    New Nintendo Controller Revealed

B for shooting, A for jumping. No lock-on needed, will aim with pointer. Analogue attachment for walking (no trigger needed for strafing either since you're now basically working with a dual analogue setup). The directional pad can be used for weapons or visors. Remember that the analogue thingie has two Z buttons also. Personally I'd use one for scanning, and the other as a modifier for the D-pad to select either weapons or visors. Then there's the other buttons on the pointer (seems like a good name for it) that arent fit for action buttons the way you'd be holding it, but can serve as pause/menu buttons. Don't see why not. And I think it'd be realistic to say Nintendo is going to want this big title to showcase their controller, so I'd count on it.

    New Nintendo Controller Revealed

What made you conclude that? If anything, right now I'd say all the signs port towards the nunchuck attachment and the controller shell coming standard with every controller. And a lot of people are excited because they know that no matter how it turns out, we're going to see at least a number of awesome games utilising the technology coming from Nintendo, as always, even if third parties ignore the thing and simply go for the standard configuration (which is not likely seeing as how developers are all drooling over it).

Doom Comic - A Dramatic Rendition

Hahaha, beautiful, just beautiful. Just one thing though, I was thinking how much more badass it would've sounded if the voice had been done by someone a bit...older? Or maybe he actually is around his 30's and that's just how his voice sounds, I wouldn't know....either way, it sounded a bit like a teen to me. A minor nitpick on a fantastic overall performance though. Hurrah! The most amusing piece of audio I've heard all week.

D3 vs HL2 arguments are funny because the games are like an apple and an orange. If you know what I mean.

    New Nintendo Controller Revealed

If you're worried about battery power then I guess you're out of luck since all consoles now use wireless controllers. It's not much of a concern though, considering the Wavebird received only good reviews. Of course I hope (as everybody hopes, probably) that all consoles will offer a built-in rechargable battery. It's already been suggested that the Revolution's controllers may simply be charged through the Gamecube controller ports. Like those wireless mice that have a recharging stand next to your PC.

    New Nintendo Controller Revealed

One: I think I'm only pointing out the obvious, but you don't want to discuss it further apparently, that's perfectly fine. Are you even proofreading your own posts though? Because you're pretty much dissing Nintendo for all it's worth. Two: From your comment I get the feeling you don't even know that MS has ONLY made a loss on the Xbox so far? Yes, it is doing well, going neck-and-neck with the Cube (even overtaking it in total worldwide market share) but they have made NO money from it, it's only doing well because they threw such large amounts of cash at it. Every single Xbox is, and has since the beginning been sold at a loss. I don't know the exact numbers but they've lost about 3.5 billion (and that includes software sales). Yes. You think I'm making this up, but I'm not, go google it or something. MS even admit it themselves, this was a "practice round". This time they could get away with it, and I'm sure their pockets won't be dented even if the Xbox 360 loses money, but the investors won't be happy. It's considered bad business to keep operating a devision at a loss, so they have to get it right this time. It's the same story with Sony BTW, only to a lesser extent. It's because Sony and MS are simply much, much bigger companies than Nintendo, seeing as how they're involved with more than just games. Both their gaming devisions are just that, relatively small devisions, and they've got that infinitely bigger company to back it up. It's not a fair fight towards Nintendo, really. Nintendo are just Nintendo, their "gaming devision" is their entire company. Yet Nintendo are the only one of the three who keep making a profit. They're just very small. I'll repeat once more, I'm not making it up.

