O__o deathz0r liked it? I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I'm not going to argue. ;) Thanks.

ROFL That's the first thing I thought too, but I get his point. =D There was a map by someone on the ZDoom forums, based off the Aliens TC, that only had one alien, a huge base, and most of the sectors completely bright. I think it was Enjay. However, even though I could see nearly the entire map at all times, that bugger scared the hell out of me, and having to finally go into a slightly darker area (where I found the alien) nearly made me piss myself. It's not about total darkness, it's about contrast and atmosphere. Again, check out the screenshots in the thread I linked. Some of them look fscking awesome.

Regarding "White Light" and the Brightness Challenge: Here's a link to the thread, BTW. http://forum.zdoom.org/potato.php?t=9584&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I started this challenge on the ZDoom forums last month, because I was sick of every single WAD out there that had every sector set to 80 brightness, simply to make it harder. I don't like being scared by darkness, or having health hidden in shadows to make the gameplay more "interesting" So, I mandated that every WAD submitted had to have brightness levels above 160. Obvioulsy, Phobus took this to a little bit of an extreme, but his idea was the essence of the contest: Don't make the player struggle to see what's going on! Look at some of the screenshots in the ZDoom forums thread; The point of this is to create levels that can frighten, entertain, or simply make people go "wow" without using darkness to cover it up. Shouldn't this, by default, produce more interesting levels because there isn't a crutch? Yes, at first White Light is a little confusing, but I'm a mediocre Doom player, and I figured it out in a couple minutes with no help. And the monster is not invincible. You can take it down in about 45 seconds with a plasma rifle, if just doesn't have a pain state. From your wording I figure you only played this wad for about two minutes, which is not nearly enough time. So, people, give White Light and the other soon-to-come Brightness Levels a chance. It's different, but that's what inovation is about! You may find you enjoy them.

Deathz0r: I don't care that it was late. I care that you didn't even bother to test it, and review the WAD on it's merits. Instead, you classified it based soley on my mistake with the txt file, and technical problems with the ZIP. And as WW said, refusing to even link it was just childish. I think, just from the couple of /newstuffs that I've seen you do, your reputation as an "asshole reviewer" does not come from being harsh or honest. It comes from being so influenced by other things that you don't even give anything a chance. Like Newstuff #260, IIRC: "Totally Sucks" and "Too Linear". That doesn't help the readers or the author at all. Niether does slamming a WAD simply because the TXT had a screw-up and the ZIP refused to compress properly. This /newstuff was okay; you did a pretty good job on reviewing most of the WADs here, and gave them a fair rep. You can be a good reviewer. Yet that's what's pissing me off the most: Out of all the stuff in here, why was mine made out to be "teh eevil!!11one" because of an issue not even related to the content of the WAD? It's extremely slanted compared to everything else here, and makes me wonder if you have something aganst me.

I'm going to do it right now, as a matter of fact. EDIT: Done and done, waiting for update from archive maintainer. Happy?

As a matter of fact, yes. My point being that nearly every other WAD in existence, including many with copyrighted content, still contain this notice, in exactly the same form. Most of us simply look at that and think it means whether or not we want people to be using the items in question for their own stuff, after we've done work on them. In my case, I worked extremely hard on ripping, organizing, editing, fintuning, and programming this pistol, and I didn't want it to be used in any other WADs until the entire project was properly done. And, like 90% of the Dooming community, I simply took that paragraph to mean "I don't want you using this". Yes, I was careless. However, deathz0r's the moron because he refused to see it as the simple mistake, and review the actual content for what it was. That's why he's a prick, in my eyes. I will gladly edit the TXT file in a heartbeat. I have no problems there. I DO have problems with people who make a mountain out of a molehill, though. And not only that, he's a complete jerk about it. Had deathz0r said "You might want to think about fixing this because of (blah blah blah). I'm not going to review it now because it violates the copyright act," that would have been fine. I'm not disputing my mistake. I'm angry about not getting my WAD reviewed because deathz0r happened to be in the rotation this week. Thank you very much for your time.

So I used the template TXT file that was provided. Try and tell me that this isn't the case with every other weapon rip out there. And the subdirs problem is the fault of my zipping utility. I tried to fix it, but couldn't. Get off your high-horse and STFU, moron.

The main thing I was not looking forward to was the fact that it was Disney, and like NJ said, it's PG. However, since it's gotten a favorable review from most everybody here, I think it's work a look-see. Thanks for giving me hope when it comes to that bloated monster that used to make good movies.

