking about E1M1 but I have also heard the original songs to the Doom music, this sounds more like the Doom music.

How much DOOM shit do you own?

I have some pics up on my website at http://www.geocities.com/mkfanatic/ but the majority I do not have pictures for. Also, I won't lie, not all my stuff is in mint condition. Mainly my strategy guides, some of them are banged up a good little bit. The only things that I really have never taken out of the packaging are 2 of the hand held games. All the comics are in really great shape though and actually I think only 1 of the 4 action figures that I have have been taken out of their packaging, at least by me. I'm not sure about previous owners. My cards and vcd's are in great condition too. Some of my posters are a little banged up. I haven't had the chance to play my vinyl records yet so they are in really great condition too. I actually have a turn-table on my stereo but I kinda screwed it up the day I got it. You have to attach the ribbon to the roller yourself and when I tried doing that, the whole ribbon fell off and I just never fixed it cuz the ribbon is inside the dang thing.

How much DOOM shit do you own?

Wow Dusty, that's quite a collection. It seems quite comparable to my Mortal Kombat collection. In case anyone's interested : http://www.myunreal.com/showthread.php?t=73413

    DOOM movie DVD pre-order

The Doom movie sucked in my opinion and was a huge let down but there are parts that I like. I will not buy the movie, even though I am a big Doom fan, but if anyone else wants to buy it, go right ahead, no big deal to me. I believe they could possibly fix everything with a second movie but ONLY if they did it right. I still got my fingers crossed for the Silent Hill movie though. Hopefully we'll get a decent video game movie this year.

Do you have all the doom games?

Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 are not on the Playstation or were you trying to say "Final Doom for Playstation" by itself and not inclusive of "Ultimate Doom, Doom 2" ? Anyways, here's what I have: Doom (SNES) Doom (PC shareware) Doom (32X) Doom (PSX) Doom II (PC disks) Final Doom (PSX) Doom 3: Collector's Edition (Xbox) Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (Xbox) D!Zone 150 New Levels for Doom & Doom II (PC cd)

    Opinions on Unholy Cathedral

I don't know this level exceedingly well. I have only played it a few times but it didn't take me too long to beat it. The reason I haven't played this level very much is because I am a console gamer and the Doom game that I played the most was the SNES version and this level isn't in the SNES version. Now I have the Xbox version which is basically a direct port from the PC version but I only played through it once. I have played this level on the 32X but only once or twice. I'm not really sure about this but is this level in the PS version? I might have played it on there too, I'm not sure. Also, I, too, rushed too much when I played this level the few times that I played it and got frustrated by getting the wrong teleporter too many times but once I stopped rushing, I figured it out quickly and logically by process of elimination and paying attention to what direction I was facing and which teleporter I had just used from the direction I was facing. I still don't have it memorized which teleporter takes you to where so if I were to play it right now, I would still have to figure it out again. I really don't have much else of an opinion on this level because I have not played it very much and don't remember everything from it but I like it because of the challenge of a relatively unknown level (to me). Can you believe there are still classic Doom levels I have not played yet? Even though I am a big Doom fan, I am kind of deliberately putting it off because once I finish playing every level, then I've played every level, nothing new left for me to play and experience. I'm half-way through Episode 4 of Ultimate Doom but there are also many Final Doom levels I have not played yet that I really want to play but I want to wait for a console port (besides the PS port which had way too few levels from Final Doom).

    Doom demos/walkthroughs

I noticed pretty much every Doom demo is in .lmp format. I would really really like to see some of these demo's and walk/run-throughs but I don't own Doom for the PC. Do they have any videos that are just videos, such as .mpg or .avi formats so I can watch them with my video player?
