This Just In, Doom Movie Is Terrible

I disagree. I think the first 2 games would transfer better as a TV mini-series on HBO or Showtime. And Doom 3? Well, it's already kind of a movie itself with all of the cinema sequences and story elements etc. Regardless, I'm still going to see this myself no matter what the scathing "reviews" say. It's Doom, it's a movie, and I personally think it's more fun having some differences from the game than just seeing the exact same thing knowing what to expect.

885 greatest albums of all time

Depeche Mode's "Violator" better be within the top 100. I guess I'll go check out that list right now.

Do you ever play on Nightmare?

Grazza: To be honest, I don't take the Nightmare diffculty level that seriously anyway. It's just somewhat of an added feature not meant to be played through all the way.

Do you ever play on Nightmare?

I've only gotten as far as E1M3 on Nightmare mode, and that's after playing through the first 2 levels consecutively :(

    the doom movie

Where exactly are you seeing this footage with the creatures in it? I tried looking at photos, and they're all just ones we've seen already, and I didn't see any creatures in them. And now something for everyone else; after taking a look at the website (ALL sections of it) if you still don't think the settings look right out of Doom 3, you're obviiously drunk, stoned, retarded, whatever.

    Quake series

    1) Raven made Quake 4, not id 2) Quake 4 is the first (and only) game in the series that's an actual sequel, in case you've forgotten. I can't wait for later this month, baby! Which version is everyone getting? I'm having a hard time deciding between the regular release or the special edition with Quake 2 and its mission packs since it would be nice getting everything in one package, but I can still find the stand-alone versions of all the previous games easily...

    doom movie book

I just thought of something (back on topic): Anybody who thinks that reading this book will excuse you from having to see the movie needs a reality check. It's a known fact that many book versions of movies have a few scenes and events that don't appear in the movie at all. In some rare cases the book can be almost completely different (e.g. Alan Dean Foster's novel of the 1982 version of "The Thing", which was based off an earlier screenplay and not the one shown in theaters). And no, I wasn't joking about my last comment. Whoever thought I was needs a crash course in Fact vs. Opinion. No offense to anybody, that is.

For starters, what was there to complain about that movie?

Music that sounds like it belongs in Doom

Please tell me you're kidding. Bobby Prince himself said that "metal" would be terrible for Doom. Why is it that when people think of the game, they think it's synonymous with death metal?

    How do you unwind?

Your trailer must be awful stuffy :P JK. Anyway, I'm more of an outdoors guy myself. I tend to be in my deepest thought when I'm at one with mother nature. I really can't explain it right now though since I'm in the middle of the city at the library :D

    Doom Movie Questions

Putting the humor aside: I mean, seriously, look what happened to such movie "franchises" such as Ghostbusters, Conan, Robocop, etc.

    Doom Movie Questions

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, what worries me isn't the quality of the movie itself, but rather what will happen to Doom afterwards since they're considering making a franchise out of it. I just hope it doesn't follow a similar fate that many somewhat edgy movies have become: saturday morning cartoon series'.

    Some Movie Set Visits

Apparently the guy writing the article has never heard of the first Mortal Kombat movie. Not exactly an Oscar winner, I know, but it wasn't horrible and it actually followed the game mostly. Now the second one on the other hand...

    Horrible Doom Movie Poster Revealed

Where is this third poster that you speak of? If you meant what I posted, that wasn't a poster but the cover for the novel version of the movie that's being released in a few days. I'll try searching again.

    Doom Movie Questions

You know, now that you mention it, for the longest time I always thought Demi Moore was going to play Arlene when there were plans to make a movie out of the first novel. I also thought Lori Petty would've made a good one too since she's younger, I think (anybody who's seen In The Army Now knows what I mean).

    Doom Movie Questions

Since it's based on Doom 3 and not the original Doom (or the novels for that matter), no, it's not Arlene. I think maybe you're thinking of Sam Grimm, the lead guy's sister, and she's played by Rosamund Pike.

