    Strange dreams about Doom

There is actually another thread about this already but I guess I'll post my dream in here again cuz I'm not sure anyone read mine: I've had quite a few Doom dreams myself. I can't remember them all, or remember them all in very much detail, but there is one that I remember pretty well. I was in a very tall building, maybe a skyscraper and I was on one of the very top floors. It was a sort of warehouse and there were these giant windows about the size of dock doors you expect to see at a warehouse, but they were windows instead of doors. Anyways, I was making my way through the warehouse killing pink demons and some of those spider things from Doom 3 (this was before Doom 3 came out but I had seen pictures of them). I was with 2 other people and we were making our way through the warehouse looking for some other people that we knew were around somewhere. After killing all the demons, we found the other group of people. Somehow, in the process of killing all the demons, we managed to bust out all the windows, from weapon fire I guess. We were standing around in the vicinity of a window, some pillars behind us, talking, making plans, and trying to figure out what was going on because the invasion just happened and we were caught in the middle of it. While we were talking, I kept hearing this noise, or at least thinking I was hearing a noise, but I couldn't quite make it out so I concentrated. As soon as I realized what it was, the sound stopped. I hushed everybody and looked toward the nearest blown out window and as I did, I heard the extinquish of a rocket and saw a red outline surrounding a dark, black circle in the night sky as a rocket flew towards the building we were in... right through the window. I dove behind a pillar and it detonated directly on the other side. That's all I really remember. For some reason, that dream stuck with me. Oh, and by the way, the "noise" I heard but couldn't quite fixate on was the sound of a Cyberdemon walking around outside in the city, off in the distance a little bit behind some other buildings until it came into eyesight of me. How it saw me from that far, I don't know, but it was cool.

    Original Doom

I was wondering something about the original Doom. Seeing how I'm a console player and not much of a pc player (sorry, it's the truth) I've never really played the PC version of the original Doom until they ported it to the Xbox on the Collector's version of Doom 3. Anyways, recently I played through it to beat it again and I found something different (to me anyways). The only version of Doom that I have played that is closest to the PC version is the SNES version of Doom. I know it is not as good as the PC version and it also does not have all the levels but back in the day it was the only way I had to play so this is where I know it best. Anyways, my question is regarding the episodes. On the SNES version, at the end of Episode 1, you die (which I'm sure happens in every version). Then you have to start a totally new game to play Episode 2, back to 1 pistol and your fists. Now, Episode 3 is where the SNES confused me. After you beat Episode 2 on the SNES version, you go directly to Episode 3 with all the guns and health you had when you beat Episode 2. This always confused me, why do you have to start Episode 2 independently but not Episode 3? I had no basis to go on and nothing to compare it to so I was confused but I didn't mind it. You can still start Episode 3 independently but you can also go to it directly after Episode 2. Now, recently, after playing through Doom again on my Xbox, I realized after beating Episode 2, you do not go straight to Episode 3. You have to start a completely new game and you're back to square one. So my question is, is this how it's really supposed to happen? You're supposed to always start a new game for Episode 3? You can't go directly to Episode 3 with all guns and health from Episode 2? It makes a little more sense. If you can't go to Episode 2 from Episode 1, it would only make sense that you couldn't go to Episode 3 from Episode 2. Do you understand what I'm saying? So, in my mind, I've always been under the impression you're supposed to go to Episode 3 directly after beating Episode 2. If you're not supposed to, then why did the SNES version have this feature? It's actually kinda nice and makes it easier.
  6. I'm in the process of playing through Final Doom on the Playstation and I've noticed on this level a lot of weird "secret" areas that won't open. You are given the computer map on this level and there are about 7 or 8 areas I cannot access that stay white and when I exit the level, it says I got 100% of the secrets. It doesn't make sense to me. Also, I heard there was a Cyberdemon on this level but I didn't come across one. I think I have the difficulty on Hurt Me Plenty so maybe you need to have it on UltraViolence for the Cyberdemon to show up, I don't know. Maybe somebody can give me some answers.
  7. I am having a problem getting this secret to even work. This is my first time playing Episode 4 because I have never played Ultimate Doom before so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not. This is what I have read to do: "In the northeast corner of this room is a torch. Walk up to it, but don't touch it yet. Activating this torch will cause the large, brown, rectangular block behind you to sink into the floor, revealing a "NIN" logo. The easiest way to get credit for discovering that Secret is to step onto that block before it sinks all the way into the floor. Otherwise, the raised "NIN" letters that remain will tend to get in the way, making it difficult to touch the top of the block... and if you don't make contact, you don't get credit. Secret 2: Activate that torch and step on the block before it disappears into the floor. (If the block is already lowered, then try stepping on the triangular floor spaces within the "N" characters of the design.)" However, the torch doesn't ever seem to activate. I hit the action button and it does nothing. Did they do something different for this level in the Xbox version? I noticed there is a switch right outside the door up the stairs on the left that seems to do nothing, does it have something to do with it? I also noticed something else kinda strange. If you enter through the red door and shoot a rocket at the goat head on the right, the rocket seems to go through it and explode on something behind it but you can't go through it but the one on the left, the rocket just explodes right on contact. Can anyone explain this?