    New Nintendo Controller Revealed

That would have made sense only for the fact that they have never had to rely on their fortune to make their console survive, unlike Microsoft. Whoops! They didn't survive on their bank account, like that one company did. They survived on good games. Yeah, out of TEN freaking consoles released (versus ONE on Microsoft's side, and THREE on Sony's), one flopped, and guess why, it's because they were trying a new idea, imagine that, jeez! You're right, the Virtual Boy is proof that you should never try anything new because you're taking risks, it might not work! The eighties. Can you spell it? Besides, don't just shrug off the Powerglove like that when you don't know anything about it. Use some google for the full story. Like what, Rob the Robot? You're putting them down for some optional peripherals that they experimented with years before Sony and MS ever came to market? That's ridicilous. Besides that, I don't know what you mean? The NES arcade stick? The infrared NES controllers? The SNES mouse? Light guns? (Also, Rob is awesome. *cough*) Actually, I cringed to go back to the PS1's load times after using my N64, paired with the fact that the N64 had correct texture perspective calculation, non-wobbly polygons, bilinear filtering, basic Z-buffering and anti-aliasing, made it different, and suitable for some game types that the PS1 wasn't. They each had their own strengths. People just flocked to the PS1 because of shiney FMV (and when a lot of people develop games for a system, there's bound to be good stuff). You can try to deny it, and I'm sure you will, but it's just blindingly obvious from the fact that all the TV adverts you ever saw from PS1 games were FMV, and that most games took up only a few MB, the rest of the disk space reserved for FMV and audio tracks (not even that though, a lot of PS1 music is simply generated, and about the same size as that of N64 games - proof being the music in PSF and USF format that you can download). FF7 takes up three disks. That's three. The last disk is pretty much only the last dungeon and the boss fight. Pretty weird when you remember the entire game except for the FMV has one complete copy on each disk (just try swapping disks midgame - it works perfectly, even when loading new areas and dialogue....until you get to an FMV bit). They left Nintendo for the very same reason that mere PC game demos these days can take up gigs of HD space. Bloat. Squaresoft said it themselves: they didn't care about load times, they just wanted to put a whole lot of FMV in the game, and they couldn't do that with the N64 (so much for gameplay. Oh well!). Seems like everybody who doesn't like the new controller also doesn't like the DS. Well, I guess that doesn't matter, as long as the Revolution sells as well as the DS does, then nobody could care less about your type. You obviously don't have much of an influence on sales numbers. Yeah, I'll say it again, god forbid anybody try anything new, cause an uproar. I don't know what your point is here. You're basically saying that different is bad just for being controversial. Imagine where the world would be right now if everybody always thought like you did? No, the bottom line is that although the controller has sparked a broad spectrum of opinions (as opposed to everybody going "*shrug*" with Sony and MS' controllers) it's clear that the scale strongly tips in Nintendo's favour (especially among developers). What crawled up my ass? Your attitude. You could've just stated your reasoning for disliking the controller's design, but instead you go on to make some bullshit statements about the company's past. You say you're not biased but you obviously are.

    New Nintendo Controller Revealed

LOLZ yeah like the D-pad, L and R buttons, the SNES diamond button layout, the analogue stick, the rumble pack, 4 controller ports, first party wireless controllers....what a total load of SHIT! The worst thing is, Sony and Microsoft are now using every single one of those things! Can you imagine that? I HATE NINTENDO! By the way, I'd recommend that people check out this video, if you haven't already: http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334/vids_1.html Regardless of your opinion on the controller, it's pretty fun to watch. If you think this will do badly because it's different, all I can say is you try to remember what people used to say about the DS, and then look at the sales figures.

    Doom 64 secret messages?

The citadel isn't a real level, it's a remnant of a 3D model of a vague draft of a level. You can only find it through a rather large amount of hacking. You can't play it, because it's just left over junk, it wasn't meant to be played. There's no detailing, it looks like shit, there's glitches all over. It's not a secret, it's a scrap. Of course they wouldn't talk about it because it's doubtful that anybody except the programmer who forgot to delete it actually knew about it! If you really want to use a legitimate secret in a Rare game as an example, you could mention Goldeneye's button sequence activated cheat codes that Rare didn't reveal until years later. Or the ice key in Banjo-Kazooie.

Many cases against religion and superstition

I guess that depends on your definition of it, but as far as I've seen "karma" mostly has to do with things like "fate" or "destiny". What you're saying is simply "nobody likes an asshole", which sounds logical but is not even true all the time, there are people who are total dicks and still get all the women.

Except karma is yet another one of those things that people pull out of their ass and then somehow start believing in it. If karma was something real, wouldn't the world be a lot more "fair"? I wish.

    Error - can't play WAD

I've always wondered if inserting Doom1 textures into your wad would be considered redundant because people could load up the Doom1 wad itself and not have to download extra stuff. I guess it isn't.
  19. Nikanoru

    Error - can't play WAD

I've noticed that in Zdoom, you can load the Doom1 wad together with your own wad and it'll fill in the missing textures. I haven't been able to get it to work with Doom2.exe or anything like that though.

Actually, I quite like my analogy, thank you. :p I already explained in detail what the similarities are, if you read them. Sure, it's an exaggeration, but that's of course intentional.

You're perfectly capable of hearing without your outer ears. That was my point. Off they go! Then why not cut it off? Well now, I was actually talking about pro-circumcision among people in general, but if you want to feel personally offended then that's your problem.

Many cases against religion and superstition

Saying that one has more severe consequences than the other does not dull the fact that the concept is the same. Both are retractable pieces of skin made to protect and keep in good condition a soft and vulnerable round organ. Hell, people even call the glans an "eye" sometimes. Both serve a function, even if one is more crucial than the other. Your comparison: would you cut off your pinky toe for the sole reason that it's just not as bad as losing an arm? I mean hell....it's only in the way. Stupid little thing. I'll bring up another comparison that you might approve of more: your inner ear will work fine, if somewhat less effective, when your outer ear is removed. That thing really doesn't serve much of a purpose. Dirt builds up in your outer ear if you don't wash it. So it's only a bother. Hey, now it sounds like a pretty good idea to cut it off. Let's! Sounds dumb doesn't it? Well. The bottom line is simply that unless you don't wash for like months at a time, there is no reason to remove this organ. If you're in favour of circumcision then you're either a) completely retarded or b) defending it for some other reason like you've been taught it all your life, or you just want to defend "your own kind", or maybe your religion dictates it (hey, but if that's the case, why not just say so instead of talking bullshit about the advantages? At least you'll be respected), or last, maybe you like the look of it (and again, if you just say so you'll hear no word from me. People mutilate themselves far worse than that for decoration all the time). And option b is....not uncommon. And that's the end of it. Some things can be debated. This cannot. Oh. And there is NO justification, ever, for doing it to a child.