    Horrible Doom Movie Poster Revealed

Relax about the first one guys. It's just a promo/teaser poster since it doesn't have the film credits at the bottom. Movie companies always do this; they release a "bare bones" promo poster to get you wondering about what it will be like, and then there's the release poster with a more decisive look to it and film credits at the bottom, which is what's posted somewhere in the theater when it's released. The second poster shown is what I'm talking about in that respect. Although that's an out of the USA poster, I have a feeling a modified version of this book cover will be used for the US release poster (by "modified" I mean only the caption at the top will be changed and the text at the bottom will be replaced with the film credits). Not very exciting, I know, but it's something.

    Doom Movie Questions

Christ almighty, dude! Lighten up. That's the whole point of trailers and teasers, to only scratch the surface of what the movie's all about. To answer the questions: 1. I think the footage is OK from what I've seen. Visually it looks pretty cool, of course I'm a stickler for tech-sci-fi anyway. I'm a Star Trek and Star Wars fan after all. 2. Regardless of how close it'll stick to the game, I have a feeling I'm going to love it for the sheer fact that it IS going to be nothing more than an action-packed shoot-fest. You can't live on fine art alone ;) 3. I do think the FPS sequences are pretty neat, and you can't knock the film makers for at least making it an original sequence and not something lifted from the game just for the sake of putting it in there to justify saying it's a movie based on the game (like what they did in House of the Dead, ugh!).

    Guns are like tools

Let's see: Fists: If I'm not berserk, I only use it as a last, and I mean LAST, resort. Even when I'm berserk I only use it on Demons since they're the only monster that has to be right next to you for them to attack, and they're slow to do that. Chainsaw: If I'm low on shotgun shells I always use it on Demons for the same reason I sated above and maybe on Former Humans, Sergeants, and Imps since they're fairly easy to kill. I even use it for opening secret doors that need to be shot so I don't wast ammo, and maybe for getting the attention of monsters from far away so that I don't get myself in a cul de sac. Pistol: I usually use this on Former Humans even when I've already gotten other higher weapons. Shotgun: Sergeants and Imps are the main fodder for this in close combat since it only takes one shell to kill them. As other people have said on here I also use it for sniping since it's more accurate than the Super Shotgun. Super Shotgun: My main weapon of choice when playing Doom 2. It kills Commandos, Demons, and Lost Souls in one shot and Cacodemons in 3 shots. I think it's better to use the SSG in Doom 2 on Cacos than the Plasma Rifle since you always fire a bit more than you need with the Plasma Rifle, thus wasting ammo. The SSG's also good to clear out small groups of lesser monsters e.g. the group of Imps near the end of Map03. It's also a good fallback weapon when you run out of rockets, especially in close quarters. Basically speaking in packs a wallop in a hurry. Chaingun: Again as others have said already this is a good rapid-fire sniping weapon from a distance since the bullets make contact quicker than plasma cells. It's also great for clearing away groups of lesser enemies up to Imps in close combat. You won't be wasting more powerful ammo on monsters that don't need that much to be killed. I also use it on Cacodemons when I either haven't obtained a SSG or Plasma Rifle yet or when I run out of plasma cells in Doom 1. But beyond that it doesn't help much. Rocket Launcher: For killing Barons of Hell, Mancubuses, and Arachnotrons, making sure I'm far enough away of course. Occassionally I'll pick off a few Revenants, Hell Knights, and Cacodemons with it if I need to kill them in a hurry or if I'm low on shells and far enough away from them. As an alternative I'll use it on Arch-Viles if I don't kill one with a single BFG blast or if I'm low on cells. Plasma Rifle: In Doom 1 this is the weapon I use most on Cacodemons. It's best of course for clearing away small groups of bigger enemies or medium-sized groups of lesser enemies. In Doom 2 the main fodder of this gun is the Pain Elemental since it's both high-powered and the rapid fire keeps it from spitting out too many Lost Souls. BFG: I use this to kill Arch-Viles in one shot, on Spider Masterminds and Cyberdemons, and to clear away large groups of both lesser and stronger monsters. Hands down.

    Vanilla Sky

While the detail is awesome the difficulty leaves much to be desired. Putting an armor vest well outside the start area after you've been whittled down to 30% health & a Baron with lots of rockets near it yet no rocket launcher as far as the eye can see is just plain stupid. I may give it one more play but for now I feel this is nothing more than catering to the "lotz o monsturz YEAH" fanboy crowd. 2/5
