Well, done with finals for my first FULL freshman semester (I've taken college classes before as dual-enrollment and also at camps, but I count this as my first full semester of college). Thank the prophets.

-Now I can sit back and rethink what the Hell I want to do with my life. I think it'll be something creatively oriented, as a deskjob is my idea of a living Hell, and despite my intelligence I feel I lack the patience for scientific work.
-Having few real-life friends and constantly hopping from one online social support network to another sucks. =^( A forum I (once) moderate(d), Arwing Landing, a Star Fox/Nintendo-centered site, is seeing kinda hard times these days, with bad post(ers) and a lack of game-related stuff to talk about. Oh, and yiff-furries. What fracking fun.
-At least now with school out I can finish my levels, as well as the one I said I'd help DLD with.

Uhhhh, more later, as I'm too tired to bitch a whole lot.

  2. Why oh why oh why does my Humanities II teacher make me write TWO 1000-word essays for my main class AND a pair of equally stupid mini-essays for the final exam? =^(

I would blame myself for delaying the former item 'til the last few weeks of class, but this has been such an emotionally irritating first freshman semester that just out of spite and a desire to not feel more like shit than I already do I shall not hold myself guilty for jack squat.

Frackin' lord. Going to college without any idea of what you want to do for a living = complete suck. I WANTED WANTED WANTED so long to be a game designer, but after evaluating the industry and trying my hand at ACS scripting for ZDooM I have learned three things:

    A) Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all equally complete bastards, as well as all of the lesser evils such as Vivendi, the shell of that which was iD, and so on.

    B) Actual scripting, much less coding at the binary level, is far too tedious for me to want to be involved in.

    C) I think if anything I'll stick with being a novelist.

Life's not a bitch. Life's making me ITS bitch.

Understand that qualifications don't matter anymore. People want experience. Who would you employ?

Candidate A: I have a degree and have studied everything about graphics manipulation, advanced mapping and coding. Three years my course was. Here's the peice of paper saying I know it all.

Candidate B: I have created a total of 80 levels myself, released many of them on the internet some of them recieving favourable reviews, 6 of them winning awards. I have taken part in 6 team projects including the famous Manpocalypse Project. I've been modding and editting for 6 years. Heres proof of all of the above. (hands over portofolio including maps, reviews etc)

You wanna chace the dream? Create a portfolio. and practice, practice. Hell, keep the crap work you did to show how you over came your ineptness and turned yourself into a legend!

Novelist, eh? Good choice, one though problem is you aren't going to be an automatic success. This means getting another job in the meantime. I'm not slamming you btw, but working leads to socialising, which means you are introduced to real characters. Seriously, there are some people you just can't make up.

I'd also suggest getting an action packed job, like the army, or the police or firefighter, mainly to get a nice blend of emotions, I mean real fear, real happiness (I mean what could make you happier than knowing you're still alive?). This is one of the reasons I'll be joining soon.

Another thing if you don't already, write down ANY interesting thing that happens to you. Also being a vent for fury or sorrow, you can never recall the moment properly from your own memory. Lastly submit all the work you can, listen to the reviews, act, not the flames obviously. There is always room for improvement.

I too want to be a novelist, and I just wanted to pass on some tips, not thaat I'm successful or anything. I don't follow the above myself but I hope it's helpful in your quest to stab swordsmen in the face with your mighty pen.

EDIT: Oh yea, don't write while tired, it fucks up your spelling and grammar :(

you want to be a writer and you are bitching about a paltry 2000 words?

Yes. It's just that these particular 2000 words are long and tedious and require me to do a shitload of 'padding'. =^(

Mainly because of how long I put them off.

      ...

And so I counteract one of my arguments. =^(

  3. Aight.

I've watched "Aliens" more times than I can remember since I got it from a Wal-Mart earlier this year. Special Edition, DVD, for about $13.

I still haven't (entirely) gotten bored with it.

Yet I cannot arse myself to complete a video game 99% of the time.

    *Zelda: WW spoilers ahead*

Regardless of what kind of gameplay it has, I find I just cannot. I'm not even halfway through Pikmin. I'm still at the Deku Tree in Ocarina of Time (partially because I think that dungeon is rather spooky). I'm right at the point before the Andross boss battle in SFAdv, but I haven't bothered to finish it. I just got to the point in Wind Waker where it is revealed that the pirate lady is Zelda, but haven't bothered to go on. I'm still in the early parts of the Advance Wars campaign.

Why is it that I can never motivate myself to sit through these interactive things, yet I have no trouble watching a noninteractive blastfest like "Aliens"?

    I'll theorize:

    A) "Aliens" has a good amount of plot by action movie standards.
    B) I still say the Smartgun is far cooler than most of the lame gadgetry you get in video games.
    C) Not only do video games tend to lack plot (at least original enough plots to appeal to me), but they also tend to be plagued with bad writing and/or plotholes (Fortunately, a few games rise above the rest, such as Marathon, Paper Mario: TYD, Half-Life, etc.).
    D) "Aliens" actually has character development, at least to some extent.
    E) So Vollywood (my pet name for the game industry) expects me to shell out $50 I likely don't have on me most of the time for the sake of an overglorified exercise in eye-hand coordination with some INNOVATIVE LOL feature built in when I could be getting exercise at the gym. Sorry, but the only games I consider to improve my reflexes or mind are strategy games (GOOD ones, mind you), puzzle games, and games like Quake III.

I'm just convinced that a lot of game designers have too much of a fetish for action and not enough of what I think should matter in an entertainment product.

Whoo. I'm moving a juxtapositioned blue hedgehog around an overly bright environment and having him smack robots to engage in badly dubbed cutscenes. REALLY EFFING ENTERTAINING, YUJI NAKA.

(Note: The above was intended to prod at the general lack of quality in post-Dreamcast Yuji Naka products, not to prod at Sonic the Hedgehog.)

Nah, the first one dragged a little bit too much. The second one had plenty of elements of the first one, but it added so much more.

  4. So. Daily events in the life of me, that guy that posts in some 3-4 threads in a row and then temporarily vanishes like a ninja into the background.

I got a paper done and turned in for Humanities on time with just an hour or so of leeway. A pair of 500 word essays, one about the painting The Madonna of the Long Neck and the other about The Last Supper (not the da Vinci version. This is the one by Tintoretto).

I'm slowly but surely learning that yes, I DO have to stop playing huge sessions of Quake III/Marathon/Doom, get off my arse, and get into this whole college dealie, and learn to like it, too.

I'm sorta stuck in a void now as to what I want to do for a career. I WAS for a while nothing short of obsessed with entering the game industry, but now I'm thinking twice (I sure would like a Revolution devkit, though). Because A) I know quite little about actual programming at the moment, and B) I'd rather bide my time and participate when I actually stand a chance of being recognized for the work of me and whomever I involve in my escapades, rather than being crushed underfoot by all of the brand names you and me are familiar with.

I also need to talk with waaaaay more people in that weird place I keep hearing about called the real world. As opposed to the internet.

Crap. This is starting to get more fit for my LiveJournal, isn't it?

Hmmm...Today was actually fairly normal, unlike all of the rest of you bloggers with wacky lives, wacky usernames, and even wacky fish.

We DID have a weird moment a little in the afternoon with the fire alarm in the student union. One went off right next to me. Deafen me in left ear, it did. Seemed like a false alarm, though.

Bah. I suck. Why can't I lead wild and dangerous lives like the rest of you all?

Yay. First blog. *dons fireman outfit and awaits first flames*

Because you just "want and whine" instead of DOING.

Maybe you'd have fun if you went out and tried to...