I'm sorry to say this but, cutting off the foreskin is as retarded as cutting of one's eyelids. There is a reason you have your bodyparts. (Yes I know I said that was my last post, but this is a bit of a different subject. ;p )

Many cases against religion and superstition

I think Myk is approaching this from a completely different angle than I. You seem a bit like a certain family member of mine, actually. Like I said, there are of course many ways to view religion, and many forms of it. But I'm assuming this topic was about the sort of religion that intends to tread into the realms of science, to alter cold hard facts to its preference. Which, to be honest, is just as ridicilous as science trying to map the levels of hell. Yes, it's true that our perception of reality alters it by default, but 1+1 will always equal 2. The earth was flat, the center of the universe, the sun was God (well, it was in egypt) and mankind was created as it is today, from a handfull of dirt. Until someone looked at the facts and thought about them. How many times can you say that this has happened the other way around? When has a scientific concept made way for a religious one? I don't think there are any such instances, scientific concepts only get bettered by other scientific concepts. I'll say again, I'm not denying the religious influence in everyday human interactions. But there are such things as delusions, and people who perpetuate them for their own gain, out of stubbornness, pride, weakness, ignorance, or maybe simply a desire for control. Let me ask you a question: if you had a problem that could be solved in a scientific or a religious way, and you had to bet on which one would come up with the proper solution....with your life. They'd slice your noggin clean off if you bet wrong. And your dog's. Honestly, which would you choose? Heh, I've read a bit of that website. Seems innocent at first sight, get rid of your inner demons? Why not. Then later I read something about highschool students being able to get actual witchcraft powers through D&D. Can you imagine a parent storming into the basement and ruining their son's session, thinking he'll use mind control to acquire their creditcard? Pretty hilarious. Actually, that's not funny at all. :( At least they're not burning Harry Potter books. Well....not as far as I've seen. That's a quote that's made every time any sort of debate happens. It's a quote for lazy people, by lazy people. :P Haha, actually I've seen documentaries with people who seem to say just that. They feel like they've been mutilated when they were a child outside of their will. And they've found all sorts of....ways to try and re-stretch the skin that was lost. It was....interesting. Speaking of lazy, I've had this debate many times and I think I'll make this my last post in this thread. I've said everything I'd want to say and I don't want to get RSI. :>

Many cases against religion and superstition

Depends. I'm stating a fact, that many forms of religion are just that, grabbing stuff out of thin air and then governing one's own life and that of others with it. Make of that what you will. I'm not sure you're really reading this right, maybe I was just too vague, but I wasn't talking about the concept of religion but its qualms. Ignorance is one thing, however being fully aware of one's own inability to grasp the full reality of things, yet pretending to know the facts and use this so called knowledge to solve real-world problems and influence others just makes no sense, logically. Then again, the same goes for a lot of things that humans do. Like war. But we're learning. Hold on just one second there. Filling in the blanks with deities whose existence is inherently unprovable is just that, wouldn't you say? I don't know what you're saying here. Are you implying that a natural phenomenon like the revolvement of a physical body causing its displacement, which is undeniably factual, being observed, documented and put to use in the "wheel" is actually the same thing as saying "hey, when I die I know I'm going to go to hell/heaven even though nobody has ever lived to tell me about it"? Nobody made up the fusion bomb, that shit was present in the sun long before people discovered it. I don't know if I should explain to you the difference between letting one's views be formed by reality, or forming reality according to one's views. You seem smart enough to grasp it. That's what science is, if there's nothing to know, it will know nothing. It will, however, never abandon the possibility of someday knowing. Religion seems to make this distinction arbitrarily. What there is to know seems to have absolutely no bearing on what it chooses to know or not know. Nope, I can't actually do anything with religion, you're right there. I'll bring up the Tooth Fairy again. If somebody told me she was the forefather of all things this would baffle me. It does make for a nice bedtime story though. Again, I'm not sure what you're on about. All that sounds like you're probably looking at just one definition of it. Religion takes all kinds of forms. But I assume this thread is all about the kind of religion that seeks to create a reality of its own, replacing the one that is observed by means of rational thought. Aaaaand I hope you're not calling me a fool. You want to fisticuffs? Hmm? *punches air*