Actually, Germany had a good idea for handling Death Row prisoners back in the 70's, I think. They'd give people waiting for execution the option of dying, or being human crash test drivers. They'd stick you in a car, tell you to crash it into a wall or more cars, whatever, and use the data just like a dummy. Prisoners who survived a certain amount of wrecks were pardoned, those who died, died. Great idea, methinks.

Well, I apologize again for flaming you, Scuba. I agree with your restatement totally, though. My girlfriend's mom refuses to call herself a Christian because of that simple reason; Christians by and large don't follow Christ. That's the problem with most religion: It's only followed when it's convenient.

Well, I was considering that too, but I didn't detect very much sarcasm in the post. I apologize if I made that mistake, but if sarcasm was intended, it wasn't clear enough.

You know, it's interesting what I've heard about the whole heaven/hell thing in my experience. This kinda goes with my last post in this thread. Wherever you go, you'll be happy. I know it sounds wierd, but it makes sense. I believe that about 90% of the people will go to heaven, and only the really bad ones will go to "hell". But, whereever you go, you'll be content with it. To recap, my religion believes heaven has three "layers" or kingdoms. The best go to the top, the mostly bad ones go to the bottom. Only a very few end up in the worst place. But, wherever you end up is what you really wanted (the Godlike ones end up with God, the people who cared about themselves go to a place where they can keep caring about themselves, etc.) This idea gives me a sense of hopefulness, because whatever I end up with, it'll be what I want. Of course, I'd like to be as good as possible :) More useless info you didn't want to know, Courtesy of Caligari_87 ;)

I'm surprised no one talked about this one. I say complete and utter BULLSHIT. Any Christian who does anything like that is not a Christian in my eyes. Only messed-up extremeists and racists think that way, and generalizing the entire group because of the actions of a few misguided individuals only serves to piss people off more. This is exactly the same thing that so many people are saying about Muslims, and I can't stand it. Just because bin Ladin kills a bunch of people in the name of Allah, doesn't make Islam a violent religion. Just because some sick-minded Christian goes and shoots up an abortion office in the name of Jesus doesn't make the rest of us into scumbags. Get it straight, dumbass. You're just as bad as the people you're putting down.

This is sort of related to my post in the "Death" thread, but here goes. I think the death penalty is an effective form of deterrient for crime, because most people are afraid of death, and thus are less likely to commit a death penalty crime like murder. Those who arn't afraid of death (usually for religious or philosophical reasons) tend to have some sort of built-in barrier to commiting crime anyway. So as a scare tactic (you kill, you are killed), I think it works. As an actual form of punishment, it kinda falls short because it doesn't really make the killer care about what he's done. In that case, I think solitary confinement would be the best idea. Most prisons today allow prisoners to leave their cells occasionally, eat decent meals, use the gym, wander the grounds, etc etc etc. What kind of punishment is that? Some people have such bad lives that they commit crimes just to stay in prison, where they know they can live comfortably, if a little restricted. For minor crooks, this is probably mostly okay, but for hardcore rapists, murderers, child molestors, and other such scum, I recommend this (it'd be cheaper, too). Be confined to a single small cell, just big enough to walk maybe a stride in each direction. A cot, and a toilet. Barred window if you're lucky. Head shaved, a simple prison jumpsuit. Enough food/water to keep you relatively healthy, maybe once or twice a day. No human contact at all, besides the window in your door where food comes in. Maybe one phone call every few years, occasional letters. Guards don't speak to you. Minimal medical care. For the entire length of your sentence, perhaps life. That would be Hell on Earth. No person in their right mind would subject themselves to that kind of torture.

I'm Christian (Mormon, actually) and I've always believed in the idea of an afterlife. (background: for Mormons, after you die, you go to either spirit paradise or spirit prison, depending on how you lived. Niether place is exceptionally bad or good, and I've heard it postulated that the spirt world is pretty close to what Earth is like, just that you don't have a body. When the earth ends, judgement day comes, and you're sent to one of the three levels of heaven, or to hell. Simple version. If you didn't want to hear that, sorry, just background info) I'm not really afraid of death itself, because of my beliefs. What I'm really afraid of is leaving this world with my life unfinished, and how I end up leaving. It's not death that scares me, but pain. Personally, I can't imagine no life after death. If I try to think about everything just ending, I get a headache. If that was my belief, I'd be scared of death too. Anyways, if this is more than you wanted to know, sorry, but I've rambled long enough now.
