  1. I have not been around for probably 1-3 years (never really paid any attention to the duration) apart from a few postings, did not follow anything that happened in Doom.

From what I can initially tell from glancing:

    • Doom 2016, Doom 1993 is still better though.
    • ZDoom no longer developed.
    • Doomworld Forums potentially going to enter 2017 and leave 2000.
    • Some (who I will keep unnamed, because I am not 100% sure) are/may be transitioning genders, I hope that it brings you happiness.
So what has gone on Doom wise and Doom community wise? And how are things with yous?

Also I have changed my alias from GhostlyDeath to RestlessRodent, I have had my former alias since 2003 (14 years) and I am pretty much a completely different person now.

Yeah GZDoombuilders misleading title has been a subject for debate for a while now. It seems now that its going to be maintained by a new guy, so perhaps a name change is coming. But it has a lot of cool things that are especially useful for vanilla mappers like configuring multiple source ports for testing, subsector viewer and visplane explorer (a visual representation of potential VPO locations on a map)

Vanilla certainly is far from gone. The last two cacowards has some awesome cool vanilla stuff such as erkatanne and nihility infinite teeth, also I worked on a short vanilla episode with valkiriforce called absolute dishonor a few months ago, and tourniquet made a pretty impressive vanilla map recently called altitude. People still play chocolate Doom and use chocorenderlimits. But interest in more DTWiD type classic stuff seems kinda low compared to more artsy abstract stuff with super hard gameplay, which generally favors limit removal and boom generalized linedef types.

Again my interpretation might be fuzzy, and someone else might disagree depending on what projects they're focused on. The community is still relatively healthy for the most part. That's just what ive observed in the last couple years.

Btw your old custom title was better (not that I thought you were a retard or anything, I always thought you were a cool dude, it just made me laugh whenever I read it. I hope someone else will carry the "Forum Retard" torch.)

Regarding big vanilla projects, there's still TNT2: Devilution, TNT: Revilution, and Back to Saturn X E3 to look forward to! Maybe all three will be released this year, who knows :o

Sounds pretty useful. I have not mapped in years, never really practiced making maps much so they were not that great.

Two TNT megaWADs sounds cool and BTSX 1 and 2 are pretty awesome having played a little bit of them. BTSX 3 will also be awesome.

Just seems that there are so many awesome maps that you cannot play them all, especially when busy much.

Thanks I appreciate it. You are pretty cool also, quite a number of people in the community are.

Personally, I do not believe anyone should have to carry such a torch.