    PSX Final Doom Nukage Processing

Well, there's this one area oustide in a sort of cove in the wall where you hit a switch and the circular room drops down and there's another switch that will lower it again if you don't go up with the rest of the floor when it goes up. There is absolutely no point to this. And this is one of the areas of the map that shows a room behind the wall with the switches. I also noticed 3 partial invisible pink demons facing the switch (backs to me) which also seems pointless when there's only one way in.

The end of E1M8 - theories

Bringing this topic back to life after almost a year! Anyways, I have one question, how did Deimos get to where is was floating above Hell? It is a moon of Mars, so how did it get from outerspace to Hell? Also, I wonder if anybody has thought of the Doom Bible as an answer to the end of Episode One. If you remember, originally, they planned on having multiple different people you could play as and there's a guy named Dacote (which stands for Dies At Conclusion Of The Episode). Maybe originally, Episode One was going to be his Episode and he was going to die and then Episode Two was going to be started with another person. Maybe they were going this way and were far into it when they decided to just keep it as one person and do the best they could to transit the story line to just one person.

    Original Doom

uh, yeah, I've played Doom many many times. It's just your ideas on how the Doom guy got to Episode 3 are kinda odd.

    Doom books re-issued

The irony of it all is that there isn't even a single Mancubus in that entire book except for pieces of a dead one on the Hawaii base.

Not to be offensive, but have you ever played Doom?

major error in the doom3 collectors edition

Holy crap, I can't believe I didn't even notice. I must not have been paying too much attention to the sky.
  14. I know there aren't any noclip cheats listed but that could just mean they haven't been found or released yet.
  15. Yeah, but this isn't just your typical console version, it's the actual PC game on the xbox with extras thrown in, at least, I'm pretty certain of it. Can anyone verify that for me?
  16. Seeing how this is a port of the PC Doom, is there possibly a way to activate the no clipping code?

    Doom books re-issued

Well, actually, in the third book, the "official" name for the Doom monsters (by the government and scientists, etc.) are actually the names given to them in the games. Also, you'd be surprised how almost accurate the levels in the first novel are to the game.
  18. Thanks for the confirmation Led. Maybe you could figure out why it doesn't work?

    Doom books re-issued

I own all 4 of the books myself and I enjoy them very much, I have read them all many times. As everyone says, the first book is most closely related to the games and, in my opinion, the best of the series. I also think they are well written for the most part. However, I have noticed many spelling and grammatical errors along with displacements. Anyone notice how in the 4th book when they are on ship heading toward the Fred homeworld, they all of a sudden have human weapons again plus military uniforms? They even have their ear pieces where they can "click-click" back and forth to each other when they touched down on the Fred homeworld. The teleporter they went through in book 3 (the one that screwed up Hidalgo and Taggart had to kill him) was based on Gate technology and when they came through, they were naked and weaponless but in the 4th book, they all of a sudden have clothes plus weapons they could never have had in the first place. Any human weapons were left behind on their initial trip through the gate on Phobos. Even so, I enjoyed the books, especially the humor.

    New GERMAN Doom Forum

All one has to do is go to http://www.babelfish.altavista.com/ go down to "Translate Webpage," click under "Select from and to Languages," change it to "German to English," and put in "http://doomgate.de/" ^_^
  23. I remembering hearing about this a while back. From what I remember, I think it was supposed to be on Ultimate Doom but I know it's not. Does anybody remember hearing about this? It's supposed to be harder than the Nightmare difficulty (though I don't see how). It's been such a long time that I first heard about it that I don't really remember much what I heard about it.
  24. So nobody knows? Nobody here has an Xbox? Is there a more populated Doom forum I could ask at where people would know?
